This will be the first of the Comicgame posts. Comicgame will be based on what I believe to be a successful formula to adapt our heroes into games. Today, it is Green Lantern.

Basis: Comics (Not upcoming film)

Developer: Bioware (Mass Effect) because of the RPG elements and graphical space technology.

Concept: Hal Jordan(or other, see below)is beginning his first year of being a Latern and is still learning the ropes. Based in space and Oa, the Green Lantern must train his abilities in order to fight the newly-forming nemesis Sinestro. From here GL will fight off random waves of rouge Lanterns (similar to the L4D Computer, but much less frequent). While training the player will gain flight, more uses for the ring and long battery. Throughout the story, Sinestro is the only villain with a throughout story. By the end of the game, the player will have defeated Sinestro in an epic fight in Coast City, at which point (depending on your character, see below) you will either become absorbed by Parallax (Jordan), become an early like form of Ion (Rayner) or be heralded as a Lantern (Garner). Note: You can level up certain powers, willpower, battery drain based on RPG level

Special Gameplay: Players will be able to pick which Lantern they want: Jordan,Rayner, or Garner. Either of the three serves as a "class" of Lantern which allows different Ring powers to be accessed. For example, Jordan can use something simple like a hand as a power, but Gardner can use a complex clamp. This leads to a balance as Gardner will have to charge more often because his are so powerful. The campaign remains the same with AI (by referencing ambiguously) while the Lantern will have unique language to the character.

Multiplayer: Yes, a Corps vs Corps feud. Classic game modes will appear but will also be class based. Simply put

Voice Cast: Green Lantern movie cast or others

When I first thought of how awesome a Green Lantern game would be, I thought of Mass Effect. I think it would be killer to be able to visit other worlds and fully explore them, not just a tiny square. Also instead of being an established Lantern, start as a rookie being trained by Salaak and Kilowog on Oa and have cameo and team up missions with the other Lanterns. The creation stage of making your GL could be intricate involving multiple alien species and/or cross breeds with multiple layers of customization. I like Jordan, Rayner Gardner, and even John Stewart, but the ultimate would be making my own bad ass custom to me GL. Then while space hopping, random fights with Sinestro Corp members, or other colored Lanterns just to spice it up and set up a War of Light all out mayhem showdown finally. Also, throw in some cameos by say, Superman, Martian Manhunter and other space hopping supers and I garantee it would be a winner. As long as it had the detail of Mass Effect and Elder Scrolls and the baddassity of Halo or Knights of the Old Republic.

I think each lantern should also have specific stats unique to them. For instance, Hal should have higher stats in will initially than the other two, kyle in intelligence (creativity), and gardner agility or dexterity.
So this would affect the types of constructs that each would have. Hal's would be simple but effective and would last the longest. Kyle's would intricate and unique being that he's an artist, and Guy's wouldn't last very long but they'd be more powerful. Each element could get better based upon a point system, but initially they could have they're own unique strengths so the player could choose which style of fighting they wanted to incorporate.
Just my thoughts.

This is a really interesting take. Hrm. You threw me through a loop with the thought of doing it as an RPG instead of an action game.

Perhaps instead of starting off as one of the mainstream GL characters, make it a game that inroduces you to the Corps. as a new recruit. You spend time on Oa training, and go through tutorials with the three or four main Green Lantern characters before choosing a 'class' to become. From there you level up in an RPG fashion.

I also wouldn't limit the story to Sinestro alone. One of the big problems DC has is that in most of their media they refuse to draw on their 'universe' and just stick to the basics. I'd like to see things tied together more.
