This is a series I'm starting, having already done Ant-Man I will move on to Guardians Of The Galaxy. When the rumored movie, Guardians Of The Galaxy, was announced at last SDCC it garnered both praise from fans and criticism from critics. As most realize, myself included, this movie is just about expanding the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and to take us someplace new. Not only does this movie support the popular theory of Marvel's long term plans, found here, written by yours truly, but it will also be a great way to introduce some needed characters in the Marvel Universe, as well as flesh out others. But more on that in a bit, next I'm talking about a controversy of these characters.
But You Can't Have A Talking Raccoon In A Superhero Film Because That's Silly
Now before I tell you how cool Rocket Raccoon is, more on that in a bit, lets first turn our attention to this controversy about him. Now lets think for a second of some popular franchises.
How about
Star Wars for instance. Not even mentioning characters like Yoda, or Wookiees who look just as “silly” as Rocket Raccoon but what about Ewoks! That's right, Ewoks look like little Teddy Bears! Now wait we can't have characters like this, it's just silly. Well, that's what you would have to say if you really don't want Rocket Raccoon in the MCU. Now lets talk about
The Chronicles Of Narnia, one of the main characters looks like a lion! To say nothing of Mr. and Mrs. Beaver or Reepicheep. Rocket is a great characters having some of the best and most funny lines in the series, he quickly makes his way to one of your favorite characters. I think much like Hulk stole the show in the Avengers and became a fan favorite over night, Rocket would do the same.
But what about Groot? He looks like a tree! That's silly.
Oh, and don't even start talking about Groot,
Lord Of The Rings had the Ents.
Well, what about their names? Star Lord, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot all sound silly!
Again,
The Chronicles of Narnia Mr. and Mrs. Beaver?
Lord Of The Rings Tree Beard? All those worked. Same thing. Moving on.
Characters
This would be a great movie for characters, lets just go down the list of a few characters that could be included in the Marvel Studios adaption of
Guardians Of The Galaxy.
Adam Warlock
Most think Adam Warlock unrelatable, he is and isn't in a way. The Annihilation tie in Thanos series is a great way to start getting to know Adam's and Thanos, which are found
here and
here. Adam serves as a very strategic mind someone to bring order to the other characters.
Star Lord
Star Lord (aka Peter Quill) is one of the coolest characters in comics. While he's a good leader, he seems to sometimes sacrifice his in born power to lead going in to situations guns blazing and not thinking. He's kind of a Han Solo type of guy. Plus, after loosing Thanos as a friend, Adam would be looking for some type of friend that understood him, and Peter would fill that void.
Gamora
Who doesn't want a breath taking, green skinned, warrior woman? Not only does she know how to defend her self (trained by Thanos himself) but she also has a healing power and a huge sword! And she has both a love story with Adam Warlock, and Thanos is a slight father figure to her. The stories are limitless for her.
Drax
While being usually under estimated because of his usual weapon choices (knives etc.), Drax is a proficient hand to hand fighter. With a sort of assassin, Wolverine type of attitude, he would be a great addition to the team.
Mantis
Like Adam Warlock, Mantis seems to be missing from the concept art, but perhaps that's because she stays at their base mostly. Being a telepath she would not only be useful to the team but also would be interesting simply because she knows what everyone is thinking. I'm also thinking there could be a love story between Mantis and Peter...
Groot
Seemingly only saying, "I am Groot," you'd think this character would only be a heavy hitter and that's about it. But it really isn't. Not only is he the Monarch of Planet X, but he is seemingly quite intelligent, although to the average person it sound like he is just saying, "I am Groot", some have seemingly understood more of his language. Besides that, he would be a great character for much needed humor.
Cosmo
Not only are Cosmo's interactions with Rocket hilarious, he would also be a great asset to the team. Why? Because like Mantis, he's a telepath. He also is over their space station Knowhere. So yeah, he's very needed. Oh, and remember Star Wars still have the Ewoks. So yeah, just because he's a dog doesn't mean he isn't a good character.
Jack Flag
Much like Star Lord, Jack most of the time uses his guns. Jack would not only bring some more humor to the team but also bring some more humans to the team. He would also be able to drop Easter eggs to the Avengers perhaps, by saying Captain America was part of his reason to become a hero.
Rocket Raccoon
I know I'm talking about Rocket again! But I can't help it, he's such a great character! Seriously, after I found he was to be a playable character on
Marvel Heroes I instantly got much more excited for the MMO. So why is Rocket so cool? Because he's got a sort of commando attitude and it's hilarious. In a good way. He also is bets friends with Peter and Groot, so it will be nice to perhaps some kind of back story of how they got to be friends.
Thanos
I imagine Thanos will play a huge part in this movie, probably not the main villain but more someone pulling the strings. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if Thanos actually helped our heroes a few times. I imagine by the end of the movie our heroes and Thanos will have probably severed their friendships forever.
Action
Well, lets see you have Star Lord who mostly just uses his guns for everything, sort of a mix of Star Trek and Han Solo. Rocket Raccoon, give Reepicheep a gun. Drax, give Wolverine green skin and blades instead of claws. Gamora, give Wonder Woman green skin and a healing factor and you've got it. Adam Warlock, he's a sorcerer, nuff said. Mantis, a cool alien martial artist, that is also telepathic.
Costumes
They all look incredible, nuff said.
Story
I think the first part of the film should show Thanos training Gamora. Thanos's and Adam's friendship, Thanos's love for Lady Death, Adam trying to stop his friend from falling in love with Death herself, then Adam and Thanos parting ways because of Lady Death. Also, I think Peter Quill (aka Star Lord) would be gathering a team up to stop cosmic threats, ultimately finding Gamora and Adam. I think Adam would find a replace Thanos's friendship with Peter's, making for interesting character interactions.
Closing Thoughts
Some may not realize that Iron Man, Thor, and Cap were all met with the same criticism: Were the characters good enough to go on the big screen? It turns out that most think that they were. Much like the Avengers, this movie could set a bar for the genre, be another addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and would make us just that much closer to the mega event crossover film,
The Infinity Gauntlet. Tell me your thoughts in the comments below! And be sure if you like this article thumb it up so it can reach the main!
