DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS Star Benedict Cumberbatch Confirms Another Round Of Reshoots

Benedict Cumberbatch has confirmed that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will undergo more reshoots before the year is over; could that explain why the release date was recently pushed back?

Despite heaps of rumours about cameos and even some possible leaked pre-vis images, Marvel Studios has done a great job of keeping Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' plot under wraps. The sequel wrapped production with reshoots back in September, but we may now have a better understanding of why the release date has shifted from March 2022 to May 2022.

During an appearance on Today, the Sorcerer Supreme himself, Benedict Cumberbatch, confirmed he's gearing up to return for another round of additional photography before the year is over.

"[I'm] very excited. Sam Raimi’s at the helm, so expect extraordinary things, and yeah, we’re in the middle of making it even better," the actor says. "We’ve got some reshoots coming up in November and December, and then it comes out in May, and I guess you’ll have to wait until then."

More reshoots aren't necessarily a cause for concern, especially as COVID has caused delays in filming and possible scheduling issues. However, with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness shaping up to be one of Marvel Studios' most ambitious movies to date, it could be that some tweaks are needed so moviegoers don't find themselves too overwhelmed by this adventure.

As per usual, there's a very good chance we'll never find out what was/wasn't the product of reshoots, but we're definitely excited to see more from this one as we near that slightly later release date.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to arrive in theaters on May 6, 2022.

One of my most anticipated films. Up there with Matt Reeves’ The Batman. Whatever Feige, Raimi and co. Have to do to make this better, please do. Cannot wait to see this in IMAX

@VicSage - cant put it anywhere near Batman for me because Raimi and Waldron didn’t get to create their own story they signed up after Derrickson walked. I still expect it to be awesome but Reeve’s The Batman awesome? Doubtful.

So... they have two rounds of reshoots? Seems like they are gonna change a lot.

The great thing about Marvel is that they can actually allow themselves financially to do these things. Everything for a better and greater movie!

Oh no is the MCU in trouble? Sure looks like it! This movie is a mess, which is obviously explained by the extensive reshoots! Said no sensible person ever

Guess Raimi has to add more close-ups of screaming women.

Please let this be good 😪 I’m starting to fear Sam Raimi was given too much freedom , which isn’t a bad thing at all but when you’re new to the MCU and taking on characters already established by someone else and then given even more excellent spotlight (like in WandaVision), you need an understanding of who they are and try not to change them drastically. That’s what I read was happening with Wanda, they were making her to be a full on villain, which I don’t personally mind, but when you change the characters too much , for the general audience it can be jarring.

@MisterDoctor217 - too much freedom? He didn’t answer Get to create the story. Story was set in place prior to him and Waldron signing on

@McMurdo -

Actually no, Waldron said they had create the screenplay from scratch because they abandoned what the previous director was doing 🤔

@MisterDoctor217 - Sam Raimi has never made a bad movie. I don't care what anyone says, but SM 3 was not a bad movie.

I wish more would adopt the name Peter Jackson has for these "pickup shoots" doesn't sound as bad

I would be worried if a big-budget film didn't have reshoots.
