Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista has been doing the rounds to promote Army of the Dead, and the subject of Bane has come up a lot. The actor is clearly keen on bringing that iconic Batman villain to the big screen, and has confirmed that he pitched the idea to Warner Bros. not too long ago.
Unfortunately, when Bautista elaborated on his meeting with the studio during a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, it became clear that a leap to the DC Extended Universe simply isn't on the cards for him.
"I had a meeting with DC at Warner Bros. It was kind of a general meeting about what their slate was, and I said, ‘I want to know what’s going on with Bane and whether you guys have any plans for Bane. I want to play Bane. I think I’d do the character justice. I think people want to see Bane and I think it’s a really interesting character. I’d like to shed a different light on the character.’ And they said, ‘We don’t have plans for that.’" he explained.
"And I was like, ‘Ah, okay.’ So I was mentioned for a couple other parts, but they were shot down, not by myself, for one reason or another. And then life moves on."
Clearly, Bautista and Warner Bros. couldn't come to an agreement regarding which character he could play in the DCEU, and with Bane off the table, that would seem to be the end of that. Things could change down the line, of course, but for now, the pro wrestler turned actor will be focusing on concluding Drax's story in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (which he seems very keen to do).
While it's a shame WB has nothing lined up for Bane, looking ahead to the current DC slate, it's impossible to imagine where that Batman baddie could factor into the studio's plans.
