DEADPOOL Director Tim Miller Addresses His Departure From The Sequel; "Don’t Believe What You Read"

We've heard from Ryan Reynolds, but now director Tim Miller has opened up about leaving the Deadpool sequel, debunking a number of rumours and weighing in on the man who has been chosen to replace him.

One of the most upsetting news stories of 2016 has to be the fact that Tim Miller will no longer take the helm of Deadpool 2. It was a decision made due to reported creative differences between the filmmaker and Ryan Reynolds, and there have since been reports that it came down to Miller wanting to increase the budge by as many as three times and his desire to cast Bloodline's Kyle Chandler as Cable. However, in a recent Q&A (via Collider), Miller decided to clear things up about his departure.

"I just want to say one thing to the geek audience out there, because it’s important to me what the geeks and nerds of the world think because they are my brothers and sisters. I didn’t want to make some stylized movie that was 3 times the budget. If you read the internet — who cares, really? But for those of you who do, I wanted to make the same kind of movie that we made before because I think that’s the right movie to make for the character. So don’t believe what you read on the internet. I wanted to do the same thing [as the first movie]. Kyle Chandler was not going to be Cable. All this stuff that I read kind of kills me."

That's fair enough, but it's interesting that Miller doesn't actually offer any specific reasons for why he left the project; he just debunks some of the reports which have been doing the rounds online lately.

Perhaps it really was just a case of creative differences, especially as Reynolds has previously said that there were some "very, very difficult" times on set and "scary fights in the post-production process." Miller however had nothing but good things to say about the experience and his recent replacement.

"Even when some people go, “The movie was really hard to make.” The movie was a joy to make. I think you see it on screen. We all had such a good time. We had a few arguments in post, but nothing more than usual. The crew was so great, everybody was going to come back and we were going to have such a good time and the idea that it was a difficult movie…It wasn’t, it was a joy, and it was the best experience of my life. I wish them nothing but good — I hope it’s great. I hope it’s e a great movie. Because I love the character and I think it’s great, and I love all the actors and I want to see them successful again. I haven’t met David, but he’s a great guy from everything I’ve heard. I want nothing but the best for the character. And for Fox, too. They deserve to make more money. They need to make more money [laughs]. They were great. They were terrific."

What do you guys think of these comments from Miller? As always, let us know your thoughts below.

Clearly he has other things he could say, but he's taking the high road.

Well, now i am worried about the movie. I had heard Ryan wanted to keep it low budget but now from this article it sounds like Miller wanted to keep it same as before and i can only assume others did not.
So are we stuck with it not being low budget and not like before?
Are they really going to screw up this franchise too?

@JonC - His overpraising comments get repetitive in his quote, which seems to suggest to me some insincerity, but covering his ass all the same. Hard to tell in just text.

@MosquitoFarmer -

I can't believe people actually bought the story that he somehow lost his mind and original plans and wanted to do a bloated movie that cost three times as much as the previous. Why would he refuse to create a movie in the same way he did before when it was a mega-hit?

It was so obviously a cover and it happens all the time.

It's like when we get some info that [insert whatever movie] is going to need re-shoots to tone it down or make it comical.

The director comes out and says "nope, I just wanted to re-shoot certain things" and the fans are like "SEE, it's not what you thought, the director said so!" then we watch the movie and it's clear darker stuff was cut and it's a edited confusing and goofy junk pile.

Don't believe everything someone hired by a studio says.
"Creative differences" is just a go-to excuse.

I personally believe Ryan is the studio's fall-guy and this has everything to do with FOX's meddling.

Did it ever REALLY make sense that the director suddenly wanted to spend-spend-spend, wanted a bigger production and refused to compromise on casting when he did the opposite with the first film?

I mean...why would he even do that? Sabotage his own film and the recipe that made it a succsess?

When this story came out I said it was nonsense and a smokescreen but these guys have to work so they normally go along with whatever their employers tell them to.

Miller got pushed out.
It's been clear from day-one.

This is FOX's meddling and it was inevitable.

@Humperdink - People jump to the wildest conclusions based on what is usually false speculation for the sake of attention. It gets so annoying. News used to only be delivered (ideally) when there were facts.

I believe Tim Miller got screwed over by Reynolds here. Reynolds got power hungry.

Tim Miller is a phenomenal director. He has directed the greatest video game trailers of all time. Miller has managed to make Star Wars far more epic in the span of multiple 5 minute trailers than all 7 films so far. I'll watch anything he does in the future.

@Kr08 - You don't know that.

@Kr08 - Thank you.

I know everyone says they're a Star Wars fan, but I really am. I have around 200 novels and pretty much every decent comic-book story done since 1993. I've also been playing Star Wars TCGs and tabletop RPGs for the past 20 years or so. And I had never seen this trailer before.

It is literally the best Star Wars video I've ever seen. The first 3 minutes show how the dark side truly works better than any video material I've ever seen, including all movies. And that fight scene on the bridge, under the rain, might also be the best fight scene in Star Wars history, even though it's only 30 seconds long. Unbelievable. I'd pay anything to watch 2 hours of this.

What is that Eternal Throne thing, though, a KOTOR expansion? The young girl looks like Kreya, a little. Thanks again, you, sir, made my day.

Direct Justice League 2 or Green Lanterns Corps.
Still want Brad Bird for MOS2, mainly as I think he can give Superman his humanity after BVS.

I can see Miller directing The Flash. Could you imagine those action sequences with Miller's expertise on visual fx? It would be mind blowing.

Would be a good shout and interesting choice. Hopefully with him working on DC and Star Wars games he would like to do another Superhero film.

He's definitely taking the high road, good for him. He made a great movie and he's gunna have a solid career. Deadpool 2 is in goo hands still. I was actually pretty excited about Chandler being Cable, I think he'd do great
