Ryan Reynolds Will Definitely Star In Deadpool Or R.I.P.D - But Not Both!

The Green Lantern actor has revealed that both movies are currently being developed but it’s more than likely he’ll only have the time to star in one of them...

"Neither is next," the actor revealed when asked about whether he’ll be filming Deadpool or R.I.P.D (the story of a recently slain cop who joins a team of undead police officers working for the Rest in Peace Department and tries to find the man who murdered him) next. "They're both movies I'm interested in, they're both movies that are in fast-track development."

However, Reynolds was quick to tell iO9 that nothing is definite yet: "I never say I'm doing a movie until I break for lunch the first day. Because it's such a crapshoot, this industry. Everything's so fickle and so contingent on so many factors, aside from just an actor. And because it has an actor, and because these films have interested directors, it's obviously likely that they'll both get made."

"But," he added in what will surely be worrying news for those of us hoping to see him play the Merc with a Mouth, "I think it would be more likely that only one of them gets made with me."

And as for Green Lantern 2 being filmed in the near future, he laughed: "Oh, yeah, we got to get that cart well in front of the horse, I guess!"

Green Lantern is set to be released June 17, 2011!

Since Deadpool doesn't have a director, he'll do R.I.P.D.

Don't lynch me, Deadpool fans, but R.I.P.D. sounds way cooler to me. It just sounds like it will lend itself to cinema more than Deadpool.

Doh! He seems more enthusiastic about Deadpool, but like Shaman says, R.I.P.D is WAY further along so he might choose the safer option.

i personally can't see fox doing the charactor justice.

they've f*cked up to many times for my liking.

give it back to marvel, let them show you how to make a deadpool movie.

I actually hope that he decides to do R.I.P.D! Not only does it sound really interesting (I've never read the comic book so don't really know a lot about it though to be honest) but In my opinion, Fox have never made a good CBM, so why would Deadpool be any different? Plenty of their other movies have had great directors/writers/casts and they've still sucked so it's probably best for Reynolds to go for the better option here and not something which will be yet another critical flop like Fantastic Four or Elektra! :P

Ror- Regardless of his decision, he'll probably still be an executive producer on Deadpool IF it ever gets made which i wouldn't bet money on. The smart & safe option is definitely RIPD, like you say.

Matches- Personally, as much as i like Deadpool as a character, i don't see him fitting on the big screen. Especially not in a solo film. It would alienate too much out of the average movie going audience and it would be Punisher all over again. RIPD feels like it's meant to be on the big screen. It has success written all over it compared to Deadpool. And i didn't even have to read the comic to say that. It just seem like a concept that lends itself well at the box office.

I think he is doing way too much in the comic book movie world...Deadpool, green Lantern now this....its like dude is the only great actor around....I'm still a little pissed about the DC, Marvel overlap...he needs to stick to a character and stick with it...i dont like this double role trend...I hope it doesnt affect chris evans and captain america too much....

@ MatchesMalone - I agree. RIPD seems more safe too, a more commercial appeal.

@ ralph

Pretty Much Agree, Fox has spoilt FF4 & X-Men and sony will not doubt ruin spiderman
where as The hulk, Iron Man 1/2 have been big hits and so will Captain America and thor, what does this show ?

MARVEL KICKS BOTH SONY AND FOX'S ASSES!

All the Films both fox and sony have made marvel needs to redo once they've given the rights back. Leave the casting and story to the Pros !

@ wondergirl14

we've got a rebooted spider-man coming that maybe alright if sony steer clear of the ultimate spider-man universe.

but i agree with you that fox has ruined every marvel product they've touched.

Long time reader first time post. I would love to see Ryan Reynolds to play Deadpool, I think he is perfect for the role, but if not Sean William Scott would be perfect.

@deadpool72: Keep in mind that Deadpool wouldnt have even been a movie idea if Reynolds hadnt kept begging for it back in the day. Plus if it wasnt for that last minute reshoot on Wolverine that Baraka-pool thing would have never happened. But the Zombieland writers can definitely do Deadpool justice. It should have either the tone of Kiss-Kiss Bang Bang and Zombieland.

Another thing, I'd trust Marvel even less with Deadpool because they might try using those horrible Danny Way comics as framework.

Joslezio85 - 9/21/2010, 10:52 AM
Ya know, I know he already played Deadpool...But, with him also being Green Lantern, and having such a small role in Wolverine anyways. I wouldn't mind if he didn't do Deadpool. I'd much rather a different actor who wasn't doing so much different crap at once play the part. I love Deadpool and Ryan Reynolds did a good job of portraying him. But, there's a handful of other actors who could do it just as well in my opinion. Let him do R.I.P.D. Let his big name help bring fame to a lesser known character. Let someone else have Deadpool. Perhaps Dane Cook if he could get back into shape. I think he could do the role well.
Dane Cook

It's not gonna matter who plays deadpool
They could even have Reynolds do the voice and cgi a large portion of him
All you need is his voice and banter
For a good chunk of the movie

Ryan Reynolds BETTER do Deadpool, he was born for the role.

@joslezio85- Dane Cook is a talentless piece of crap, he's never ever ever ever EVER been funny....EVER.

Ryden @ Is DANE COOK.... MEYERS brother by any chance?!? ; P

REYNOLDS shouldn't be in R.I.P.D in the first place... what an a$$ if he picks that over DEADPOOL, but like I said we can always have a gr8 unknown actor that'll keep the mashed up face mask on, REYNOLDS would be cool but not the end of the world!

He shouldn't do R.I.P.D tho, keep to GREEN LANTERN! : P
sweetre15
sweetre15 - 9/21/2010, 11:55 AM
Ok now it's really up to FOX to get all the pieces assembled for this film while Reynold is filming these other films. So Fox, if you want this to get made with Reynolds, Use your fricking time wisely and have everything for this film Ready by the time Reynolds is done with those other two movies.
Shaman
Shaman - 9/21/2010, 12:01 PM
Deadpool doesn't have a director so it won't even be a "highest bidder" issue since R.I.P.D. will be ready to shoot before Deadpool. And shortly after the announcement that Reynolds will do R.I.P.D., we'll be hearing that Deadpool will be getting pushed back. No Reynolds + No Rodriguez = No Deadpool. Fox'll surely end up pushing it back to let Rodriguez do Spy Kids 4000 and Reynolds do R.I.P.D. and Green Lantern 2. It's not like they have that many options. The only thing keeping Deadpool's hype alive is Reynolds and Rodriguez. They don't need to put out this film right away since First Class will keep Deadpool's rights in Fox's pocket. Anything mutant is in the rights.

my common sense is tingling.... i think that he should do Deadpool because there is more of a fanbase that wants to see him in that role, as opposed to RIPD. i think that he will choose RIPD because its probably more in tact at this point than deadpool is. but you never know. hopefully he chooses DP.

RIPD could be a cool movie, but i hope he takes Deadpool! Because i cant imagine him in RIPD! If he takes RIPD i say give Deadpool to SEANN WILLIAM SCOTT!

@AlexDeLarge66^: Sean William Scott would only be good for that horrible Danny Way version.
