(UPADATE #2 IS AT THE END OF THE ARTICLE)

The most satisfying footage that I saw this year did not come from Marvel, DC, or Sony, it came from FOX and Blur Studios and it was only 1 minute and 48 seconds long.

The clip was created in 2011 for 20th Century Fox by Blur Studios, Blur Studios seem to have posted the official high def footage yesterday without FOX’s knowledge but nobody knows the full story.  Many have suggested that Fox might have been testing the waters to see if people are still interested in seeing a Deadpool movie.  The majority of the responses have been positive, and have caused many people to wonder why FOX is taking so long to give this movie a green light.

Ryan Reynolds voices the anti-hero in the footage but the action is mostly CGI.  Robert Liefeld has tweeted the following, “That is ALL 100% Ryan Reynolds in MO-CAP performance. Suit was digitally layered by Miller and Blur.”

This suggests that the project was only in the very early, experimental stages and was then then under director Tim Miller.  In my opinion, Ryan Reynolds is Deadpool.  This role is perfectly suited for him, he is passionate about it, and the role could help to revitalize his career.

Deadpool is one of Marvel’s biggest fan favorites, which is apparent for many reasons including the fact that year after year cosplayers from all around come to Comic-Con to show their support.

Should a Deadpool movie happen?  What are the challenges of making a Deadpool movie?  Hopefully these are just some thoughts running through the heads of 20th Century Fox right now.

The video of the test-footage is still up but I won’t post it here due to the fact that every Deadpool article so far with that footage has been brought down.

Update:

Rob Liefeld has tweeted....

“To ALL who have enjoyed seeing the DP footage, enjoy it for what it is. Test’s are done for films all the time and you have glimpsed process… But I hesitate to encourage your hopes on behalf of the fact that ALL Studios are run to the sound of their own particular drum… What would be more important to the bean counters at any studio are the spread sheets of the enormous Deadpool licensing Marvel generates… There is no doubt that a DP film would OPEN to an impressive number and be profitable. This is NOT Scott Pilgrim or Kick-Ass.

“DP is One of Marvel’s TOP 3 popular characters of the last 20 years AND a prominent member of the X-MEN library-My 1 kernal of optimism… Is that DP will happen eventually, 5-6 years, and as frustrating as that sounds it would still be faster to screen that Spidey, X-Men and FF… Please just manage expectations, thats all I’m saying in regards to Deadpool. Nothing moves fast in Hollywood…. Except Divergent.”

(UPDATE #2)

Escapist Magazine Reveals the Truth Behind the Deadpool Footage

"Even employees at Blur took to social media to show off the video links and take pride in the fact that the work they had done was finally seeing the light of day. Then, just as quickly as the clip started to disappear, so too did the posts associated with Blur employees. It would seem that the official release of that Deadpool footage wasn't so "official" after all.

According to sources, the footage had actually been obtained and released not by Fox or Blur, but by hackers who managed to grab the clip and send it into the wild. After seeing the posts from Blur employees making the rounds, Miller sent a notice to all personnel early Wednesday asking them to remove the posts and to "cease and desist" discussing the clip any further at this time despite the proverbial cat already being out of the bag. We've reached out to both Blur and Fox for comment about the footage and the hack, and will update this story with any response.

It shouldn't be too hard for Blur employees to keep quiet. The studio is hard at work on numerous other projects, including working with Microsoft and 343 Studios on new, remastered cinematics for the Halo: Combat Evolvedand Halo 2 portions of the upcoming Halo: The Master Chief Collection for Xbox One, due out on November 11th.

As far as Deadpool goes, if you haven't already seen the leaked clip or just want to see it again, check it out for yourself below (for at least as long as it's available), and let us know what you think."

Agreed, after hearing about this footage a while back I have been praying that it would get out onto the internet one way or another, and it was awesome!

And yes I suspect it could have been leaked by Fox in a way of seeing if the footage got a reaction, hopefully they will take note of the positive feedback and get the ball rolling on this bad boy!

I don't think it should be in news...

I rather think it was the most depressing of the bunch. Liefeld claimed they actually filmed it. That it was Reynolds in the suit doing all of the movements and talking. But 2 years later pass and we find out it was just CGI? Why did it take that [frick]ing long to release it? They should've released it when producers and cast and the director were still on board with it all. Now they're busy with other shit and this puppy ain't getting made. Fox is dumb as hell.

@Alphadog

It wasn't revealed at Comic con.

I know, that's why Deadpool "Unofficially Won", if it was released at Comic-Con he would have Officially WON Comic-Con

I've said before that this is better than everything at SDCC, and Fox accidentally stole Marvel and DC's thunder. However, since it wasn't revealed at Comic Con itself, it's more that it won the weekend of Comic Con, not Comic Con.

Best CBM footage I've ever seen. Simple as that.

We need this movie.

@TheGambitFreakIsBatmanOfCBM

The director, Tim Miller, and Ryan Reynolds are still very much attached to the project. Tim Miller's 'Blur Studios' Did the VFX work on the footage, and they were the ones who released the footage. It's more than likely been released to gauge fan interest now that Fox's CBM properties are on the upswing again. After Origins, when fans saw what Fox did to Deadpool, interest in the project waned, and it entered production hell. Now, after the success of First Class, The Wolverine, and DOFP, Fox will be looking at this again.

This movie could be incredible. Miller has said he only wants a small budget, and he wants permission for an R-rating. If they can keep the budget at or below what The Wolverine was ($120 million), and if they market the film CORRECTLY, it could be a massive hit.

@TheReddestHood

We know. It was released on Monday. But it's still the best CBM related material released in the vicinity of Comic-Con. And it's 'non-comic-con' status was discussed earlier in the comments. But thanks for playing.

Unofficial = not officially authorized or confirmed

Has it been confirmed that Deadpool Officially won Comic-Con 2014? No, therefore it is unofficial and it is my opinion.
Darth258
Darth258 - 7/30/2014, 8:32 AM
Probably instead that "unofficially won the Comic-Con" would be better saying that something released outside of it was better/more unexpected that what the comic-con gave us.

DrKinsolving - 7/30/2014, 8:32 AM
I'm all for CBM's in general, haven't even seen the Marvel footage, but out of all the footage that I saw that weekend, this takes the cake.

FOX needs to make this movie, soon

Ew @ Leifiled coming for Kick-Ass and Scott Pilgrim. For every Deadpool fan there is there are 6 people who don't know him. Just because he has fans that does not mean it will open to big numbers. He better sit his ass down.
PAF
PAF - 7/30/2014, 12:14 PM
Liefeld's goofy ass also needs to remember the film is not just for fans. The studios know they have your money. They want the GENERAL AUDIENCE aka those who know nothing of the comics and the characters.
