Captain America is 2 Weeks away....Will he Rise or Fall to the Occasion?

It is time for another Mighty Marvel Mashup because there has been so much cool Marvel Stuff this summer that we can't wait for Captain America to throw that shield of his across the silver screen for us to see....until now.

Let’s start with the brilliant looking Captain America First Avenger. You have to admit that Hugo Weaving looks amazing and you know whatever blockbuster that man touches turns to gold. I have also added the cool Capt America Wallpaper. So chill out and watch this amazing trailer again and let the hope fill your body.

We have the Australian Trailer for all of you down the bottom and Paramount have given us a cool and very branded picture of the Red Skull.

Captain America: The First Avenger - Theatrical... by Paramount_Australia

Meanwhile, director Joe Johnston tells Comic Book Movie that he'd be interested in coming back for the sequel.

"I would be interested if the story is as unique as 'Captain America.' That's a tall order, but if Markus and McFeely are writing it there's a very good chance it will be great," he says. "There are other interesting characters in the Marvel universe, for instance, the Winter Soldier, aka Sergeant James Buchanan Barnes."

Is MARVEL becoming the powerhouse of film as it is in comic books because of DC comics failures to hit the targets as they projected or promised? We'll see.

Will Captain America rise or fall to the curse that has plagued some heroes of the screen as of late....Green Lantern for example. No knock there but we all thought Green Lantern was a sure thing. Are people interested in the character or the story of these films, What defines success or failure for Superheroes in movies?

what defies success well the most obvious thing is the box office, then what the general audience and fans think of it, but thats usually tied in with the amount it makes in the box office. and I guess some people would judge it on its critical success too. Any ways looking forward to it and hopefully it isn't a dud, because we've already had one.

Cap will be a great period piece comic movie but the sales will suffer because its comming out on the heels of the last installment of the Harry Potter series. Harry Potter has the chance of reaching 1 billion worldwide because of its cinimatic history. Cap will make its money back unlike some other CBMs (cough GL cough).

@Gusto

We're the most hated country in the world. Because they're all jealous. So Cap will be lucky to make 50 million from foreign markets

I watched the trailer when i went to Horrible Bosses last night. The more I look at Captain the more I lose faith for some reason.

I think people are going to be dissapointed in this movie if Cap only throws his shield a couple times in the whole movie .

Actually I always thought that GL was not a sure thing but rather a guaranteed failure, even if the movie was good. Why? Because of the answer to your question about what makes CBM's a success.

Mass market appeal (MMA).

Sometimes it's obvious with a bit of thought:
- Batman has the greatest MMA because of his iconism and relatability.
- THOR would have limited MMA (compared to the big guns) in the states because mythology/sword & sorcery has limited appeal there, and conversely would do better in Europe.
- Spiderman has high MMA because of iconic stature and relatability.
- GL has minimal MMA because it's an unrelatable cheesy silly concept of colour coded emotion power magic space rings.

Sometimes it's unpredictable:
- IRON MAN - unexpectedly high.

Sometimes you just can't tell.

One would think that CAPTAIN AMERICA would have high MMA in the US because of being a patriotic hero, WW II associations, relatable character, historic (not current) iconic status, etc. But current tracking still has a $50 - $60 million opening weekned, which isn't that impressive.

All we can do is wait and see. At the very least I want a GREAT ENJOYABLE MOVIE. If it has enough MMA to be a box-office success and spawn sequels then awesome!!!

Jesus Christ, man we get it! You hate Green Lantern for stupid, close minded reasons; who gives a flying [frick], no need to post it repeatedly like some douche!

Plus what the hell does GL have anything to do with CA; last time I check, they are two completely different films. Why the hell use a movie that is going to be awesome; to a movie not liked by most.

@Coldblood6 4th to 6th comment
Oh, it is just a computer glitch. Sorry for yelling at you like that; I think what bugs me the most about people are those who repeatedly state things that are bad over and over again, to a point of me thinking that they are desperate for positive attention. But, you just accidently post your comments three times due to some crap submit button.
On a side note, erase the extra comments you posted; ok. ;)

I am a huge nerd living in a small town. No one around here except a few of my friends even know that captain america is a comic book character, but everyone I know wants to see this movie. I feel it will be a success.
I agree. Batman/Spiderman movies are the most likely to be successful out of comic book movies. They have fan bases with regular movie goers, young people, older people, and comic geeks. Everyone I know loves batman and spiderman.
I enjoyed Green Lantern, but I don't think it was anything special.
However, I loveeeeeed Thor. I believe Captain will top it. But I also love movies set in the 40's and 50's. I believe I was born 30 years late.
I was never a huge Captain America fan. Always thought he was lame, but then I picked up the first 20 avengers comics, and cap is the best.
Also about Iron Man, I think it is already a new classic Marvel Character. Everyone I know also loves those films.
