Samuel L. Jackson On His Marvel Contract; Dominic Cooper Wants A Scene with Robert Downey Jr.

Would Samuel L. Jackson be game for extending his Marvel contract after the nine-picture deal lets up? The Nick Fury actor answers, while he and his Reasonable Doubt co-star want more Howard Stark

Samuel L. Jackson's and Dominic Cooper's characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe - Nick Fury and Howard Stark - had an off-screen correlation separated by different time periods, but conjoined by S.H.I.E.L.D. in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger. This and their admiration of each other's work is why the actors were happy to finally work together in Reasonable Doubt, a crime thriller that released last week. While discussing the film with Fandango, the pair also talked about their Marvel ventures. “It's your gene pool, man – you're Robert Downey's gene pool!” Jackson told Cooper, laughing, suggesting that the English actor should play Howard Stark in more movies. “Without you, there'd be no Downey.” He's likely not in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

“You can't really think too much about – because of so many years and so many fans, you're answering to quite a lot of people's idea of who they expect that person to be,” Cooper said. “Hopefully, they'll work out a way to bring Stark back in somewhere. I don't know how because it was set in the past, but he's a really fun character to play. It's great. He's an old-fashioned playboy.” Cooper also hopes Marvel will develop a story that would allow him to play a scene with Robert Downey Jr. “There's some fun to be had with Howard Stark, there really is.”

Furthermore, Samuel L. Jackson told Fandango that he doesn't know what's in store for Nick Fury after The Avengers: Age of Ultron. “Nope, none whatsoever,” he says happily. “I just know that the Marvel Universe is there, that there are things going on, and that I have three pictures left on my nine-picture deal. That's all I know. I've done six of them, and I'm about to do seven, so I'm running out of Marvel pictures – unless they extend my contract.” Would he be up for nine more films? “Hell, yeah! Why wouldn't I?” he says, as long as the deal is right. What do you think?

After the cataclysmic events in New York with The Avengers, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” finds Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, living quietly in Washington, D.C. and trying to adjust to the modern world. But when a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague comes under attack, Steve becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue that threatens to put the world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow, Captain America struggles to expose the ever-widening conspiracy while fighting off professional assassins sent to silence him at every turn. When the full scope of the villainous plot is revealed, Captain America and the Black Widow enlist the help of a new ally, the Falcon. However, they soon find themselves up against an unexpected and formidable enemy — the Winter Soldier. Starring Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Cobie Smulders, Frank Grillo, Georges St-Pierre, Hayley Atwell, Toby Jones, Emily VanCamp and Maximiliano Hernández with Samuel L. Jackson and Robert Redford, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is directed by the team of Anthony & Joe Russo from a screenplay written by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely and is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series, first published in 1941. Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige is producing the film. Executive producers on the project include Alan Fine, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo and Stan Lee. The creative production team on the film includes director of photography Trent Opaloch, production designer Peter Wenham, editors Jeffrey Ford, A.C.E. and Mary Jo Markey, A.C.E. and three time Oscar®-nominated costume designer Judianna Makovsky. “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is set for release on April 4, 2014.

I like Sam as Nick so hope he stays around for a long time. :D

Cooper I think would be a great replacement for RDJ when the time comes. But I doubt that'll happen.

They can always have him pop up in movies...

And I would like to see a time travel storyline to where Tony and Howard are in the scene together

Bring it on! A lot of characters don't need solo movies (i.e., Hawkeye, Widow, SHIELD, etc.), but a Nick Fury agent movie with Natasha and Clint would be welcomed.

And here's one African American actor all the fanboys are okay with playing a role because technically he's been introduced in the comics as black. Doesn't matter how incredibly recent it was and that Nick Fury has been portrayed as white guy for decades. He's been on the page as black so it's okay.

They should just make a new Fantastic Four run with a black Johnny Storm before the movie comes out. Then everyone will be okay with it!

BTW, love Sam Jackson as Nick Fury. He plays himself but its still awesome.

It's just so cool that he's a comics fan himself, like Hiddleston. Gives their performance a bit of extra punch, like they actually get a kick out of being in superhero movies, and it's not just another job.

So seven is AOU? And another will be Avengers 3, so what's the remaining film? Cap 3? Doesn't seem to matter, looks like he'll sign the deal again

@ thewonderer

the ultimate universe was created in 2000,ultimate nick fury turned up in the ultimates in 2002 & he was made black in that universe because it was an alternative earth.

the marvel cinematic universe is a combination of earth 666 & earth 1610,hence why he is black in the movies.

iron man came out 2008,so he was black in the comics for 6 years.

you need to get over your hatred of the marvel cinematic universe.

Marvel72, you add nothing to my point and prove it further. I don't hate the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I've had my problems with movies and parts of the franchise sure, but I don't hate it.

What I do hate are the biased Marvel fanboys who claim that Marvel Studios is god tier above Fox, Sony, Universal, and Warner Brothers. All of these people claiming that "X-Men, Spider-Man, etc." would definitely be done right at Marvel make me furious. If you want X-Men and Spider-Man in the shared universe fine, but don't have the audacity to claim that Marvel is above making HUGE changes to the source material for their characters.

Just recently, everyone rages on a young Fantastic Four (which ironically enough is actually accurate to Ultimate comics) but an old Hank Pym? No one cares, Marvel is perfect, Fox must be destroyed.
