It's been well-documented that Marvel's Eternals will introduce the first prominent, openly gay character in the MCU, and this hasn't sat very well with some people.
In the film, Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry) is revealed to have settled down with a family in the suburbs, and is seen sharing a kiss with his husband before leaving to rejoin the team. Despite the fact that the movie hasn't even hit theaters yet, the mere mention of some LQBTQ+ content was enough for hundreds of one-star reviews to be logged on IMDB.
This "review-bombing" tactic has been employed numerous times in the past, but it doesn't seem to have bothered Kumail Nanjiani (Kingo) too much, who responded with the following (since-deleted) Tweet (via CBR).
It's a shame Nanjiani felt the need to delete this, but he may have been asked to do so by the powers that be!
Marvel Studios has been criticised for its rather noncommittal inclusion efforts in the past, but having seen Eternals, we can tell you that Chloe Zhao's movie goes the extra mile to highlight an LGBTQ+ relationship in a way that never feels shoe-horned in or pandering.
Eternals is set to go in general release on November 5. Will you be seeing the latest Phase 4 adventure opening weekend?
