GOTHAM CITY, perhaps the most recognizable fictional city of its kind. Any DC comic book fan understands the infinite possibilities this city holds. Gotham is the home of villains which have become pop culture icons, and the city is synonymous to the concept of "corruption." However audiences who are not comic book fans will barely know any of Gotham's heroes apart from Batman and Robin. Even Dick Grayson's vital change into Nightwing isn't common knowledge.
After Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and the upcoming third part of the story of Bruce Wayne comes to an end there should be time given to explore GOTHAM. Developing the city of corruption into its own character will be beneficial to WB artists, producers, and writers. In the style of the comic book continuity characters that are the heart of the city can finally emerge into the world of live action.
Many heroes such as Nightwing, The Huntress, The Question, Batwoman, Batgirl, and, of course, Oracle more than deserve to be introduced into the history of cinema. Even Gotham's enigmatic villains such as the extraordinary Deadshot and the gripping Black Mask are a must on the big screen. Of course following "The Dark Knight"'s in-touch-with-reality, Gotham City will be an important way to keep the universe of Christopher Nolan alive; as it surely deserves that respect.
This will allow the audience to believe in a fictional timeline set by the other characters' films that will pave the way into Batman's return. The many incarnations of Robin is a worthwhile storyline to feature when time will be right for a new cast and crew to bring back Batman into the city's limelight. Of course bridging the way for an adaptation of "The Red Hood".
Why is this really important? Because Gotham City is an exceptional setting that is rich of crime, tales, villains, heroes, and fire which other fictional cities lack. This strength must be explored not only through Batman but through other important personae of Gotham. This will let the movie-going audience know that any other heroes such as Huntress or Nightwing are not B-list characters using the name of Batman's city, but are extremely important people in the city's history whom make Gotham, GOTHAM.
