Samuel L. Jackson's and Dominic Cooper's characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe - Nick Fury and Howard Stark - had an off-screen correlation separated by different time periods, but conjoined by S.H.I.E.L.D. in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger. This and their admiration of each other's work is why the actors were happy to finally work together in Reasonable Doubt, a crime thriller that released last week. While discussing the film with Fandango, the pair also talked about their Marvel ventures. “It's your gene pool, man – you're Robert Downey's gene pool!” Jackson told Cooper, laughing, suggesting that the English actor should play Howard Stark in more movies. “Without you, there'd be no Downey.” He's likely not in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
“You can't really think too much about – because of so many years and so many fans, you're answering to quite a lot of people's idea of who they expect that person to be,” Cooper said. “Hopefully, they'll work out a way to bring Stark back in somewhere. I don't know how because it was set in the past, but he's a really fun character to play. It's great. He's an old-fashioned playboy.” Cooper also hopes Marvel will develop a story that would allow him to play a scene with Robert Downey Jr. “There's some fun to be had with Howard Stark, there really is.”
Furthermore, Samuel L. Jackson told Fandango that he doesn't know what's in store for Nick Fury after The Avengers: Age of Ultron. “Nope, none whatsoever,” he says happily. “I just know that the Marvel Universe is there, that there are things going on, and that I have three pictures left on my nine-picture deal. That's all I know. I've done six of them, and I'm about to do seven, so I'm running out of Marvel pictures – unless they extend my contract.” Would he be up for nine more films? “Hell, yeah! Why wouldn't I?” he says, as long as the deal is right. What do you think?
