COMICS: The WILDSTORM Universe Is Returning With Warren Ellis In The Driver's Seat

DC Comics just launched a major salvo. Instead of resting on their laurels after the success of Rebirth, DC just announced that the WildStorm Universe will be returning, with Warren Ellis as overseer.

DC Comics has just made the announcement that Jim Lee's WildStorm Universe is returning, with Warren Ellis plotting the overarching direction of the new line.  Ellis will write the main title of the imprint and oversee general plot threads on spin-off titles.

The flagship title, called The Wild Storm will debut this February, written by Ellis and drawn by Jon Davis-Hunt.

Ellis tells Comicbook.com, "After long reflection, I couldn't turn down the invitation to renovate the house that Jim Lee built, and refit its unique combination of cosmic paranoia and paramilitary conspiracy for the post-political space madness of the twenty-teens.  Looking back to look forward."

In addition to The WildStorm, other titles in the works include Michael Cray, WildC.A.T.S. and Zealot.  The creative teams for these titles have not been announced at this time.

You can check out a few art samples/character studies from Davis-Hunt below.

@LeonardTheWise - I'm skeptical about this who situation, but after just recently reading Planetary, I think they found the right driver for this bus. I hope this goes well. There is a lot of potential here for some great storytelling.

I dont like when they just do imprints. Milestone and Wildstorm should just be fully integrated.

The Coda on Earth couldve been rivals of the Amazons, which wouldve pit Zealot against Diana until she left the Coda. and now they can do team ups but with a really uneasy alliance between Wonder Woman and Zealot due to their pasts.

Milestone characters is a perfect way to have more diversity within the main DC universe without just changing the existing character's race (like Marvel's only way of selling books)

The lack of integration of all thee characters misses a major opportunity, I think.

@Tevii - Disagree. Wildstorm characters in DC were always going to play secondary/supporting roles. In their own universe, they get their proper due.

@MarkJulian - Maybe. But that doesnt have to be. It just depends on the writer.
And Iron Man was a secondary character until the movie came out. Now he's a primary character. Things can always happen that change everything.
BUT I do know what you're saying and it's probably more than likely you're right.
