BLACK WIDOW Star Scarlett Johansson Said To Be "Shocked" By Disney's Response To Her Lawsuit

We recently learned that Scarlett Johansson has sued Disney over the simultaneous theatrical and streaming release of Black Widow, and the Mouse House's response is said to have shocked the actress.

The messy Scarlett Johansson/Disney saga continues, with a new report claiming that the actress was far from impressed by the company's response to her lawsuit filing.

As we recently reported, the Black Widow star is in the process of taking legal action against the Walt Disney Co., alleging that her contract was breached when the Marvel Studios movie was released on Disney+ and in theaters simultaneously. Disney's response called the filing "sad and distressing in its callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic."

Johansson's representatives told The Wrap that the Avengers: Endgame star was "shocked by the tone" of Disney's statement, and it's not hard to see why.

Marvel's Kevin Feige is also said to be "angry and embarrassed" by Disney's handling of the situation, and Johansson's agent and CAA co-chairman Bryan Lourd has since released a statement of his own, hitting back at the Mouse House for "shamelessly and falsely accusing Ms. Johansson of being insensitive to the global COVID pandemic, in an attempt to make her appear to be someone they and I know she isn't."

"The company included her salary in their press statement in an attempt to weaponize her success as an artist and businesswoman, as if that were something she should be ashamed of," Lourd continued, adding that the lawsuit was filed as "a result of Disney’s decision to knowingly violate Scarlett's contract."

We're sure both parties would rather this situation was resolved as quickly and as quietly as possible, but if the past few days are any indication, things are only going to get nastier moving forward. We'll be sure to keep you guys updated on any developments.

Got to agree with all of that. Pretty surprised Disney thought that response would engender any sort of goodwill.

@Dotanuki - You fools. They want to crush so other actors stay in their lane.

@Roodi - exactly. This is 4D chess Disney is playing. And their calendars are reading 3021.

I mean, deals a deal. Other way around and Disney would be pissed and suing everybody.

RDJ and Hemsworth’s deal was that they received a percentage of the box office. Nowhere in their contracts does it state that the films were exclusively released in theatres. That is all of course based on what it says online. But using what’s there, would Johansson’s contract really say something like “You will receive x% of the box office, in which the film will only be released theatrically for a set period of four months.” You can’t really sue someone for being morally wrong when a contract is signed. If all you’ve agreed to is a percentage of the box office then you’ve made your bed. Either way, the rich get richer, billion dollar greedy corporation versus a pedophile sympathiser. No real reason to support either side.

@SamaelSaint - yeah thats what I think too. Even though its a shitty move by Disney, I'm guessing they did find some loophole in the contract that allows them to keep all revenue from streaming.

@SamaelSaint - Agreed.

Also, this movie had to be released to keep up with the D+ TV shows as the new Black Widow appears in Hawkeye and potentially in Chang-Chi’s fight tournament.

I see no reason why D+ wouldn’t want to maximize profits during a pandemic when the box office can’t be properly estimated. And on top of all of this, none of us know what the wording is in her contract so it’s all speculation and we might never know as I am speculating that this gets handled out of court and they throw $20 million to shut her up behind the scenes and go on with their day.

ScarJo should be compensated, for that weird statement released by Disney. It was really mean-spirited & unprofessional.

Bob Chapek and Disney owe Scarlett Johansson a public apology.

@DoubleD - @DoubleD - I guarantee that companies like Disney are not going to apologize. That's the bottom line. I support Scarlets nevertheless but if you're going toe to toe against the head of the big studio, you are going to lose. Whether you're famous or not, it makes no difference.

Yeah, well attacking someone's personal character will do that. Calling her behavior sad and distressing just came off petty.
