Yesterday, Warner Bros. released a new trailer for The Batman that put the spotlight on the Dark Knight and Catwoman's dynamic. The teaser has now been followed by a synopsis (via German website Cinemaxx) which may shed some light on an unexpected connection between the vigilantes.
"Dark, stylish retelling of the Dark Knight's fight against the crime in Gotham," reads the English translation of these possible new plot details. "Gotham is being hit by a gruesome series of crimes that the police have long been unable to cope with. Bruce Wayne aka Batman does what he can, but also reaches his limits. The Penguin has a hand in it, but he is only one in the all-encompassing swamp of the city. The appearance of his childhood friend Selina Kyle alias Catwoman creates additional emotional confusion in the angry fighter for justice."
Bruce and Selina being childhood friends does make sense, especially if she was brought up by Carmine Falcone. There's clearly something corrupt about the Wayne family that The Riddler is looking to expose in The Batman, and a history between the Waynes and Falcones could be it. This would undoubtedly make the moment Selina realises it's Bruce beneath Batman's cape and cowl all the more meaningful.
In related news, director Matt Reeves has shared the 4K version of the latest trailer for the DC Comics adaptation, and to say this movie looks incredible would be an understatement. Gotham City, in particular, looks like it's been lifted straight from the comics.
