Bob Garlen Presents: DOOM Live Action Movie Fancast and Reboot

My short take on a reboot of the DOOM Franchise as a film, taking a different approach to previous adaptations by embracing heavy elements of both the classic and newer DOOM video games.

This is certainly one of the shorter fancasts I've done this year. That being said It is one I've been wanting to do for a long time, and figured it's either now or never.

Doom is a franchise that, by all logic, is perfect for an action movie franchise. Carrying an often loose story and filling time with blood, guts, and action, it's a franchise that leaves a lot open to play with that should be a dream for any creative team. Sadly Doom has suffered two very distant adaptations, basically taking the title of "Doom" in name only and that is highly unfortunate. Many seem to take the very open story space and either make it very confusing or complicated, which is something Doom should never be. Doom is a straightforward franchise. It's odd that the previous adaptations have refused to either adapt a game and add on a simple story or at the very least adapt the Doom Slayer. Instead the previous adaptations have just created their own, which isn't necessarily bad, but the character's design and presence is a large part of what people enjoy about Doom.

Either way, this is my version. This adaptation would either be a standalone or a "Part One" of a trilogy, should it be the latter the lore and more Trilogy based elements would be a slight introduction in Part Two. As far as this cast goes, I'm approaching it with a concept of being a stand alone. The Film, as I imagine it, it would be filmed in entirely First Person Perspective, setting it apart from numerous films as well as previous adaptations. This version would feature the Doom Slayer, with a bit of a different back story from the games, while tying directly into the games (Taking heavy inspiration from Wolfenstein RPG, DOOM RPG, DOOM RPG 2, and the 2016 DOOM reboot). The Doom Slayer would be B.J. Blaskowicz from the World War 2 set Wolfenstein Games. This takes heavy influence from "Hardcore Henry" This is my version of a DOOM Movie.

A man wakes up on the planet Mars, during a raid of Demons on a Planetary station owned by the UAC, headed by Dr. Samuel Hayden and an A.I. System known as VEGA. As the Man continues through the station looking for who set him free he begins regaining his memories - placing him in World War 2, A mission on a siege for a Castle, and sending a Demon (and himself) to hell. Sgt. B.J. Blaskowicz becomes a Doom Slayer - a dangerous mercenary able to handle the literal forces of Hell as he hunts down Hayden and Dr. Olivia Pierce - who set started the Hellish invasion.

Composer: A film score (also sometimes called film music, background music, or incidental music) is original music written specifically to accompany a film. The score forms part of the film's soundtrack, which also usually includes dialogue and sound effects, and comprises a number of orchestral, instrumental or choral pieces called cues which are timed to begin and end at specific points during the film in order to enhance the dramatic narrative and the emotional impact of the scene in question.

Mick Gordon [Notable Works: DOOMWolfenstein: The New Order, DOOM Eternal]: He isn't involved with ID anymore, the two had a falling out and as tragic as that is, no one would not want to see him comeback for a Film. His music was a definitive element in rebooting Doom into the best version of itself, and keeping him in a role disconnected from ID while attached to Doom might be worth exploring for Mick. It would be tragic not to hear his music associated with Doom anymore, as Iconic and unique as he's made the score, he's entitled to the opportunity to help bring Doom to the big screen properly.

Screenwriters: A screenplay or script is a written work by screenwriters for a film, video game or television program. These screenplays can be original works or adaptations from existing pieces of writing. In them, the movement, actions, expression, and dialogues of the characters are also narrated. A play for television is also known as a teleplay.

Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick [Notable Works: ZombielandLifeDeadpool]: Great writers who really get the pulse of the material they're working on. Deadpool was a smash hit and Life was a horror movie that stood out. With such a wonderful understanding of both action and horror they are perfectly primed to reboot Doom into a proper film actually based on the games, instead of being Doom in name only.

Director: A film director is a person who directs the making of a film. Generally, a film director controls a film's artistic and dramatic aspects and visualizes the script while guiding the technical crew and actors in the fulfillment of that vision. The director has a key role in choosing the cast members, production design, and the creative aspects of filmmaking.

