Can you imagine the same actor who wore Superman's cape now donning the Dark Knight mask? Well, that's exactly what Tyler Hoechlin has confessed, and he wasn't joking. The stars of the series Superman and Lois surprised everyone at FAN EXPO Canada by stating that, if it were up to them, they would love to be the next Batman in the DCU.

The confession caught many off guard because, of course, we're talking about someone who has embodied DC's brightest hero and now dreams of becoming his darker counterpart. And the best part: he said it with a smile, but made it clear it wouldn't just be a passing fancy.

Tyler Hoechlin opens the door to Batman

During the event, Tyler Hoechlin was asked the eternal question: could Robert Pattinson share a universe with David Corenswet's new Superman? His answer was sincere and direct:

"Well, selfishly, I'm going to say no, because I still want to play Batman. I think Rob did a fantastic, fantastic job, and alongside Matt Reeves, it was great. So I'm happy for them to continue on, but maybe the door is open for a new take on Batman vs. Superman."

With these words, Tyler Hoechlin not only praised Robert Pattinson's work but also gave a nod to James Gunn and all of DC Studios. A "I'm here if you want to call me," delivered with style.

From TV Superman to Batman wannabe

For those unaware: Tyler Hoechlin debuted as Superman in the second season of Supergirl. What seemed like a one-off cameo ended up becoming a recurring role throughout the Arrowverse, until Warner Bros. entrusted him with the role of starring in his own series, Superman & Lois

The CW production became one of the biggest hits in the DC television universe, and although it's now over, Tyler Hoechlin's character has earned a place in viewers' hearts. Now, with that phase over, the actor is looking to new horizons. And what better way to dream than by becoming Batman.

?ames Gunn and the challenge of Batman in the DCU

The curious thing is that James Gunn himself had recently spoken about how difficult it is to find the right version of Batman. The director made it clear:

"Batman is my biggest challenge at all of DC right now. I'm not writing it, but I'm working with the Batman writer to get it right, because it's essential to DC, just like Wonder Woman."

The filmmaker also insisted that The Brave and the Bold is still in the works, although there is still a long way to go before the project becomes a reality:

"Batman can't exist just because he's Warner Bros.' biggest character. He has to have a reason to be in the DCU, and not be exactly like Matt Reeves' Batman."

In other words, the suit is still in the closet, waiting for the right actor.

Could Tyler Hoechlin be that Batman?

The idea doesn't sound as far-fetched as it might seem. Tyler Hoechlin has already proven he can carry the weight of an iconic character and make it his own. Going from Superman to Batman would be a curious twist, but also a golden opportunity to explore the contrast between light and darkness in the same actor.

Plus, audiences already associate him with DC, which makes the transition easier. And although the people behind The Brave and the Bold haven't officially opened casting yet, Tyler Hoechlin has already made his way onto the media's mental shortlist, alongside names like Jensen Ackles and Brandon Sklenar.

DC's immediate future and rumors

Between delays, changes of plans, and constant rumors, James Gunn's DCU continues to generate headlines. Superman (2025) will kick off the new era in theaters, but there are still many unknowns surrounding The Brave and the Bold and who will inherit the Dark Knight's legacy.

What's clear is that Tyler Hoechlin doesn't want to be left out of the game. With his statements, he's gotten us talking about him at a key moment, when DC Studios is defining the future of its two mainstays: Superman and Batman.

A Superman who wants to be Batman

Tyler Hoechlin's bid to play Batman is as unexpected as it is fascinating. The actor has already conquered television as Superman, and now he's looking to test himself in the darker, more challenging DC universe.

Will he get the chance? Nobody knows yet. But one thing is certain: in the new era of the DCU, any surprise is possible. And the thought of seeing Hoechlin face off against himself in a future Batman vs. Superman is reason enough to stay tuned.
