Saw it Friday with my 10 year old and really enjoyed it.
Sure the pacing was awkward at times and so what if the dream sequences/future justice leaguers seemed "shoehorned" in a little! It was a fun, interesting 2.5 hours of well done superhero escapism! With that said, I'll give some bullet point thoughts with a rating out of 100
Characters and acting job...
Superman/Clark: A young man still coming to terms with his extremely unique situation. 87, 93
Batman/Bruce: An older man dealing with consequences and regret while trying to adapt to the new reality (with the coolest batsuits yet) 94, 95
Wonder Woman/Diana: Her relatively small presence left me intrigued about her solo film. When WW was on screen fighting, I had the thought "Female Thor" (not negativity, BTW). 88,91
Lex: AWFUL! Worst part of the movie! Bad characterization, convoluted motivations and a one trick pony of an actor!
Lex Luthor should have a cool, calculating veneer with a sinister core that we're all waiting to erupt!
Jesse Eisenberg and Willie Nelson have the same acting range. They both come on set and play themselves regardless of the character! And I'd rather watch Willie Nelson. Giving this character to this actor was their biggest mistake! .01, .01
Doomsday: I liked how he evolved as the fight went on but, at some point, I wanted to see him as he was in the comics. That didn't happen. My 10 year old thought he was awesome though! 83
Alfed: I liked Alfred as the badass mentor/facilitator for Batman. Irons played him like a man who'd seen a thing or two in his day too. 94, 94
Lois, Perry, Ma Kent, everybody else: blah, blah, blah, who cares, we were there for Super Heroes!
Random notes:
•2 or 3 times characters referred to the fact that the fights were in un populated areas. Seemed like a poke at critics of MoS that I found annoying.
•Lots of fun Easter eggs and comic book moments.
•I wanted to forget the awful mischaracterization of Pa Kent from MoS! Why did they remind me with his unnecessary dream lecture?
•I couldn't tell what was happening in the Aquaman cameo. And is Aquaman supposed to be HOLDING HIS BREATH? Because that's what it looked like.
•I liked the Martha coincidence being the thing that snapped Batman out of murder mode and into empathy mode. He missed his mama.
•Batman's warehouse fight was the coolest Batman movie moment yet!
I'm forgetting some of the other things that annoyed me but that's all for now.
It's a fun movie, we'll probably see it again this weekend!
Bring something up in the comments and I'll try to offer my thoughts.
