Jonah Nolan Thanks Fans & Expresses Disappointment About TDK Noms

In a class act on his part, TDK co-writer Jonah Nolan wrote an e-mail to say "thank you" to the fans and to the staff of DarkCampaign.com --a website devoted to promote nominations for The Dark Knight for the Oscars.

Well Jonah Nolan, co-writer of TDK and brother of its Director Christopher Nolan, wrote a letter to thank fans and people in general for their enthusiasm of promoting the movie in order to get as many nominations for the upcoming 2009 Academy Awards.

As everybody Knows by now, TDK got as many as 8 Nominations, but NOT inluding Best Motion Picture, Best Director, nor Best adapted Screenplay.

In the letter JN expresses his disappointment about it, but recognizes the Team work for making the movie.

The letter says:

"hey — not sure who to address this to as it looks like a collective effort, but I just wanted to pass along my thanks.

It’s truly humbling that you guys would take the time and effort to try to get the film recognized. I, like you, was disappointed that Chris didn’t get some recognition this morning, but for Heath and so many of the people who worked so hard on this thing to get nominated is thrilling.

Any nominations for a comic book movie is a thing of beauty no matter how you slice it, and that takes the sting out a bit. Besides, I’ve been to the big show before, and, like any of these things, it’s a little disappointing. Did you know it’s not even an open bar once the show starts? At least this time I would have remembered to bring a little cash so I could buy myself a drink after losing.

The best part of this experience is seeing other people getting passionate about the film the way that we did. It has been a truly incredible experience. So thank you again.

best,

jonah nolan"

That´s precisly THE MAIN RESON those movies get the nomination, so that people start to ask "hey what the hell is The Reader all about?"
yeah seems like the Oscars work as Advertising unknown movies.

Well i dont mind movies ive never heard of being nominated as long as they deserve to be. Im that big a film buff that its rare i wouldnt have heard of any that would be nominated, although i havnt seen all of them. Slumdog is great, The Reader is boring, Milk is very good but shamelessly geared for oscar glory. havnt seen the rest.

im still pissed off about no noms for best picture..Academy awards go [frick] yourselves you elitist, archaic, miserable old [foo foo]s

Because the Academics get to see them WAY before they hit the theaters, mostly in december, for "normal" people like us can actually see them...if we care to anyway.
They SHOULD be good i think, for their academic-eyes(and asses! haha)

TDK could easily take the place Benjamin Button in the list of nominees. Benjamin Button was a movie with a decent concept that ended up having no real heart to it and lasted for way too long. TDK on the other hand wasn't just an excellent comic book movie, but an excellent movie in general. Along with greatly improved action sequences it also featured spot on performances (Heath Ledger wasn't alone in this department) and a story that was absolutley brilliant and haunting, especially considering Harvey Dent's tragic story arch.

Might want to fix the article up. His name is Jonathan Nolan.

I am upset about Gran Torino's snubs, and I also feel Colin Farell should've been nominated for In Bruges. In my eyes TDK was definitely at very least worthy of a nomination.Isn't JoNo a class act?

Dark knight grossed $531,757,754 as of now, none of those movies nominated for best picture comes close 2 that amount, so i dont think anybody who made money of the dark knight dosnt give a flying,u kno, about an oscor nod.
SirJediFrank
SirJediFrank - 1/28/2009, 11:15 AM
zinext: yes but the people you talk about are the studio suits, the executive producers of the movie.. they care only about the money (it´s ok they are in the business)... BUT THE PEOPLE THAT DO CARE are the director, the writers, the actors and the crew.

LeonardShelby: i don´t know his full first name, i took it from the web.. let me see.. OH you are correct. i´ll try to fix it. :-]

zinext,

According to some(not me)alot of people liking something doesn't make it good.

I believe the masses can't be wrong (in this context). $531,757,754 speaks for itself. If you don't like something that so many people liked that they spent $531,757,754 on, then "YOU!!"..."ARE WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

But that's just me...
Tenaciousbt
Tenaciousbt - 1/28/2009, 2:56 PM
oh and zinext,
your right I am sure that the people who made $531,757,754 don't care what the loser Accademy thinks, but, it just sucks that they obviously don't think it was good enough and will never give a prestigious award to a comicbook movie.

The Dark Knight not being nominated for best picture is shamefull. The snub of snubs! I can say now with a forified level of conviction that the Academy will never take Comic book movies seriously. C'mon seriously even "Beauty and the Beast" got a nomination. Which means in the eyes of the Academy animation is held in higher regard than comicbook movies.

Hey guys, I don't think the Oscars matter at all. The academy is just a bunch of people who are paid waaaay to much to watch real movies that actual people would watch. That is why I believe the quintessential awards for movies are the People's Choice Awards. Though they are not at prestigious ,which they should be as the stupid Oscars, they mean more because it's people like us peons that vote for the awards. After all, it is us that actually watch the movies.
