Last month, the premiere of Marvel's big crossover event 'Avengers versus X-Men', where heroes choose sides in an epic struggle and face off against one another, was able to knock DC out of the top spot, after quite a lengthy run, and it looks like Marvel has done for a second month in a row.

The #1 comic for the month of April was 'Avengers versus X-Men' #2, which sold 158,650 units. This is a bit of a drop from the initial issue, which sold over 200k. 'AvX vs.' #1, which features superhero square offs which didn't make the main title, also made a big splash, cracking the top 5. Marvel held 10 of the Top 20 spots for April, and lead in sales with a 34% dollar share overall.

As for DC, they hold the remainder of the Top 20, with 'Batman' #8 sitting on top as the top selling title for the company, coming in second in overall sales with a reported 130,602 unites sold. This marks the first time in months that the 'Justice League' title wasn't the top seller for DC.

Of note, last month's 'Avengers Assemble' debuted in the top 5 with over 100k in sales. The second issue that came out for April, however, took a nose dive, selling just over 50% of it's predecessor. Positive feedback from the movie will likely boost sales however, and a bump should be seen for the third issue, due out next month.

Overall, sales are up over 16% from April of last year. What do you think? Can AvX keep the top spot, or is DC going to be able to over take them? Sound off below!

The Top 20 comics sold for the month of April are as follows:

158,650- Avengers vs. X-Men #2
130,602- Batman #8
128,991- Justice League #8

Well AvX has been as bad as civil war, characters acting out of character, the continuity between panels has sometimes been strange and inconsistent. I would take a decent story over any of these events any day of the week. After issue 3 I have dropped the AvX event unless I hear something special.

However what I will say the concept for civil was great just poorly done. However that is my opinion and I respect those of differing views.

@Knightrider

I always find it interesting when people say that 'characters acting out of character' in reference to Civil War or AvX.

If anything, history has shown us that Marvel Heroes barely need an excuse to fight or perform the first blow. Civil War and AvX actually give far better reasons for them to come to blows than the reasons of the past.

By the way, I bet Justice League took a dip due to the lack of Jim Lee. His art on the first seven comics were just completely amazing. Also, the story felt pretty pointless.

@Aussyace Pretty sure this is recorded comics sold to US only comic shops. Could be wrong though.

@Danyu agreed Jim Lee has to be my fav at the moment, as for JL first arc it wasn't great but got all the characters together, I have preferred the current arc.

Yeah they come to blows very easily, but thy is because they alter characters reactions so they do punch then ask questions, sometimes, they don't even attack villains as quickly and as rash. Like I said I see why people like civil war it was a great idea, but didn't come off well for me didn't enjoy the read.

What the current Batman, Daredevil and a few others have shown us story always is more enjoyable than just hero A punching hero B.

@Knightrider

So far, I've been really enjoying Batman's leading title and Daredevil has been a nice on-the-street-level take. What comic has probably surprised me the most as of recent though is Batgirl. I'm amazed at how well the story has been.

And yeah, you'll get no argument from me. Sometimes Marvel heroes seem to punch their closest allies quicker than their lifelong villains.

I really think AvX is just about giving fans something. If I had a problem with AvX it would how the tie-in mainstream comics suffer story-wise. Other than that, VS was a nice action-packed fest and AvX, while hasn't been a compelling read, is still interesting.

@Danyu yeah haven't Batgirl but heard some great things about it, I have enjoyed Action Comics, been a while since enjoyed Superman and I know not everyone's cup or tea, but I guess I forgive some of its errors as always loved Supe's.

I am all for big events, in fact Green Lantern, has provided a couple of my recent fav's with Sinestro corps war and blackest night.

Obviously there are classic events like Kree/Skrull war that will always be fond of.

I only have two complaints.

1: The Avengers are acting like a bunch of Fascists. And did they learn nothing from World War Hulk? Lets just shoot our problems into space, then be surprised when they return to earth and want to destroy everything. Think about it. The Avengers want to send Hope offworld, so that she won't bond with the Phoenix on Earth and destroy the planet.

What do they think is going to happen if they do that? The Phoenix will still bond with Hope, and where do you think the first place she goes will be? Earth, her home! Only now she'll be pissed off and carrying around way more power than even the Hulk. Come on...

2: The fight outcomes so far have been BS. Iron Man vs. Magneto. Iron Man won. Come on, Magneto has taken on the entire Avengers by himself a few times, yet he can't beat one member? No way.

Namor vs. Thing. Thing beat Namor...UNDERWATER??? Come on, that speaks for itself. Ridiculous.

Red Hulk vs. Colossonaut. This is the only one I'm kind of okay with, simply because Colossonaut clearly would have stomped the floor with Red Hulk, but he stopped fighting and let Red Hulk in order to keep the support pillars supporting Utopia from being destroyed, which would have made Utopia plunge into the ocean. I get that, okay. But still Colossonaut would rip Red Hulk a new one if it were in different circumstances.

I haven't read this but it's bendis doing Avengers so I know it won't be good.

It's sad that such a quality movie boosts the sales of a crap movie.
