More On Batman 3: Will We See Production Start This Year?

Further to Jman's earlier report that Chris Nolan's third Batman movie would be heading back to Chicago we have this second source that claims the sets are already being built and a hint that the movie may even begin shooting this year..

Review Opinion

As was previously reported Batman On Film heard from their Chicago sources, where most of TDK and Batman Begins was filmed, that scouting has already begun in the windy city..

"[They] have been out and about in Chicago's Financial District."

While on the set of John Landis’ Burke and Hare, starring Andy Serkis and Simon Pegg, a source over at Moving Image is reporting that one of the crew members (that worked previously with Nolan on Inception and The Dark Knight) has given an update on the progress on Nolan's next Batman movie. Apparently said crew member spoke a little about the set design for Burke And Hare, but...

…he also said sets were either being constructed, or will soon be constructed, for the third Batman, with the possibility of shooting toward the end of the year. He also said that they were coming under budget at the end of The Dark Knight, so they built a whole extra set (possible usage in the third film).

Yeah I know its still a bit of "He said this and I heard that", but coupled with the news from Batman On Film, this could turn out to be legit. Anyway, until we hear anything official from these damn suits, all we can do is speculate right?

I really hope they atleast allude back to the joker and bring him out in another film... noone cares aobvut batman in these movies, to be honest, bale /batman alwmost ruined it with his satan voice. The real star was the joker. Does anyone feel bad to wayne when rachel dies or do u feel bad for harvey? the emotions and foundations of these films are no on batman so they need to be on a villain who can captivate... bring on more joker. I respect the late Heaths work and only he could create that... but another can duplicate it.

Betty..haha, thats what I was thinking. I dunno, the more I think about this its like, if they had these sets up all along someone would have said something before now...anyway, who knows!

Blanket, yeah my emotions were with Harvey..but that wasn't Bale's fault. The narrative decision seemed to want the heart of the movie to remain DEnt..Batman/Wayne was just as much a force of nature as The Joker was.

If they are building sets, or will be soon, would that mean that a script is in development? By that I mean a script not in the early stages but pretty far in development? Not clear on the whole film production stages and what not

What is with people wanting to bring The Joker back. Guys (and girls) Heath Ledger died!! No one is ever going to be able to mimic his performance. Get over it.
Someone may be able to do a short clip emulating it, but featuring him strongly in a sequel is an awful idea.

Originally, I liked the idea of using Black Mask as the villian, but I'm liking The Riddler more and more...

if all these rumors are true (no offense, but if nothing is confirmed then they are just that, rumors) then why all the secrecy???? i don't get it. most movies get officially confirmed before any of this stuff happens. why would they be so secretive about it? i mean, they can't just come out and say, "hey, batman 3 is officially in the works, and Nolan is returning"?

I think I can see them doing some heavy viral marketing with this third film. Possibly to go as far as Cloverfield did. It'd hype it up like hell, and people already want to see it.

Hahahahah TDK comes in under budget and they spend about $100 mil more on Pooperman Returns? Where the fk is the money going?!? Somebody should be checking off shore accounts under the name Bryan Singer.

This actually kinda gives a lil weight to that one poster on Brent's article that claimed he worked on the production of TDK. Remeber that guy? Had some nice stills he posted. He said they were ramping it up again in ChiTown back then.

@ wingpow

i agree except for your riddler comment, lol. but i don't think the joker needs to be in it at all. there was no dangling plot thread as far as the joker is concerned. yes, he said, "we can do this forever". but thats like saying, "I'LL GET YOU NEXT TIME, HE-MAN!"

lol, it doesn't mean he has to be in the next one. though, it would be kind of cool to show him covered in shadows in his cell or something though.

I can't remember either. I do remember being nervous about Ledger. One, I didn't think he was great actor. And two, what pictures they leaked well after principle photgraphy during their viral campaign also didn't inspire me to confidence. It wasn't till after I saw a trailer and finally the movie, did I see the brilliance of Ledger's performance, and Nolan's vision.

But yeah, I do remember that they kept it very tight-lipped about everything. The few things that leaked before was the building exploding and some set pictures that were nabbed from surrounding high-rise buildings.

knightfall would be cool, the hush storyline would be excellent, tiny lister for killer croc or do robin becomes nightwing with deathstroke training him like they did in the teen titians tv show.

@Deadpool72 I highly doubt Chris would do a Robin story. Didn't he even state that he wouldn't? Though, Deathstroke would be awesome to up the darkness in the series. Maybe have The Riddler and Deathstroke. I don't know how the 2 characters would work with each other, but even so.

lolololol. seriously guys, this might be the only website on the entire net that thinks Deathstroke is even a possibility. its a batman movie, they will use BATMAN villains...which Deathstroke is not.

Wing Pow-

The Joker character is bigger than Heath Ledger. As such, the show must go on. I can't believe people don't want to see more of the Joker just because Ledger died.

Somehow, there is the idea floating around that recasting the Joker would be tantamount to pissing on Heath's grave. Not so. People act as if Heath had some magical acting ability that could not possibly be duplicated by any living mortal. Geez

AMEN @BROTHER JOHNSON!! Dude was great in the role but you gotta move on! Remember a lot of people thought no one could replace Jack as the joker but Heath proved them wrong. If u ask me it just steps up quality for the next film, like can you top this!?!? Makes for epic films!

I find it hard to believe TDK came in under budget after smashing to bits one of the (what was it only eight) IMAX cameras in the world. Also wonder if they had to pay an insurance deductable out for Nathan Crowley.

I will say they saved some money on only smashing one of the Lambo Murcielagos up (they had another one standing by lol).

And they don't build sets and leave them standing around for three+ years... ever. period.

I don't believe much of this, myself.

Would love for Nolan and Bale to make three more after this. To have a collection of 6 really good bat films would be a dream. I hope Depp is The Riddler and Bain gets another shot. The only other villain I hope too see in the next film is Mr.Freeze played by Patrick Stewart of course.
