Is The End Near For The DCCU: A SacDeep Exclusive Editorial

After taking a closer look at the current state of the DCCU it's easy to see how one could feel it's end is near. From panned films to the CW DC seems to be in trouble at every turn.

These guys.... I have never been the biggest DC fan but a part of me would like nothing more than to see a competent well crafted DCU in live action. After all what comic fan didn't grow up with a little Batman, Superman thrown into the mix. And this is what makes it so annoying. DC is pretty much bad as it gets in every sense. What there doing to comics as a whole right now is seriously damaging. Lets be real for a sec. DC is viewed as a joke. China said they wouldn't play Suicide Squad cuz of magic then turned right around and played Doctor Strange. DC got made so much fun of after 2016 due to the poor quality of the DCCU and CWverse I know websites that started so-called new "ban policies" to eliminate what they dubbed as trolling. So many DC fanboys was complaining and threatening to leave websites due to the joke DC had become it literally forced websites to do something about it. Literally the site owner to one of my favorite web sites said "the Marvelites are going bananas on DC fanboys. I'm sick of DC fans threatening to leave the site." Most of this was due to DC's poor performance after 2016. So now on a site where this behavior was OK, and tolerated for 10+ years it suddenly became an issue. To say something negative DC related became taboo. After 2016 grown men took to the internet making youtube videos claiming the illuminati was out to destroy the DCCU. Or Marvel was paying critics to blast DC movies. At this point everything DC does comes off as this giant joke. A pitiful one. So were going to look at some of the negatives of the DCCU and see if this is warrented.

"It's the new Transformers franchise!!" This is regularly said of the DCCU by several critics and fans. If anything this speaks of the lack of substance while having grandiose flair and CGI spectacle. But is this warrented? let's look at MoS. DC WAS CLEARLY LOST!! Oh man.... the 52% RT is. not. hyperbole. No conspiracy here folks. It's the most dry, bland, pitiful emo version of Superman you'll ever see. All of are fears came to life watching that movie. Zack Snyder made a film that was all flash no substance. We knew this was how it would turn out but we kept a little hope Zack would do something different this time. But no. The masses refuse to be swayed by probably one of the most ugly movies I've seen simply because Superman finally threw a punch. I think it's cute when DC fans say "MoS is one of the most divisive cbms of all time." No it's not. That just means a handful of DC faithful refuses to recognize the many faults of the film. Insisting it's divisive cuz they lack objectivity. But really MoS came off wretched. No conspiracy. The characters didn't even really talk to each other but AT each other. totally devoid of life and failed to strike the proper lightening to drive a shared universe. Doomed from the start. also Henry Cavill is probably the most wooden actor of all time and Amy Adams was totally wrong from the start. MoS made only 40mil profit putting it at the bottom of Deadlines and Variety's cbm profit list. Which brings to mind another complaint I have with DC. Arrogance. Studio always talking about how iconic and great they are only to be destroyed by a film they called "flavor of the week," Ant-man. Which went on to make 103mil in profit and got it's sequel fast tracked to 2018 while MoS's is still in limbo. Ant-man is literally the more profitable franchise. Wow....just wow.

But guess what? This was the high point of the DCCU. Let's look at BvS.

