A man named Clark Kent was born in 1978. As a kid he was a fan of the Superman comic books, television shows, and movies. He grew to hate his name and the Superman character as he was increasingly teased for being a small, frail child. As a young adult, he outgrew his weak frame and started to resemble the fictional superhero. He graduated from college with a degree in journalism, took a job in New York, and married Elaine Farrell, a fellow reporter.
Life was grand until Elaine was taken hostage in Iraq while reporting on turmoil in the Middle East. She was killed by an anonymous terrorist cell along with a group of American journalists and their demise was broadcast on the internet. Clark saw the whole thing.
In a state of deep depression, he became an alcoholic and drug abuser. Thoughts of revenge controlled his life. After being forced into rehab by his mother and his photographer James, things started to get better. Then, a news story broke that Elaine's killer had claimed responsibility for the execution. Clark's insanity over the revelation led to an amazing chain of events starting with his burglary of a decommissioned personal combat flight suit from the Smithsonian Museum of Modern Warfare. In his deranged state, Clark thought somehow he could become the fictional character with whom he shared a name.
Was he right? Could he become a "Man of Steel?" Would he exact his revenge? Or would his personal demons emerge and foil his plan? There is much more story to tell.
I have posted eight chapters so far on a blog site. There are 28 chapters in total. I would love some support from the CBM community. Check it out, sign up for email updates, and most of all let me know what you think. Portions of this story are very dark and there is some profanity. Best not to read this one with the kids.
