JUSTICE LEAGUE's Ben Affleck Still Wants To Direct A BATMAN Movie; May Be Evaluating A Return To The Role

We still don't know for sure if Ben Affleck will don the cape 'n cowl again, but the most recent report on the situation definitely seemed to indicate that he would not be playing the iconic DC hero in Matt Reeves' The Batman, at any rate.

Conflicting Reports Continue To Emerge About Ben Affleck Returning To Play BATMAN - Here's The Latest

For his part, Affleck was typically vague when asked whether he'd be back as The Bat in an interview with Daily Sabah - however, he did seem to suggest that he'd be open to returning if he found the script up to snuff.

“For me, it’s interesting, and I always evaluate this stuff on the merit of the material. I want to direct a Batman movie, and I never got a script that I was happy with, so they are starting over and writing another script. And right now, I think a lot of different possibilities I think for the way the DC Universe could go, and I will just follow my interests in pursing that. And I know that I love working with this group of people, and it was a real joy for me to make this movie.”

So, Affleck decided not to helm The Batman because he didn't like the script? Unless he was taken up wrong during the interview, that certainly seems to be the case.

SPOILERS: The Main Characters Of JUSTICE LEAGUE Ranked From Least To Most Memorable

Hopefully we'll get some kind of official announcemnet on Affleck's tenure as The Dark Knight soon, but in the meantime, let us know what you think of these latest comments in the usual place.

I don't know what annoys me more; Ben's constant back and forth on this whole thing, or the fact that the DCEU is in such shambles that he can afford this undecisiveness.

@OedipusGrex - To be fair he never said he wasn't playing Batman. He's actually given the same answer every time he's asked ("We'll see", "Depends on the script") Everyone else is doing the back and forth thing.

@OedipusGrex - What annoys me more is the constant whining about whatever is going on in the DCEU. You guys act like it is up to you to make these films.

@newhire13 - he said he was looking for a graceful way to exit. It’s been clear that he was unhappy with his role since the release of BvS.

@CavalierTunes - He wasn't unhappy with his role. He was unhappy with the shit people gave him for it, shit that was unnecessary by the way. He wasn't terrible in the role. He just played a Batman who was consumed by rage and felt like his rules against killing no longer mattered in a world of superpowered space aliens.

@SisterSunday52 - I think it's more unlikely he was unhappy with the direction of the films.

@CavalierTunes - more likely* not more unlikely.

@rkshuttleworth - If it WAS up to the fans to make these films, they'd be a whole lot better!

@CavalierTunes - He was proud of the films. He was excited for everyone to see this amazing film about finding hope in absolute despair that he created with Zack. He was so happy and energetic in the interviews in the weeks leading up to the release of Batman v Superman. It wasn't until people took a big massive dump on the work that he did with Zack Snyder and Chris Terrio that Sad Affleck was born. He loved working on the movies. It was the shit he caught for being in them that has made him miserable. Of course, I believe the studio heads trying to carbon copy Marvel with Trailer Park's Suicide Squad, the studio's Justice League, and (I am almost certain) the demands for the early drafts of The Batman, that make him unhappy.

You're exaggerating at the wrong person right now. I suggest you rephrase.

@Atomicockroach - films made by actual fans almost never turn out good. Because they’ll have their own interpretation in mind at all times.

@Philip - Yeah, but all I said was they'd "be a whole lot better" rather than actually saying they'd "turn out good". =P

@JustAChillFan - Him, Terrio, and Johns were the writers I think.
