A rumor did the rounds a while ago that Mahershala Ali had met with Warner Bros. and director Matt Reeves about the role of Commissioner Jim Gordon in
The Batman, and it looks like that's now been confirmed.
Last night, we learned that Jeffrey Wright (
Westworld, The Hunger Games) was in final talks to play The Dark Knight's trusted ally, but Variety's Justin Kroll has now shared the following update.
From the sounds of things, Ali may have been forced to choose, and The Daywalker won out!
As for Jonah Hill, it seems there's so much confusion surrounding the role he's up for because it simply hasn't been decided yet.
Collider's Jeff Sneider reckons Hill is dead set on playing The Riddler because he "has long admired Jim Carrey, and how he transitioned from comedies to more dramatic roles, which Jonah has also done with his career. Plus, Riddler in Forever not as iconic as Penguin in Returns, so easier to reinvent."
If that's accurate, can we assume that the studio and/or Reeves would rather he portrayed The Penguin?
We should get more details on this pretty soon, along with more casting news.
The Batman is expected to commence production this summer.
