Tonight's episode was great, even better than the pilot IMO. This is a show I really think I'm going to end up loving.

I wish they kept Liz instead of bringing in Zed. I didn't like her much.

Much better than the pilot. It felt EXACTLY like a Hellblazer comic.

I'm so excited for this show. It improved exponentially from episode 1 to episode 2 and it matches the comic so well. Zed annoyed me at times, but other times (when she pickpocketed Constantine, when she tried to kick him out, when she saved his life) I found her awesome, and unlike Liv, she brings out the "con" in Constantine. And I laughed out loud when Constantine called himself an "occasional dabbler in the dark arts." Nice way of preserving some form of stability in an otherwise unstable show. I was also pleased to see the couple having sex in the church. A common theme in Hellblazer was that you'd look at the world Constantine navigated and people were so terrible that it made you wonder WHY Constantine was trying to save mankind and dispel evil. Glad to see that's alive in this show, too.

Matt Ryan hasn't completely transformed into Constantine yet for me, but I can tell he intellectually knows Constantine's mannerisms. It's just a matter of making those mannerisms become his own, and he's done that a fair bit, but other times, I could see the wheels turning in his head, and it made it awkward (the way he sat in that chair when he and Zed confronted that one guy... that was absolutely how Constantine would sit, but Matt didn't do it in a natural way). I think it's just a matter of time, so I'm being patient. The important thing is he knows this character.

Even though The Flash feels like a more natural, organically put-together show (I'd say it's the best live action comic show), I'm gravitating more toward Constantine. I think it's because Constantine doesn't need to drop a bunch of Easter eggs all the time because much of its demo hasn't read the comics (sadly), so this show can focus on finding its footing primarily. And it is just so much like the comics. Can't wait for Papa Midnite!

The fun thing is finding the Vertigo easter eggs. The apt that Zed had was full of easter eggs. Upcoming bodguys, Hellblazer cover art. This just goes to prove that very few people actually read Hellblazer.
