2018 was not only a huge year for superhero movies, but for the box office in general. Global totals reached an all-time high of $41.7 billion, while domestic revenue climbed to a record $11.9 billion - $3.092 billion of which came from Disney.
With box office smashes such as Avengers: Infinity War, Black Panther and Incredibles 2, the Mouse House's $7.325 billion global haul brought it just behind its own 2016’s record-setting total of $7.605 billion.
This means Disney is still the only studio to ever cross $7 billion in a single year, and it should have little trouble repeating that in 2019 with the likes of Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame in the pipeline, not to mention live-action adaptations of Dumbo, Aladdin and The Lion King, and Star Wars: Episode IX in December.
Disney's acquisition of Fox is also expected to be finalized in the coming weeks, which means it'll be able to claim an even bigger slice of the BO pie moving forward.
