JUSTICE LEAGUE Director Zack Snyder Was Reportedly Fired From DC Films

While it was widely rumored at the time, it appears as though we now have confirmation that Zack Snyder was indeed fired from DC Films and that it was not a mutual breakup between him and the studio.

Last night, former Variety and Mashable editor Josh L. Dickey, who is leaving entertainment journalism for greener pastures, shared a very interesting nugget on his personal Twitter account that offers a great deal of insight into what was really going on at Warner Bros. and DC Films for the better part of last year.

According to Dickey, divisive director Zack Snyder, who helmed Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League, was actually relieved of his duties at DC Films a few months prior to publically announcing his departure from Justice League in May. He doesn't provide any further details but does imply that, at this time last year, he wasn't allowed to share what he knew.

This new revelation does essentially confirm what was widely rumored for the better part of last year as several online outlets have strongly suggested that the split between DC Films and Zack Snyder wasn't as amicable as many were led to believe. It also explains why there hasn't been any traction on a "Snyder Cut" of Justice League since a Snyder-approved version probably doesn't exist if he were let go three months before it became public knowledge.

Snyder is still listed as an executive producer on several upcoming DC Films, including Aquaman, Wonder Woman 2, and Suicide Squad 2 something unlikely to change considering the role he played in casting Gal Gadot and Jason Momoa - but a credit is likely the extent of his involvement.

Check out his tweet below:

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League features:
Directors: Zack Snyder & Joss Whedon
Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman

He might have given me MoS which I love, and then BvS which I absolutely hated, but I always understood that he was sacked, they were just using the whole mutual agreement thing because it's polite.

A Director who is very hit or miss for me, but I hope he one day does a movie that is not a comic movie, to show his talent and perhaps it will work more as it wouldn't have any pre-existing following.

@SimplyAz - poor management by wb is to blame here. they should have let him finish justice league then reboot if they didn't like the results. to fire a director during post is the most ridiculous choice to make. this just shows you that wb is doomed to fail and, ultimately, dc rights will be sold to disney. then we'll get the watered down dc films everyone wants. and a version of this, but where everyone lives.

At this point this shit is just tiring.
And honestly it's also became an unpleasant subject seeing what happened to his family.
Believe what you want to believe, but let's move on now.

@Doomsday8888 - What really surprises me is that they are considering keeping Ayer. I get Snyder is divisive even if I don't like the decision, but Ayer is visibly not good from every point of view (I mean, one of the people I follow on youtube used Suicide Squad as a prime example of bad editing, not regarding cut scenes mind you but of how single shots are put together to form one) at least for these movies.

@Doomsday8888 - I mean: it's almost a given that people like Raimi, Del Toro or Burton like them or not can't get to finish their trilogies or not quite the way they wanted, after a while (and I concur with you on this) it's just tiring, but seeing people like Ayer, Akiva Goldsman and Berlanti still keeping their jobs is frustrating.

@Doomsday8888 - Amen. Don't really care if he was fired or not. Just feel awful for him and his family. The douhce reporting this (not CBM, rather the guy on twitter) needs to stfu. Everyone knew Snyder was fired when it happened, it just didn't matter because he needed to spend time with his family regardless.

Not sure why some idiot is bringing this up after the fact. It adds nothing to the narrative and looks incredibly disrespectful.

@Doomsday8888 - I believe he got fired much earlier but he used his daughter's death in his personal statement so he doesn't get much backlash from fans.

@FrobisherSays - because there were people out there who didn't know he got fired.
