Whilst Avengers: Age of Ultron has largely divided fans, one aspect of the film that most can agree was spot on was Paul Bettany's portrayal of The Vision. The 'son' of the maniacal robot Ultron, The Vision is a staple member of the Avengers, and has been a regular member of the team over the years. But despite his popularity, the character has mostly been featured in either Avengers comics or in team-ups with other heroes, with only the occasional solo adventure here and there. Well, that's all about to change, as Marvel have just annoucned that the android Avenger will get a new ongoing comic series as part of Marvel's All-New, All-Different comic relanuch in the autumn of this year!
The series, simply entitled The Vision, will be written by Tom King, who has previously worked on comic series Grayson for DC, and drawn by Gabriel Hernandez Walta, who has worked with Marvel before on comics such as Astonishing X-Men and Magneto. The story is said to follow Vizh as he attempts to live a normal life, in a very literal sense. He creates a robot wife, Virginia, and two robot twin children, Viv and Val. They move to the suburbs of Washington DC, Vision gets a job, the kids go to school and attempt to live a normal life. But, of course, something goes wrong, and King promises that what goes wrong will 'shake the Marvel Universe'.
King has stated that the series will take the character 'back to basics'. 'With some apologies to the great Donna Troy, this character has one of the most complicated and perhaps convoluted histories in comics.' King cites the character's numerous 'deaths' and his complicated history with Scarlet Witch, before going on to say: 'With this series we're going to strip all that noise away and return to the simple, sweet and amazingly compelling set up Roy Thomas (the character's creator) first gave the character: a robot built to be a weapon, who wants to be a hero. He's the powerful stranger who for some flattering reason wants to be like us. Vision is Data. Vision is Spock. Vision is Superman. Vision is who I was, the geek trying to fit in, realising I never will, and realising that that ain't all bad.' What do you think? The Vision will hit shelves this October.
