SPIDER-MAN's Suit In CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Will Have "A Little Twist;" Is It Iron Spider?

We've seen rumors floating around about the possibility of Spider-Man donning multiple suits in Captain America: Civil War. At CCXP 2015, co-director Anthony Russo spoke on the chances of seeing the 'Iron Spider' suit & promised a twist. Plus, a 'Red Hulk' update!

On May 6, 2016, forget the Age of Ultron... it's the Age of Spider-Man!

Co-director Anthony Russo was more than enthusiastic when confirming and then subsequently discussing the wall-crawler's presence in his upcoming film, Captain America: Civil War. Speaking with SUPER Interessante, the younger Russo brother fielded a pair of questions regarding what specific costume (or costumes) fans will see Tom Holland (In The Heart Of The Sea) don when he portrays Marvel's most iconic hero, Spider-Man, in the highly anticipated Captain America sequel.

For months now, there have been rumors floating around that, despite a limited presence, Peter Parker would sport multiple costumes in Civil War with the classic costume, the Iron Spider suit, and a homemade costume being the most likely candidates. Last week, thanks to Entertainment Weekly's Civil War feature, we learned that we would definitely see the classic red-and-blue costume, but would that be it?

Maybe, maybe not.

When directly asked about the 'Iron Spider' suit, Russo played it fairly coy saying "the film will show a mix of what everyone is waiting for... with a little twist." Well, it doesn't get more intriguing than that.

Read Russo's full comments regarding Spider-Man & the 'Iron Spider' suit below:

SUPER: There are many rumors are talking about two, three uniforms in the film. What can you talk about it?

Anthony Russo: Well, we did a lot of research and experimented with the looks of each character. We went through the same process with Spider-Man. We knew it was going to be someone young and it was very important to us because we wanted to give this essence to the character, because he is someone unique to the Marvel Universe. Tom Holland is an amazing Spider-Man, people will love him. It was a very experimental process, placing him with the other actors, especially with Downey Jr., we had to learn as we worked. And we're very happy with the final result. We're still working on a few things, like the costume. He's not ready yet because so much will be produced with special effects.

SUPER: Will the film show the red-and-gold costume that was made famous in the Civil War comic?

AR: The film will show a mix of what everyone is waiting for with a little twist. So yeah, that's all I can say.

Special effects? A little twist?

We've seen Spidey in live-action twice before, both times with near-perfect costumes, and outside of seeing him in motion, it's hard to think of a specific situation in the past five films, save for the symbiote suit, where special effects were directly used to enhance and/or produce the costume. So, could Russo's comment be indirect confirmation that we'll see some version of the popular 'Iron Spider' suit? Or could we be getting something else entirely?

Further speaking with Diario de Pernambuco, Russo reiterated that it was incredibly important to him and his brother that Spidey be a part of the story and that there was no Plan B if Kevin Feige wasn't able to work his magic with Sony Pictures and find a way to bring Spider-Man on-board. Russo also assured fans that even though they're introducing a new version (and third version in the past fifteen years) of the classic hero that everyone will be "very happy with what's coming."

As for the return of William Hurt (The Incredible Hulk) as General Thaddeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross, it sounds like his presence will be more for continuity's sake rather than as a set-up for his 'Red Hulk' alter-ego: "We tried to rescue what had been done in the movies and move forward from there. We like the idea that this character had already appeared in the movies and it seemed like the perfect opportunity for him to make his return. So, the choice had more to do with the relationship of the character to this movie moreso than to the comics. At least, for this movie."

So, what do you guys think? Sound off with your thoughts below!

It's clearly Iron Spider. Otherwise what would be the point of putting him in the film? He's not going to unmask to the world.

I consider Yellowjacket as already having set up the Iron Spider. It's basically the same costume.

Too early for that, probably some weird variation of the classic suit.

I would like to see Peter start with a very basic suit he made, that looks like something a talented teenager might make.

If his webbing isn't organic as with Raimi's version, then I hope Tony helps him develop the web-shooters; ideally Peter and Tony working together to create the webbing and shooters. It isn't canon from the comics, but it fits into the MCU continuity quite well.

I have mixed feelings about the Iron Spider suit, but it and Otto's version of Spiderman made good use of the extra limbs. It certainly makes him look more Spider like. Downside is that it completely undercuts Doc Ock when he eventually emerges because that is his entire power set aside from his genius.

@dethpillow - "just make him look like Spider-Man for [frick]'s sake.

web pits are cool. start off home made costume is cool.

but do we really need a bunch of people rethinking how Spider-Man should look? it's one of the most simple things in the world, just [frick]ing do it. pretty much like all the Spider-Man movies have so far. even fan films aren't that bad.
Spider-Man's costume is just perfect, don't [frick] with it."

Agree on all points!!!

"symbiote suit is not [frick]ing with it, it's a variation on design. anything with kneepads and shit or bizarre ass tactical textures is not needed.
leave Spider-Man alone, thank you."

Besides, the symbiote will be an easter egg in GotG2, well before it makes its way to Earth, NYC. So, at least the 2nd or 3rd Spider-Man movie.

Frankly, I would like to see him in something more homemade, almost like that fan art with the red and blue hoody. Home made costume has a brief appearance in the first half of the film, then later on, Stark shows him the webshooters as a work in progress. Right before the final "battle" he gets to suit up in the classic suit with a twist, whatever that may be.