"It's the new Phantom Menace." Another often used quote from critics. Literally the biggest disappointment and under performer of all time. It proves DC had zero direction or plan going into the DCCU. It came off as a desperate jumbled mess of images with a total lack of coherency or ability to tell a proper story. Completely ruined the long standing methos of every character involved while introducing the most awfully casted roles of all time. Ben Affleck's Batman was about bad as it gets. One tracked, gruff voiced, murderer who often appeared under the influence of drugs, alcohol or both. Turns out he was. But that's another story. Probably the poor performance of the DCCU and how it nearly thrust him back to being a joke that drove him to the bottle. Even his fight scenes are totally overrated. The warehouse scene is probably the most crap overly fantastical fight ever. And don't even get me started on Ms. "I'll be back"(in Schwarzenegger voice) Gal Gadot. I'll never understand for the life of me why they choose some back ground eye candy from a F&F movie to play WW of all characters. the WW movie is practically doomed already cuz this chick can't act to save her life. she's almost OK long as she just sits there and frowns. But soon as she opens her mouth tho... oh...oh god. I've heard of killing a line before but with this chick it's line genocide. Like, lines tell there kids horror stories of Gal around camp fires. She completely looks wrong for the part as well. I felt like her inclusion in BvS was the most forced attempt ever. Cash grab plain and simple. Along with the rest of the awful cameos of other heroes. Just every decision baffled me. It's no surprise this film crash and burned like it did. It underperformed by hundreds of millions and became the biggest joke of 2016. Literally.

"It's the new Twilight franchise" shouted critics speaking of the worse cbm since Catwoman....Suicide Squad. Just oh....just oh man! Still in shock at how bad this movie was. DC/WB was completely lost. This is fact by the way. After BvS crashed DC heads panicked and literally...get this, they literally brought in the team that made the SS trailer to reedit a once serious film into a comedy. This is a testament to how crap of a joke DC has become. This really happened, probably the only time in film history. DC/WB is just that lost and pathetic right now. the movie had zero class. I personally don't like punk movies and the first third of SS felt like I was watching a run of bad music videos on MTV. OH MY GOD! I don't even know what to say about DC right now. They are sooooooooo bad. Like I've never liked the FOXverse. Never. But guess what? the FOX-men come off like Oscar nominated films when compared to the DC live action TV or film. Everything about SS was just the worse. no conspiracy here folks. This is what happens when you have no plan. Just trying to play catch up. Throwing crap at a wall trying to see what sticks. Everything about this movie was the worse. There's no point in pointing out any one thing. Complete lack of direction and story telling.

DC/WB is....nothing. It's just a failed cash grab. They went into this with no plan trying to catch up to Marvel. AND IT'S OBVIOUS. I don't like how it's turning into the Batman cinematic universe either. At this point they know they failed. there seemingly fast tracking it to becoming a BCU hoping it somehow saves the brand. But this is the worse thing they could do. The Lego Batman movie just flopped. It only made 300mil ww. I think it's Batman fatigue. This puts DC in a funny spot because they have no idea what to do other than Batman but that comes with the risk of burning out Batman.

So DC is now in a awful spot trying to bluff investors into funding DC projects. But no one will get near them cuz they view them as a death sentence for there money. Think about it. DC has more announced movies than any other studio proving they want to do something bad, right? But there having all the problems in the world trying to get another film to be released along side Aquaman in 2018. Think about it. Do you really think if an investor was sitting there with 300mil in cash waiting to green light one of these movies any thing could keep it from being made? nope. all the talk of waiting on the right script or trying to find the right director is just distraction from the fact the DCCU is already failing.

There's nothing to see here people. the DCCU has factually, objectively got to be the biggest joke of all time. The CW is just as bad. Cheap, uninspired tripe in separate universes. Don't know about you guys but DC is completely off my radar. I won't be seeing WW or JL this year.

@69sacDeep

Nope, it is the DCEU not DCCU

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DC_Extended_Universe

(Though honestly it would make more sense if it was the MEU and DCCU)

This article is mostly opinion, without really anything backing it up.

It really does appear that DC/WB is listening to the critics though, so lets wait and see.

This is a terrible article. Almost all opinion. Just looks like a marvel fan boy complaining bc DC got a little attention. Are the movies perfect? No but they aren't bad either. I enjoy watch Mos and the extended version of BvS. I think DCEU's biggest mistake is the same thing they messed up with N52 and fixed with Rebirth. They brought back, love, relationships, humor, and legacy. Adding more of these things will certainly make the movies better.

@DeGraaf - "They brought back, love, relationships, humor, and legacy."

Spot on. In other words, "Character"

But like you say, the films aren't as terrible as most would have you believe.
