Following on from the news that Batwoman will be getting her own series, we have some new details on the character, what The CW is looking for in an actress to play her, and when we can expect to see her debut.

Firstly, TV Line has heard that an out lesbian actress of open ethnicity age 25 to 29 is being sought for the role - although neither The CW or Warner Bros. has confirmed this.

Next, That Hashtag Show has come across a detailed character breakdown, which will give fans a much better idea of what to expect from this small-screen take on Kate Kane:

"Kate is fully aware of how bad-ass she is whenever she enters a room, even though she prefers to put a smile on your face. Young Ms. Kane is physically and intellectually confident while being a woman who is proud to be openly gay. However, Kate still deals with her inner demons that go back to her history with her dad. Their relationship is quite complicated as she struggles to get praise from him. She once aspired to have a successful military career, but those dreams sadly came to an end as she was kicked out of West Point once she came out of the closet. But that didn’t stop her from becoming the crime-fighting vigilante known as Batwoman.

Striking fear into the criminals she fights, Kate is someone who must also fight the complications of living a double life, both as a citizen and hero of Gotham. While she has her shield up when fighting criminals, she lets herself be vulnerable when dating women."

The site has also revealed that Kane will appear in the ninth episodes of Supergirl, Arrow, and The Flash during the big crossover event. For unknown reasons, Legends of Tomorrow is being excluded from this year's crossover, which is set to air in December.

The Batwoman spin-off will be written by Caroline Dries, who is also executive producing alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Geoff Johns.

Off topic, but new Shazam image. Whoever thought this ridiculous amount of padding was a good idea should be fired.

@RageDriver2401 - well, they are going for that cheesy campy cartoony look.

@RageDriver2401 - I love the suit but they did go a bit overboard with the padding.

That sounds great to me.

But no Constantine in the crossover? Boo! That sucks.

How many female Bats are there? I was only familiar with Barbara/Batgirl. So there's her, Kate and Cassandra? Jeez. Anyway, Kate sounds the most CW-ready. Let's hope her character doesn't come off as out of place or someone written for Riverview. I'm glad these shows have fans but I can't take them seriously for more than few minutes at a time. The CW is just really bad at drama, it feels like a stage play or like old episodes of Days of Our Lives. Way too corny. There's a way to do these types of modern, socially relevant characters without the writing making the performances so on-the-nose and campy. I watched Flash for like 2 seasons but everything else was pretty cringey.

@sixthsense - Sure, it's just not good drama. It feels cheap and laughable at times.

Where is Batman? Will he be a hero of yesteryear who inspires the young people of Gotham?

@Repian - They likely are gonna restrict them from using Bruce just like they dod with Clark (despite no development on their sequels or solos) but those characters like David Zavimbe/Luke Fox and Harper Row would make for great supporting characters while also extending the Bat Family.

Say what you will about Marvel Netflix, but I think they nailed doing interesting character work with females through Jessica Jones. So many other shows, CW included, get the broad strokes but then almost turn it into parody the way women are portrayed. Mixing blind cockiness and panicked vulnerability seems pretty chaotic and I find often these female characters just aren't believable and are either overly-confident smug geniuses or anxious wrecks depending on an epidsode. Jessica Jones at least has a consistent feel to her and feels honest through the writing. Idk, it's hard to put into words that feeling you get when you think you're watching a real person rather than a written stereotype. I feel like this character description for Batwoman is written out in the CW offices for all of their female characters, minus the specific lesbian stuff.

Well, I don't really like the Cw shows but I always try to watch the first 3 Episodes. I will give this a chance.

Why is Legends of Tomorrow being excluded? Its better than two of the other shows that are INCLUDED!?! Hope this doesn't mean that the Legends won't appear in the three crossover episodes.

@HeavyMetal4Life - Maybe Legends being privy to time-travel is too OP this time around.
