All the signs are pointing to Black Panther being a huge hit as the tracking data is in and it looks like T'Challa's first solo outing will earn upwards of $100 million when it debuts at the North American box office. The Marvel Studios movie is set to kick off its run on February 16th, the beginning of the four-day Presidents' Day weekend. It's the first tentpole of 2018 so will set the tone for the rest of the year.
With three weeks to go until Black Panther actually hits theaters, there's time for these numbers to increase too, especially as the studio will no doubt ramp up the marketing campaign from here.
The movie stars Chadwick Boseman, Lupita Nyong'o, Michael B. Jordan, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis. It's the eighteenth release set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and if these tracking numbers are accurate, Black Panther should finish ahead of Doctor Strange. That earned $85 million back in 2016 and was considered a strong result.
