MUPPETS NOW Series Announced For Disney+ Premiere On July 31

The Muppets are returning to television, as Disney+ has announced that a new original series titled Muppets Now is coming to the streaming platform on July 31! Could this be a long overdue return to form?

This morning, as part of Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+'s celebration of National #StreamingDay, Disney+ announced that the new original series Muppets Now will premiere July 31 on the service.

Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and the gang joined in the fun by sharing their own unique spin on the series’ original key art, and you can view that thread HERE or by following the link below.

Muppets Now is The Muppets Studio’s first original series for Disney+. In the six-episode first season, Scooter rushes to make his delivery deadlines and upload the brand-new Muppet series for streaming. They are due now, and he’ll need to navigate whatever obstacles, distractions, and complications the rest of the Muppet gang throws at him.

Overflowing with spontaneous lunacy, surprising guest stars and more frogs, pigs, bears (and whatevers) than legally allowed, the Muppets cut loose in Muppets Now with the kind of startling silliness and heartfelt fun that first made them famous. Now, we just need to hope its a return to form after that disappointing series which aired on ABC.

@Eagles0589 - Really... does any streaming service have the rights to the original? It’s not showing up on Disney+

@Chewtoy - I'm not sure, but I want new episodes. I'm sure they would have no problems getting guest to come on.

Muppets were dealt a HUGE blow when Henson died. They limped on in the 90s, but as soon as Frank Oz left it was truly dead.

my youngest daughter loves the new Muppet Babies on Disney Jr. It's very much a Disney Jr. show, but watchable enough for a parent to not want to jump off a bridge like Fancy Nancy or Caillou.

Last time it was my turn to pick a movie on movie night I picked Muppet Treasure Island.

It... was just awful. A horrible, horrible movie that not even Tim Curry could salvage. I didn't remember it being as bad as it was. The gags weren't funny in the slightest.

Just thought that was a fun Muppet story to share.

Man I really dig the ABC show. It got a bad rap but it was pretty funny to me.

@Toonstrack - I loved it. I'm a big Muppets fan and I was shocked they didn't bring it back. Glad this is happening now.

It's time to start the music! It's time to light the lights!
They can do it, they just need to stick to the format from the original show: Variety show with a weekly host, musical act and short parody skits. The problem is they tried to turn it into a weekly sitcom with an ongoing storyline, the Muppets really weren't designed for that, you need to stick to heavy satire in short bursts.
