Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was released to positive reviews last year, and while it wasn't quite as crazy as some fans expected, it still served as a fun glimpse into the MCU's Multiverse. Sam Raimi's unique approach to filmmaking also gave this adventure a vastly different feel, though it's become clear the story evolved greatly from page to screen.
At one point, the movie opened with Mordo being beheaded by the Scarlet Witch, while Nightmare was also strongly considered as an antagonist.
That was likely in place of the Scarlet Witch as there was a time she was going to be Doctor Strange's ally rather than his enemy. In some new concept art shared on ArtStation by Thomas du Crest, we see the former Sorcerer Supreme joined by Wong, Mordo, and Wanda Maximoff in "the Incursion Universe."
However, as du Crest explains, "At that point, it was more of a desert filled with dead Strange variants." More dead Stranges means zombie Variants, and while that was a concept which did make it into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, we'd have loved to see this undead army rise up to battle the heroes.
"Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is a one of a kind blockbuster experience and a pure, unadulterated Sam Raimi movie that, while not quite the crazy ride through the Multiverse we expected, delivers a fun, horror-tinged trip," we said in our review of the sequel last year.
There's no official word on a Doctor Strange 3 right now, but this movie ended with a cliffhanger that seemingly set the stage for one. However, there's always a chance Strange and Clea's team-up will be picked up on in movies like Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars.
