Very little is known about the direction that Ben Affleck's version of The Batman would have taken aside from the fact that it would have pitted the Dark Knight against Deathstroke. However, it appears as if a new version of Robin also would have been introduced as Geoff Johns has revealed that Titans actor Ryan K. Potter sent in audition takes for Tim Drake in the original version of the DC Comics movie.

While Zack Snyder has claimed that Dick Grayson was the Robin killed by The Joker, common sense says that Johns and Affleck's script would have revealed it to be Jason Todd, especially with Drake playing a role in proceedings. Will the youngster factor into Matt Reeves' version of the movie? That's hard to say but we know that he's totally rewritten the screenplay so there's a chance he won't show up now.

Potter must have been disappointed but he clearly impressed Johns enough to be cast as Beast Boy in the DC Universe series. Would you guys have liked to see Tim Drake brought to the big screen?

Less off-topic then when I posted it on the Avengers article, and now the full quote:

And although these guys that he's fighting are bad and they deserve, you know, they deserve what he's dishing out, it seems, he believes that when you kill someone you crossed the line and you become almost as bad as them, so it’s pretty clear in the series that he was with Batman, Batman crossed the line and he was teaching me to do the same thing, and he’s trying to break away from that.”

And why wouldn't we want to establish a deliberately killing Batman as the new (live action) norm?

@Kyos - You know, I said the DC stuff was leaning into some dicey territory when they made Superman a deadbeat dad and made Batman an avatar for Bush Administration warrentless wiretapping, and people said I was overreacting.

Now, Batman is a relentless killer and Superman is a zombie with a rubber mouth. Who is the crazy one now?!

@Spock0Clock - Was Batman wiretapping really bad though? The whole point of vigilantism is that you act outside the law and that has advantages in crime fighting. Do you really not think he should wiretap Penguin for example?

@Nightwing1015 - I think the question of vigilantism itself and their methods is complex, and open to debate. (As is the exact level of appropriate surveillance.)

But the US Government is not Batman. And in 2008, this plot point was used to justify a "just this once" mentality that many voters felt Al Qaeda required.

If Batman had just hacked the cell network and found Joker, that'd be one thing. But to have Fox protest as a stand-in for civil libertarians and then to theatrically destroy the machine as if it can't just be rebuilt the next time he wants to use it was precisely the wrong way to handle it. The movie presents the surveillance apparatus as bad, but reassures audiences that the people who have it can be trusted. That's irresponsible (in my view).

I should add: I think Batman being a politically "conservative superhero" is actually fine. A lot of his themes fit that construction. The real problem I had with Dark Knight's wiretapping plot (and the class warfare thread in the sequel) is that they were kind of disingenuous and mealy-mouthed. Paying lip-service to detractors, but then sidelining them without a real response.

I STILL want to read this script. What could Geoff Johns, Ben Affleck, and Chris Terrio have written? What was the plot of this film? While it's not impossible, I find it hard to believe that those three would have written a lackluster Batman film. I have to know what that film was
