The little voices inside Riley's head know her inside and out, but next June, everything will change for her when Disney and Pixar's Inside Out sequel introduces a new Emotion: Anxiety!

That's just one of four new Emotions heading to Headquarters, but according to Inside Out 2 director Kelsey Mann, this new character promises to stir things up in a big way. "Anxiety, voiced by Maya Hawke, might be new to the crew, but she’s not really the type to take a back seat," the filmmaker says (via "That makes a lot of sense if you think about it in terms of what goes on inside all our minds."

With these comments come the first trailer and poster for what promises to be the feel-good (or feel-everything) film of next summer. With Riley turning 13, we see some big changes being made within Headquarters, only for the five Emotions we first met in 2015 to then learn they have some company.

Here's the plot synopsis for Inside Out 2:

Inside Out 2 returns to the mind of newly minted teenager Riley just as headquarters is undergoing a sudden demolition to make room for something entirely unexpected: new Emotions! Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust, who've long been running a successful operation by all accounts, aren’t sure how to feel when Anxiety shows up. And it looks like she’s not alone.

Maya Hawke lends her voice to Anxiety, alongside Amy Poehler as Joy, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, Lewis Black as Anger, Tony Hale as Fear, and Liza Lapira as Disgust.

Some of those names might not look right to you and that's because some changes have been made since Inside Out was released. Bill Hader won't return as Fear, while Mindy Kaling is no longer playing Disgust; it's previously been reported that they departed the franchise after being offered just 5% of what Poehler is receiving.

Inside Out was a hit in 2015, grossing $858.8 million worldwide and finishing its theatrical run as the seventh-highest-grossing film of 2015. The movie was nominated for two awards at the 88th Academy Awards, winning "Best Animated Feature," and received numerous other accolades.

Directed by Kelsey Mann and produced by Mark Nielsen, Inside Out 2 will be released in theaters on June 14, 2024.

only one movie next year. Ah if only it was like that every year

@bobevanz - Not shocked that Marvel is prioritizing Deadpool 3. Only movie next year which is wild. Hopefully it can deliver.
KaptainKhaos - 11/9/2023, 8:42 PM
@bobevanz - oh wow, by 2025 it'll be two years since I watched anything MCU related, that's cray cray
FlopWatchers5 - 11/9/2023, 8:44 PM
@KaptainKhaos - Oh wow that’s awesome! Stick it to the man!

@bobevanz - Quality over quantity, glad it all got pushed back and won't be rushed.

Deadpool 3 being Marvel's only release in 2024 will help them with their dwindling release of box office flops and hits. I think it's a good time for a break from superhero flicks in 2024.

@BiggieMac4Sauce - it's funny cuz I'm not even doing it to stick it to Disney, I'm just very selective

@garu - from Forbes:

“Marvel’s first two films of 2023 grossed a combined $1.3 billion in box office. Even if The Marvels only does $700 million, or a bit more than half the box office of Captain Marvel — a vastly bigger drop than even the Ant-Man franchise experienced — then the MCU will still have grossed a total of about $2 billion for the 2023, and still maintain an average of about $802 million per film for the Multiverse Saga.

If that figure sounds familiar, it’s because it’s barely under a range I mentioned earlier — $815 million — for the per-film average for the MCU ever since the end of the Infinity Saga. Marvel settled back a bit from the high per-film average of $935 million, and for four years we’ve consistently seen this same new average level of performance for their films. Again, not insignificant as a drop, but in context it’s easier to understand and recognize as not a sudden emergency situation, and I suspect most studios would be happy if they could average north of $800 million per film on average every year.”

stop with this flop narrative lol it’s already been debunked and is getting old.

but a pause in output is welcomed.

@BiggieMac4Sauce - Hells to the yes! I'm doing my part by only watching MCU content on D+ using an account that I share with 26 other people that I work with! And when I DO watch something on D+ I do it while sitting buck naked in a Disney JELL-O mold full of green JELL-O while wearing Minnie Mouse pasties and a pair of Mickey ears! That'll teach 'em!!

Sweet, I wonder if depression will be one of the emotions they address, it could hit home for a lot of people.
FlopWatchers5 - 11/9/2023, 8:43 PM
that last line was funny asf lol

man, my next off day I gotta run thru some Pixar classics.

dracula - 11/9/2023, 8:48 PM

never actually saw the entire first but have heard a lot of great about it.

maybe ill give it a watch
philinterrupted - 11/9/2023, 8:50 PM
Where were all these new emotions in the adult’s bodies in the first movie?
dracula - 11/10/2023, 11:46 AM
@philinterrupted - guessing they are treating these as just teenager emotions
philinterrupted - 11/10/2023, 1:13 PM
@dracula - well, that’s a huge miss

I actually liked the trailer and Anxiety's design, it's like the perfect blend of cute and stress at the same time. The disheveled look and those big eyes scream that it's gonna suffer a hilarious panic attack at any time. XD

Looks fun.

I loved the first one. It helped my little waffles and I process a lot together with moving around the world.

I’d love to see an AHDH character (yes I know it’s not an emotion).