Ruben Fleisher [Notable Works: ZombielandVenomUncharted {Forthcoming}]: I enjoy his films. Venom, while not the best comic book film, was fun to watch and has remained so on rewatches. He's already dived into the realm of Video Game adaptations and there's no doubt his style and flair could take a great Doom Script and create a Iconic Doom Movie. His work perfectly primes him for it because his work is unapologetic and honest with itself, not a work that takes it self more serious or expects more of itself than it should.

B.J. Blaskowicz/Doom Slayer [Height: 6' 0", Age: N/A]: A World War 2 Soldier who led the charge on Castle Wolfenstein as the Nazi's summoned Demonic Forces to aid their efforts in the war. B.J. battled the being that became Cyber-Demon, ripping it's right leg and left arm off while it pulled B.J. down to hell. He awakes on a Space station in a haze and begins to wander through, acquiring a battle suit and numerous guns.

Vin Diesel [Height: 6' 0", Age: 53, Notable Works: Saving Private RyanThe Fast and Furious {Franchise}, Bloodshot]: He was originally primed for the 2005 Movie, but he turned it down (and for good reason). But Vin is really the perfect actor to play the Doom Slayer, especially since the film would likely require the Slayer has a voice and Vin has a perfect voice for such a character. He's got the presence and if the material was right there's no doubt he would take the role and become part of the iconic franchise.

VEGA: An Artifical Intelligence system used by Samuel Hayden and UAC and commandeered by the Doom Slayer, helping him as be kills his way through Hell and the UAC Space Station.

Alan Tudyk [Age: 49, Notable Works {As a Voice Actor}: I, RobotRogue One: A Star Wars StoryHarley Quinn]: Tudyk is a wonderful voice actor and with his sense of humor and timing, as well as transformative voice, he'd be a perfect bug in the ear for an audience and for the Slayer to keep the film from feeling stale or annoying. He's got a voice that really reminds me of the game's version of Vega and it's a role the suits him well.

Dr. Olivia Pierce [Height: N/A, Age: 50's]: Along with Samuel Hayden, she was responsible for studying Hell to solve the human energy crisis. Ultimately, desperate to cure her terminal illness, she made a deal with an unseen demon lord to aid in Hell's invasion of Earth in exchange for great power - not just curing her of her illness, but in her words "becoming a god." Pierce soon formed a demon-worshipping cult within the UAC, promising her followers a place in her "new world"; in reality, Pierce was only using her followers as disposable minions to serve in her selfish desire for godhood.

Helena Bonham Carter [Height: 5' 2", Age: 54, Notable Works: Fight ClubAlice in WonderlandHarry Potter {Franchise}]: Helena is a massively underrated actress. She's done wonderful work playing characters of wavering moralities or grand goals. After her work in Harry Potter, she became the first and only choice for Pierce. She'd knock it out of the park.

Dr. Samuel Hayden [Height: N/A, Age: N/A]: The cybernetic Chairman of UAC, responsible for the incorporation of the Hell Energy. He manipulates the Doom Slayer into retrieving an artifact known as the Crucible for him while also sending him on the hunt to murder Dr. Olivia Pierce for interrupting his plans.

Bryan Cranston [Height: 5' 11", Age: 64, Notable Works: Breaking BadTotal Recall, Trumbo]: Cranston is an actor who stands among the greats, with a career that has wavered between drama and comedy flawlessly, playing good and bad people. He's a strong actor and after Total Recall failed to give him an impressionable villain, Doom can give him that chance back. He's got the talent to play a great movie villain and this would absolutely be the perfect opportunity for him.

Well, doesn't seem like anyone wanted to comment on your Doom cast. It's very good. I think Vin Diesel has enough gas in the tank for more action-centric films and another shot to play the Doomslayer. And it's never a bad idea to have the original composer of the rebooted series, Mick Gordon, give an encore performance on the big screen. Well done!
