COMICS: Concept Art For 3 Characters From THE STAR WARS

Lucas' unproduced screenplay for "The Star Wars" featured Luke Skywalker as an older Jedi General, Han Solo as a Reptilian alien, and another Jedi character named Anakin Starkiller. Now Dark Horse is teaming up with with J.W. Rinzler, executive editor at LucasBooks, and artist Mike Mayhew (Avengers) to adapt the rough-draft original screenplay for an eighth issue series. EW have an in-depth interview with Mike Richardson and Randy Stradley from Dark Horse, in which they ask them all about the project. They also debut the following pieces of concept art.

Stradley gives us an idea of what to expect.

"Visually I think it’s a lot closer to Flash Gordon. There’s still a lot of stuff that will be recognizable as Star Wars, but there are also a lot of different thing. For instance, Luke Skywalker is an older general and, uh, Han Solo is a big green lizard. Wookiees are the ones that lead the attack in the end on the Imperial Battle Station, which is never called the Death Star. Things are different but there are aspects that are the same as well."

starkiller? why would he not be called skywalker?"

Because the characters and their names were not solidified at the time to the ones we now know.

Artwork is solid. Just preliminary sketches, you cant ask too much of something where they are making MULTIPLE choices. I cant believe grif didnt know that the names werent the ones we know now before they were solidified. I knew that since i was like 10 years old.

See that Star Wars was a heavily polished piece after it was out of Lucas' hands early on. It was a fluke that it did so well or got so far with the crappy concepts he came up with / stole.

@grif I guess you could say it's an alternate universe. This will be a comic book adaptation of George Lucas' original idea for Star Wars, which was a similar concept to Flash Gordon and other sci-fi serials.

Hearing "The Star Wars" always reminds me of Chuck Schumer's Meshuggeneh Movie Breakdown Show:

For concept sketches, the art looks fine to me. Actually for artwork in general, it looks good to me, so whatever. I'm looking forward to reading this. The art is actually a drawing card for me on this one but I'm curious how different the original story actually was from what we saw in the movies.
