COMICS: Starting In January, THE AVENGERS Goes Weekly For 16-Part "No Surrender" Storyline
Avengers: No Surrender will bring all three current Avengers titles into one to face a threat that spins out of the pages of Marvel Legacy #1. What could this mean for the future of the Avengers?
Currently, there are three ongoing Avengers titles being released by Marvel: Avengers, Uncanny Avengers, and U.S.Avengers, starting in January, fans will see a restructuring of the Avengers line of comics. Avengers #675 is the start of the No Surrender storyline, which sees the three current Avengers titles condensed to one for a weekly 16-part epic that will bring together the cast of all three books to face a threat that spins out of the pages of Marvel Legacy #1.
"The Earth has been stolen! That's the kickoff to the wildest Avengers epic ever put to paper, a widescreen adventure with a massive cast and an unlimited budget, Avengers past and present will be called upon to cope with a threat spanning out of the pages of Marvel Legacy #1 . And like that oversized special, there’s a huge character return or two along the way that fans have been asking for—and one that they didn’t even know they wanted!" said Marvel executive editor Tom Brevoort in a statement.
The series will be written by the current writing teams of the three Avengers titles: Mark Waid, Al Ewing, and Jim Zub, with art by Pepe Larazz for the first month of No Surrender, Kim Jacinto for the second month, and Paco Diaz for the third month.
It is unknown whether Uncanny Avengers or U.S.Avengers will return once the No Surrender storyline concludes, but in an interview with Newsarama, Brevoort describes the storyline as the end of the current incarnation of the team. "I can say pretty definitively that Avengers: No Surrender is designed to create a big, apocalyptic finish for the current incarnation of the team and lead to the next iteration of the Avengers.", Brevoort says.
We still have a couple months to go before the start of No Surrender, in the meantime check out the cover for Avengers #675 by Mark Brooks, and let me know what you think in the comments below!
