How Is Josh Brolin Able To Play Cable In DEADPOOL 2 And Thanos In AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR?
Josh Brolin playing Cable and Thanos in such close proximity is a surprise, especially given the apparent rivalry between Marvel Studios and Fox. Deadpool 2 director David Leitch explains how it happened.
Josh Brolin was still shooting Avengers: Infinity War when he was cast as Cable in Deadpool 2 and considering the fact we've heard so much about Marvel Studios' non-compete clauses in the contracts they get actors to sign, the news came as a massive surprise at the time. Regardless, 2018 will now see the actor suit up as both Thanos and Nathan Summers but how exactly did that come to pass?
There could be any number of explanations, including some sort of deal similar to the one Marvel made with Fox for Deadpool. For that, they allowed the studio to change Teenage Negasonic Warhead's powers in exchange for being allowed to put Ego the Living Planet in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 so perhaps letting Brolin play Cable is what led to Skrulls appearing in Captain Marvel!
That's possible, but Deadpool 2's David Leitch says both studios decided it was best for business.
"I think everybody in sort of the Marvel and Fox world considered it, and they take their time and make measured moves. But I think everyone thought it was prudent and was okay in terms of the way Thanos is portrayed and Cable is portrayed. They’re very different in styles, and in terms of the way they are presented in the movies, obviously. We couldn’t have cast a better Cable. We were filming last night and both of them were on set, and the chemistry is amazing. It’s such a fun movie to be on. I’m really grateful."
This explanation also makes sense, as Brolin appearing in these movies probably helps them both in the long run. They're also two very different characters with little to nothing in common so it's not like he's taking on the roles of Bruce Wayne and Tony Stark! Who are you most excited to see him play?
