Back in February, we learned that a Black Panther spinoff series from Marvel Studios was in development for Disney+, and we may now know the MCU hero that will be at the heart of the show.
In a profile focused on Danai Gurira's lawyer, Jamie Mandelbaum, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that he's successfully negotiated a deal for Gurira to star in a Disney+ Okoye origin series. While it was a given that Gurira would be returning for 2022's Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the typical Marvel secrecy surrounding their projects meant there were very few details at the time of the announcement, and tons of fan theories and guesses regarding the show's subject matter and place in the MCU timeline.
The previous announcement back in February also revealed that director Ryan Coogler would be the guiding force behind the show, and that he would be developing several projects for Marvel. It's possible that the Okoye origin series is but one of many irons in the fire. Expect more details to be revealed in the coming weeks as the world slowly returns to a sense of normalcy.
