Wow! Awesome first clip from The Dark Knight Rises that features John Blake (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) questioning Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman) about the last known sighting of Batman.

Oscar-nominated actor Gary Oldman was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel's talk show this evening and he brought along a dialogue scene. The clip features a older and worn down Commissioner Gordon chatting with young idealistic police officer John Blake, played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Gordon: What's your name son?
Blake: Blake sir
Gordon: you have something you want to ask me officer Blake?
Blake: It's about that night, this night, 8 years ago when Dent died, the last confirmed sighting of The Batman. He murders those people, takes down two SWAT teams, kills Dent and then he just....vanishes?
Gordon: I'm not hearing a question son..
Blake: Don't you want to know who he was?
Gordon: I know who he was. (shot focuses on the busted signal) He was the Batman

The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters July 20th 2012 and stars Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth, Gary Oldman as Jim Gordon, Tom Hardy as Bane, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake and Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate.

Short, sweet, and to the point. Oldman is playing the "8-years later" thing SO near-perfect. What an actor.

Did anyone else catch what happened before the break? Gary was reading R. Kelly's book with a cowboy hat.And Kimmel said TDKR is the highlight of the year so far for him and Gary gave mad props to Anne.

@Antonio
Gary Oldman has played Gordon different ways in each of the movies. The way he plays him in BB is so diff than in TDK in the way he talks and carry himself. He is such an incredible actor.

Seriously think how hard this movie must be from Gordons perspective. Batman saved his family. Batman brought the city back from corruption but only Gordon knows what a hero he was. He has to act like he hates Batman but deep down inside he has nothing but admiration for him. Any less of an actor wouldn't be able to pull that kind of range off, but Oldman totally can.

Interesting side note. Did you know that Nolan originally wanted Oldman for the role of Scarecrow. Only Oldman turned him down saying he had pretty much played every villain. Then Oldman asked about Gordon and Nolan thought it over and thought it would be fantastic. By far the best cast character in this movie.

One question I wonder is why did he never remove the light. I mean it has been eight years and Batman did kill Dent and a handful of others. You figure they would have removed the light. Unless they left it up there to inspire people to catch him.

@RidiculousFanBoyDemands agreed. You can just tell by the tone of his voice and the look on his face that this dark lie that has kept the city safe for 8 years is eating up at him. And didn't Nolan want him for Ducard?

By grabbing a pay check you mean accepting 4 million less than he would have for reprising his role in the GI Joe sequel Grif. ;-)

I still love you thunder buddy.

I just can't imagine... Seriously WHO will ever be able to play these characters better!
Say whatever about Bale... I love him as Bruce & BATMAN!
I see him & I see BATMAN! That's all I need!

Leaving Kids aside! (By kids i mean ... U know, respectfully)
We got Morgan Freeman, Micheal Caine, Gary Oldman & then Liam Neeson & others like Tom Wilkinson etc in this series!
When the fvck will this EVER happen, let alone in any Batman film.... In any film!!!

Cast alone is just beyond!
It's where u get seperated from Popcorn flick to a "Deeper, artistic & intellectual" film!!
It's incredible we are witnessing this!

Years & years from now; people will talk about this even highly as we do now of STAR WARS, GODFATHER & LOTR etc!! It's really in that league!!

I thought he wanted him for Scarecrow. I could be wrong though. All I know is he wanted him as a villain and Oldman at first declined.

You will be Happy to know that Bale apparently knocks it out of the park in this movie. He has stepped up his game, and this movie is all about Bruce Wayne and Bale does an amazing job. Also the Batman voice is much more subtle than before so that should make you happy as well.

It looks like they're borrowing several elements from Bruce Wayne in Dark Knight Returns into this film. Looks real disgruntled.
