Tired of status quo changing events? Tough luck, because next up for Marvel is Secret Empire from writer Nick Spencer and artists Steve McNiven and Andrea Sorrentino. The nine issue series kicks off in May with a #0 issue going on sale the month before, and it promises to bring the past year or so's Captain America stories to a head as the Hydra controlled Steve Rogers finally unleashes his plans.

"Steve has been kind of lining his dominoes up around the Marvel Universe to be able to make his move and bring about a Hydra revolution, a takeover," says Tom Brevoort. "At the point of ‘Secret Empire,’ they are ready to go. That’s the moment we hit as we go in. We are done with the covert portion, the buildup portion of the program, ‘Secret Empire’ if the pyrotechnics, the big Michael Bay blockbuster, huge colossal struggles and battles across the Marvel Universe, with all of our key characters and players taking on a big role." The plus side to this is that it will unite the heroes.

Secret Empire will apparently have major ramifications for the future, and with Captain America supported by S.H.I.E.L.D., Hydra, and a Chitauri army, it's no wonder that everyone in the Marvel Universe will have to assemble against him. The big question is whether or not he'll return to his old self by the time all is said and done. Fingers crossed, but Axel Alonso had this to say about the story.

"We’ve just come off of ‘Civil War 2’ and ‘Inhumans vs. X-Men,’ two big, dark events that had heroes fighting against heroes, over somewhat defensible positions. This is very much more an old school story. You will know who the good guys are and who the bad guys are. This is not heroes fighting heroes, this is heroes fighting a bad guy. We saw this moment as our chance to rally the entire Marvel Universe, which has been fragmented of late. We saw this as the rallying cry, where we could have everyone — Avengers, Guardians, Defenders, X-Men, Spider-Man, Deadpool — all rally against this thing and unify the universe into the future."

@TrueMarvel - you say that like it's a bad thing. I like Captain Marvel, and I'm glad to see her in the forefront.

@CavalierTunes - before civil war II, I would have agreed. Before they masculinized her i would have strongly agreed.

Its interesting that they are specifically mentioning characters that are very big in the movie and TV universe right now...

Avengers, Guardians, Defenders, X-Men, Spider-Man, Deadpool

Could we see the same thing happen in those universes too??

@TrueMarvel - What do you mean by "masculinized"? I assume you mean Captain Marvel's new haircut and costume. Is there a problem with that?

I don't read Marvel anymore, and haven't really read them in 30 years...but it seems like they're always jumping from giant event to giant event...and then to an event that undoes both of those.

@LordHarryLatts - they've got a few good series that are good when they're sort of separate from this. When they're focusing on their solo thing.

Black Panther, Black Widow, Moon Knight, Old Man Logan just to name a few.

@LordHarryLatts - @ComicsBornAndBred is correct. Some of the smaller titles have been stellar.

@ComicsBornAndBred - I've actually read Old Man Logan..but it's Moon Knight that I'd like to make some time for one day.

@LordHarryLatts -

Spencer's run on Cap has been great.

@LordHarryLatts - Yeah it's getting annoying. Also after every event most titles will be cancelled and re-numbered as #1 a month after the event has ended which is a stupid idea. It can be very confusing for people who are trying to get into Marvel comics when there is already 30 issue #1's of Avengers, Spider-Man, X-Men,etc.

Another important quote:

"This is very much more an old school story. You will know who the good guys are and who the bad guys are. This is not heroes fighting heroes, this is heroes fighting a bad guy… We saw this moment as our chance to rally the entire Marvel Universe, which has been fragmented of late."

Thank. God.
