THE BATMAN Starring Robert Pattinson May Also End Up Introducing A New Robin

Robert Pattinson is officially suiting up as the Dark Knight in The Batman and a new report claims that the Matt Reeves helmed release will also introduce a new Robin! Hit the jump to find out more...

Since yesterday, a number of reliable outlets have confirmed that Robert Pattinson has closed a deal to star as Bruce Wayne in The Batman. However, there are now rumblings that Robin could also end up making an appearance in the DC Comics adaptation.

According to Forbes, there are indeed plans for The Penguin and Catwoman to appear and they will be joined by new versions of The Riddler, Alfred Pennyworth, and Commissioner Gordon (which presumably means we can expect Jeremy Irons and J.K. Simmons to be recast for the reboot).

However, what's really interesting is the fact that Robin is also among those expected to appear.

This is very much a rumour for now but it's about time the Boy Wonder return to the big screen. Whether that's a good idea in a movie that needs to introduce a new Batman is hard to say but if this movie is in any way tied to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (and it probably won't be based on what we've heard), we could end up seeing Jason Todd working alongside Pattinson's Caped Crusader.

Either way, with Reeves reportedly planning an entire trilogy of Batman films, he could easily introduce one of the Robins in The Batman and have their story play out over the course of those.

We'll have to wait and see but it would certainly be interesting seeing a modern day take on the Dynamic Duo, especially as the last time they were paired up on screen was way back in 1997!

Killing off Robin was such a stupid idea. Not the most stupid of the DCEU though.

For all those who are saying that Pattinson does not look like Bruce Wayne (like that Andre idiot on YouTube), you clearly did not read comics recently.
Pattinson really reminds Scott Snyder / Greg Capullo Bruce Wayne.

@Ryuzaki - looks nothing like Pattinson tbh.

And even if he did look like him, Greg Capullo alone does not define what Batman looks like.

I hope this is still somewhat connected to the DCCU or whatever we’re calling it now.. huge disappointment if it’s not.. we’ve had soooo many Batman movies over the years.. obviously the initial roll out for the extended cinematic period universe hasn’t been great, but that doesn’t mean you give up.. it with Aquaman 2, WW2 and all the rest still coming out... the Joker movie alone is gonna confuse the hell out of the general audience..

Fingers crossed that it’s a soft reboot and still connects...

Although I don’t see Pattinson having the same chemistry as Ben did w/ Gal... I’ve always wanted to see Bats and WW have a romantic relationship in the movies

@MuadDib - I think the 'chemistry' between Gadot and Affleck in the DCU films is non-existent.

@MuadDib - it’s not a soft reboot, reboot, elseworlds or whatever.

It’s a prequel trilogy set 10-15 years prior to MOS.

Just stop reading JoshWilding. He still thinks Suicide Squad is a Reboot. And he continues to push this reboot or outside DCEU narrative.

It’s simple...all Reeves he said is that his Batman Trilogy will NOT have any requirement to squeeze in outside DC Characters. That’s
it.

Here is Matt Reeves on it. Not my words...his words

““In my comments from a while back about not being part of the DCEU, I was talking about The Batman being a story specifically about Batman… not about the others in the Universe. That it wouldn’t be filled with cameos servicing other stories — that it would be a BATMAN story.”

So you won’t see Supes or Flash or Mamoa or Cyborg because they don’t exist yet.

Nice. It's way past time for a modernized, well-developed cinematic version of Robin.

Seeing as ‘The Batman’ is 100% a Prequel Trilogy WITHIN DCEU Continuity we will need one of the Robins around to watch as the Joker brutally murders him.

It’s going to be a wild ride watching the 20 years of Gotham and the fall of all the good guys

@IronGenesis - The news movies aren't connected the DCEU movies. Having Batman intentionally killing shouldn't be part of this new series. Also, Jason Todd is the Robin that is killed by Joker in BvS.

@MexCowboyNation - look forward to seeing who they cast as young joker to murder young Jason Todd in the 2nd or 3rd film.
