David Hayter Talks About His Old BLACK WIDOW Script

Voice-actor, screenwriter and director David Hayter talks about his old Black Widow script he wrote Marvel Studios and why he thinks the film never got made. "I’m going to talk to Marvel about possibly re-igniting that project. It really depends on Marvel on what they want to do with that character."

These days, David Hayter is probably best known as the voice of Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid video game franchise.  But Hayter also has a solid background as a traditional actor, screenwriter and director.  In fact, Hayter wrote a script for a solo Black Widow movie for Marvel Studios a long time ago, however, a few misfires in the genre has left the script sitting on the shelf for roughly 10 years.  Now, with properties like The Hunger Games, Divergent and others leading the movement for more female action movies, is the time right for a solo outing for the lone female member of The Avengers?

On his script, Hayter told Latino Review, “For ‘Black Widow,’ I wrote [a script] ten years ago and I was attached to direct it then. Then a few female action movies came out and they didn’t do very well. And the movie got shelved. It’s on IMDB and I’m going to talk to Marvel about possibly re-igniting that project. It really depends on Marvel on what they want to do with that character. So that’s the status of that right now. “[So] as far as I know, it’s not a project that’s happening yet. But, I have written a script for it.

Most people know this guy as the voice of Snake, a writer on X2, and an overall contributor to Watchmen...

Before all that, he voiced Tamahome for the English dub of Fushigi Yuugi.
Which makes me s[racial slur]. Strange career choice.

Not interested, they should kill her in Avengers 2. Superheroes without powers are lame. Batman is obviously exception.

Btw no one would care about Scarlett Johansson if she didn't have big ass and tits. She is mediocre actor.

I wanna see a Black Widow / Hawkeye prequel. Maybe when he was assigned to kill her and decided to bring her in instead.
In any case, it needs to involve Budapest.

I fall somewhere between SuperCat and 0mega on this. I wouldn't mind a Black Widow movie but there are other characters that I would rather see instead.

You guys don't want to hear it, but Shane Black proved that female action films can do well - or did we all forget Geena Davis in 'the Long Kiss Goodnight'?

Tarantino led the resurgence back when Underworld, Ultraviolet, Elektra, and Catwoman were trying to be movies.... 'Kill Bill' isn't a forgettable adventure.

Could Black Widow be half as awesome? I hope.

When people talk about characters not being able to "hold their own" in a feature film, I just roll my eyes. You're really limiting yourself if you think that way.

A movie in Phase 4 involving Hawkeye, Black Widow, War Machine and Winter Soldier would be cool. Not really necessary, but it would be a cool way to develop Bucky a bit before he inevitably takes over as Captain America once Chris Evans is done. Maybe even have it as a kind of prequel to Avengers 4, which would see in a new roster after Robert Downey Jr, Evans and Hemsworth are done with their respective roles.
Then we could have Bucky Cap, Widow, Hawkeye, Iron Man (Rhodey), Ms Marvel and Black Panther, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch and Vision as the Avengers.

She can definitely hold her own film, but as many said, at this point is it necessary? Well it depends on her involvement in the upcoming films. If her role in Avengers 2 is as crutial as it was in Cap2 then yes, because that might mean things that effect her will be important to the MCU's development. If not, it would probably just be for fun, which there is no problem with, but if I had to choose between it and a different film that will progress the MCU, I'd pick the later.

I think having Black Widow in team up films would be good, since it worked well with Cap2, which could have easily been called "Captain America & Black Widows The Winter Soldier." A Hawkeye, Mockingbird, and/or Winter Soldier team up would be a good way to go. I'm not saying she needs another character with her to make a successful film, but at this point, I don't see a Black Widow film doing much, if any progression to the MCU, but if you add in another character then I can see it.

I don't think she'll do it.
But it could be an interesting movie. She does have a dark and mysterious past that could definitely be entertaining.
