POLL: Would You Like To See Marvel "Pull A DC" And Relaunch Their Comic Universe?

We're just a couple of days away from the relaunch of the DC Universe with 52 new #1 issues, so now seems like a good time to ask whether or not you guys would like Marvel to do the same! Here's your chance to decide...

The upcoming relaunch of the DC universe has been met with criticism and praise in equal measure. Many are glad that they'll be erasing much of the convoluted continuity, while other longtime fans are livid at some of the changes this will result in. (Oracle once again donning the mantle of Batgirl for example) Recently though, and since the reboot that's not really a reboot was announced, there's been some talk about whether or not Marvel should do the same. Many quite rightly point out that Marvel will be keeping a very close eye on how all this works for DC, while they've surely noticed the huge amount of orders for Justice League #1. But what do you guys think? Should they "pull a DC" and reboot the MU?! Here's your chance to decide...

Yes but not an Ultimate just an update. The story lines have become too scrambled for my taste. Far to many deaths then rebirths etc.

As long as they dont do it to the Mainstream 616 universe.
If it happens in the Ultimate universe, i dont give a shit. LOL

Oh god I bet you've jinxed it now Josh! Some Marvel/Disney exec will be rubbing his hands together in a business-like fashion. No! Keep the old Mainstream 616 universe and if they must, make a new updated one and not screw it up like they did with the Ultimate universe.

No, that would be an awful idea.

I'd prefer to wait and see how DC does. If that succeeds, I wouldn't say no to Marvel doing so.

maybe if they just adapt their old and classic storylines but with modern artwork and a little rewrite here and there, but not a reboot.
AC1
AC1 - 8/29/2011, 3:26 PM
no way, i mean I wouldnt mind them updating some of the origins similar to how Batman Year One did, but nothing that makes it a complete reboot.
If they must do anything, maybe just remake their origins but make them modern, instead of 60s esque. Although it can be argued that DC's characters were invented by various artists/writers so it has less of an impact than updating Marvel would, since the majority of Marvel characters were created by Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko and Stan Lee.

Yes and no.

Yes to everything Joe, Loeb, and bendis did that was HORRIBLE but everything else... I dunno.

It would be cool if they did something similar to Crisis on Infinite Earths from DC where is was still a continuing story but they reset the universe in more of a organizing way.

Doesn't everyone know that Marvel is already perfect. Unless they are trying to attract consumers who can only use their hands to count, there would be no reason to reboot the MCU.

no way,its completely unnecesscary.

if they wanted to attract new readers they should of just done an ultimate dc universe.they could end up losing loyal readers just to gain a handful of new ones.

Marvel already is doing the same thing, just a bit slower. Look at all the number-rebooting of established titles that they have done in recent months, or are planning in the months ahead. It's like the nineties all over again, but with a lot fewer sales.

@ romack

thats all i buy nowadays trades, hard cover & omnibus.is cheaper & a good way to read a complete story all at once than waiting month after month to just read the next part.

marvel doesnt need a reboot but they do need to start a day and date digital comics iniative like DC. Thats where the industry is heading.
MarkJulian

I think the big thing is whether DC's digital release initiative works. As the industry has gone from millions of copies sold a month per issue to a few hundred thousand, it needs to keep up with the digital age.

i'm not ready to go digital,i like the feeling of holding a book in my hands & turning the pages.i'm very old school when it comes to reading comics.

Umm they did this 11 years ago with Ultimates, So really DC is 11 years too late with a reboot. This 52 thing is just DC being 11 years too late. The are basically ripping off Ultimates. Giving Superman and Batman a different time line and doing all new stories with out being bogged down by currunt storylines. Getting rid of alot of books that don't make any money.
CherryBomb
CherryBomb - 8/29/2011, 4:15 PM
Yes!
They've had some messes that have really annoyed me,

like the mess with House of M, depowering thing, it seemed like a good concept, but fell short.

the Scarlet Witch being overly-powerful annoyed me, keep it simple!

and of course Jean Grey - dead - alive - dead- alive thing annoyed me, separate her from the Phoenix, let her be her own character then it'll be perfect <3
Greengo
Greengo - 8/29/2011, 4:15 PM
I think digital would be an interesting format because there's so much you could do with it.
Maybe incorporate minor animation to the story line.

I don't think its needed. We already have a new MIXED SPIDERMAN IN THE ULTIMATES UNIVerse! What else do they need to do? Just keep like it is!

Marvel resets there comics to #1 all the time! They just do it for no reason instead of coming up with a reason like dc did for flashpoint

X-Men is a perfect example of why they need a reboot. Their continuity has gotten completely out of hand since the days when Marvel realized that they had a gold mine with Claremont's X-Men and started spinning off titles to cash in.

Then there is the death of Spider-Man or not, One Day, etc, etc, etc.

Gigacrusher45's idea of a Crisis on Infinite Earths reorganization could work, too.

Marvel had John Byrne reboot Spider-Man in 1999...people forget this because the next year is when the Ultmate line came out, which was a half-assed reboot of their main universe.

Marvel's continuity is muddled - Spider-Man has been put through the ringer (in multiple crappy ways) and so have the X-Men. Like CB mentioned above, Jean Grey dies and comes back every 10 minutes. Every creative team changes the line up and the costumes and the status quo...Not to mention the Avengers...Cap Wolf? Teenage Tony Stark? Thunderstrike? Frank Castle was in Vietnam. Shouldn't he be like 70 by now? Marvel could use a streamlining. Say what you want about DC but they had the balls to reboot their entire universe, not just put out a side project where they can keep the old and the new.

@MARVEL72
I AGREE...NO TO DIGITAL COMICS I STILL HAVE SOME OLD BACK ISSUES THAT I LIKE TO LOOK BACK ON. NOTHING LIKE HAVING THE COMIC ITSELF IN THE PALM OF YOUR HAND. AS FAR AS REBOOTING MARVEL... THEY DON'T NEED TO, MARVEL'S CHARACTERS HAS ALWAYS ADAPTED OVER THE YEARS. BESIDES ANY DRAMATIC CHANGE TO ANY OF THE CHARACTERS ARE IN THE UNIVERSE.
