We caught a glimpse of the Multiverse in both Ant-Man and Doctor Strange but Marvel Studios has yet to explore alternate dimensions and realities in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's been hinted that could be on the cards in the past, especially as Kevin Feige and company look to expand this world and bring characters to the big screen we never imagined would make it there even just a few years ago.
In an interview in the "Marvel Studios: The First Ten Years – The Evolution of Heroes" featurette on the Thor: Ragnarok Blu-ray, Avengers: Infinity War star Benedict Cumberbatch indicated that we'll soon start seeing the Marvel Multiverse expand in a significant way moving into Phase 4 and beyond.
"What we’ve seen happen within the Marvel Cinematic Universe is this ever-expanding couture of superheroes," the actor said. "And I think now we’re at the stage where this universe, even within our world, has gotten quite crowded and it’s just about to explode into other dimensions."
In the comic books, the Multiverse was introduced to differentiate between the different versions of Captain Britain and has since introduced alternate worlds containing characters like The Ultimates, Old Man Logan, and Marvel Zombies. Could it show up in Avengers: Infinity War or Avengers 4? For now, that obviously remains to be seen but let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
