Hugh Jackman Responds To Ryan Reynolds' Recent Comments About A DEADPOOL/WOLVERINE Team-Up

Deadpool 2 star Ryan Reynolds recently revealed that he's still trying to convince Hugh Jackman to reprise the role of Wolverine and now the Australian actor has responded! Hit the jump for his thoughts.

The future of the Deadpool franchise may be in doubt due to the planned Disney/Fox merger but Ryan Reynolds clearly isn't going to stop trying to convince Hugh Jackman to reprise the role of Wolverine. The actor "retired" from the role after starring in Logan but as great as that movie was, fans can't help but be disappointed about never truly getting to see these two fan-favourite characters cross paths.

In fact, it was only last week that the actor talked about getting Jackman to return as Wolverine and Jackman has now jokingly responded by suggesting that Reynolds needs to stop trying to hard!

"I might just have a little message for Ryan," he says in the video below when asked about this possible team-up. "I love you, man. I love Deadpool. I can’t wait to see the movie. You’re one of my best friends. Blake, the fam, the whole thing. But back it up a little. Play a little hard to get. It’s too much; it’s not sexy." The question now is, will we ever get to see these two share the screen?

Sadly, it seems unlikely but if anyone can help make it happen, it's Reynolds. After all, we never expected Deadpool to become a reality and one leaked video later, it ended up breaking records.

@mastakilla39 - DP refuses to believe that he's NOT Wolverine, so he stabs him a few times...and kills Hugh Jackman.

I think they are waiting to see if Deadpool comes across with Disney, they will do their own thing. If however it does not and X Force is the final Fox Deadpool film, then why not give us Hugh Jackman back as Wolverine and in Costume!!

I still wanna see Deadpool incorporated into the MCU somehow which would mean no to Jackman/Wolverine cameo. Plus it'd undercut the amazing ending Logan provided. They could always have Hugh cameo as himself though, that'd be fun.

@AC1 - i don't see how it would undercut Logan's ending if it takes place in the present, ten years before Logan takes place.

@Termin8er - as it stands, Hugh Jackman left the role with a powerful performance in a tragic film. It was the perfect end for the character and also for his tenure in the role, and from an audience perspective our last time seeing the character was in Logan.

If he came back for a Deadpool movie, while it might be fun, it means Hugh's last performance would be just another appearance as Wolverine, and not the end of the character's story.

If it was a tiny cameo (like First Class) then that could work, but I'd prefer if they didn't, and I'm pretty sure Jackman isn't interested anyway. As things stand, it's the perfect opportunity to keep Deadpool fairly standalone (with the XMen characters who do appear being played by different actors than in the main series) and to potentially tie in to the MCU after the merger.

@AC1 - I'm not sure how I feel about the X-Men in the deadpool movies being different from the x-men in the main series. Wouldn't it be weird to have two colossuses? And I do feel like Logan should be the end, but I still think if he did a cameo in Deadpool 2 or 3 it could still work cuz he'd still be alive at that point. But if he did cameo in one of these, Logan would still be the end of his story. The cameo would just be a small part from his past in the new timeline. I kinda like the idea of filling in the blanks on Logan's past in the new timeline. I've also thought about that, if they're not gonna recast, then what the hell are they gonna do to explain wolverine's absence between Apocalypse and Logan? He just disappeared, came back for the new end of DOFP, and then Logan happened? That's what makes me think he can either continue to pop up in small roles or they should recast.

@Termin8er - I know a Wolverine cameo works in terms of the timeline, I just think it'd be a shame for Jackman to revisit the character when Logan was the perfect way for him to retire from the role. As for my "different actors" comment, I'm basing that on the recasting of Colossus and how that opens up the possibility that Deadpool could be inserted into the MCU without the need for a proper reboot.

I've been thinking about how the X-Men mythology could be added to the MCU without contradicting it too. The obvious route is to say mutants have been in hiding all this time fearing persecution. I also feel you could suggest the X-Men already existed as a team but disbanded prior to the events of the MCU we've witnessed, and that they reform in a post-Avengers world but still operate under the radar, which then allows the Deadpool movies to be fairly present day and also in a world where the X-Men clearly already exist.

@AC1 - I do think Logan was the perfect end and that him showing up again might be weird, but it could only work in a Deadpool movie since they're kinda disassociated from the main X-Men movies. But i also understand their hesitation and desire not to do it.

Introducing the X-Men as having "always been there" would be extremely tricky. Your idea works really well though. But how could the fact that mutants exist not have come up at all? SHIELD would've known. Scarlet witch and quicksilver are referred to as enhanced individuals. It would be weird to have them not be mutants after mutants were introduced, right? The part that wouldn't work for me would be Charles and Erik's origins. It's a huge part of their origins that they were children during WW2. That worked in the original X-Men movies in the 2000s because Stewart and McKellen were old enough that you could believe they were children in the 40s. If they were to introduce Charles and Erik into the MCU, would they just have to revamp their origins? Maybe they were children in the Vietnam war? But then you don't have Erik growing up mutant AND Jewish and being persecuted. What would they do I wonder.

@Termin8er - SHIELD being such a large organisation prior to its downfall could mean mutants were on their radar to an extent. It's also possible their existence was something Fury kept off the record, as someone like him would.

It could also be explained that the twins were actually latent mutants and the mind stone only activated their powers (could explain why they were the only survivors).

As for Erik and Charles - Erik needs to be a WWII survivor. In the comics, I'm pretty sure they state his powers actually slow his aging so that works out fine. As for Charles, being a child in WWII was never really a major character element, so they could always update him as having been born more recently. Perhaps the generational divide between the characters could even create a new, interesting dynamic - like if Charles actually followed and looked up to Erik until Erik became too extreme and his true ideology was discovered.

@AC1 - I guess that could work, but it would be reeeaaaally hard to believe that mutants and x-men existed during all the events between iron man and Infinity War and did absolutely nothing. I thought that the mind stone could be what accessed their latent powers if they decide to go that way. That's an easy fix, compared to the existence of mutants in the past.

I totally agree that Erik needs to be a WWII survivor. I was not aware that his powers slowed his aging, that's pretty cool (not sure how that makes sense, even comic book sense, but that's still cool). I was under the impression that in the comics he aged into an old man, then some mutant turned him into a baby, and then someone turned him back into an adult, but instead of restoring him to an old man, they brought him back to his prime. Does that sound familiar?

Charles was never rooted in WWII specifically, he just kinda was through Erik. I really like your idea of making him like a younger brother to Erik. So if Erik is about 75 - 80, he could appear to be in his forties or fifties? I think that would work.

I would love to see the X-force go to Wolverines grave only to find he's gone which leads into the film X-force- the hunt for Wolverine. When they find Logan he tells them the multiverse is colliding causing incursions and then reveals to them he is in possession of the Fox mens version of the reality stone which they use to travel to the MCU where the Fox universe is colliding into MCU and they have to team up with the Avengers and Thanos to destroy the Fox verse. They fail and are reborn into Dooms world which sparks the film Secret Wars and introduces the X-men and Fantastic 4 and this is never going to happen so i'll just stop now.

As cool as it would be to see Jackman in a Deadpool or MCU movie I think is time to start looking new blood for Wolverine, someone for the long run that is.
