This movie picks up immediately after the last with Batman being dropped over a building by Bane.

On a dark knight in Gotham Batman slowly opens his eyes to see people crowding around him. He tries to move or say something but finds he can’t. He hears sirens coming in the distance but remains on the top of an old car. He falls unconscious as the police arrive.
Renee Montoya is the first to arrive at the scene. She calls for everyone to get back and she begins ordering cops to set up a perimeter. She walks over to Batman and stares at him. An ambulance arrives and an old man with brown hair and a goatee runs over to the body and begins putting it onto a gurney. As he does Renee moves over the body. She brings her hand close to the bottom of the mask but the paramedic slaps it away, “We shouldn’t touch him until he fully regains consciousness. If he awakens in shock he could attack.” Montoya nods and tells him to continue. The man loads Batman into the ambulance, “I’ll take him to Gotham General. There isn’t enough room in the ambulance so I’ll meet you there.” Renee nods and the man drives away. He turns off his lights trying to blend with the rest of the cars. He rips off his goatee and wig to reveal Alfred, “Don’t worry Master Bruce; I’ll take care of you.” Alfred drives off swerving around to get back to the cave.
Gordon stands outside a hospital with Bullock and many other policemen containing the area waiting for Batman. As they wait Nashton arrives, “I just got the call. I was at home I didn’t see any of the reports till an hour ago. I’m sorry.”
“The biggest mob standoff in recent years and you miss it. We lost over fifty officers and counting not to mention the amount of students and faculty. And the best you can say is I’m sorry,” says Gordon.
“I am Jim. I would’ve been there if I would’ve known. What you think I was just lazy,” asks Nashton.
“No maybe you just don’t give a shit. Yeah I brought you here for the Riddler but lately you haven’t even been there for that. Bullock almost died last time and Stephens…we could have used an extra man.”
“Is there anything I can do Gordon,” asks Nashton ashamed?
“Yeah…show up.” Gordon walks away taking out his phone.
Gordon moves to the entrance of the hospital on his phone, “Montoya where is the body?” says Gordon angry.
“You mean he isn’t there? I sent him like twenty minutes ago with an ambulance.”
“Did you get a name or a number on that ambulance or the driver?”
“No sir…he said he would go straight there. Where could he be?”
The batcave is shown with a special garage holding the ambulance, a police car, and a cement truck. Bruce is on a table heavily sedated. Alfred has an x-ray on the screen looking at his many broken bones and most harshly damaged is his spine. Batman whimpers on the table in pain and without consciousness. Alfred runs his hand over Bruce’s forehead and puts his other hand to his face in anguish, “I’ll get you back to normal Master Bruce, I promise.” Alfred gently tries to bandage Bruce’s wounds. He has casts over both arms and one leg, along with a brace around his ribs and neck, “don’t worry sir, I should be able to fix you up good as new.” Alfred moves back to the computer that displays a serum, “a drug known as Decadron should be able to fix you up. It’s specifically made for spinal trauma; it reduces the swelling but only if administered before the first 24 hours of your coma. We have twenty hours left.” Alfred wipes his eyes exhausted. He grabs his jacket and puts it on, “I’ll be back in a few Bruce.” Alfred turns back to the elevator and leaves the cave.
In a dark apartment building an unmasked Bane wearing a dark trench coat moves to a room. He puts his key in and opens the door to a dark apartment. As he moves inside he hears a clapping noise coming from within. He turns on a light to reveal Black Mask sitting cross legged in a chair. Next to him is a table with a suitcase and gun, “Hello Bane,” says Mask.
“What do you want,” asks Bane?
“Now now is that anyway to talk to your employer. I would have a little more respect if I was you.”
“Well thank god you’re not. I did all you asked so I want my money and to never see you again,” says Bane angry.
Black Mask pauses becoming much more serious, “you better watch yourself Bane. Cause I’m one person you don’t want TO PISS OFF.”
Bane moves to Black Mask until they’re standing less than a foot from each other, “What are you gonna do Mask. Come on…make a move.” Mask does nothing and Bane begins laughing. He moves to the kitchen and pours himself a glass of whisky, “If I was you I would show a little more gratitude. I did everything you asked of me. I took out Thorne’s son,” a flash back of a masked man is seen gunning down Thorne’s son and then ripping off his mask to show Bane, “Delivered your notes to the mob,” Bane is shown putting the picture of Penguin’s daughter into a folder and pushing it under a door, “And finally taking out the Batman…I did everything for you. Now I’m done. So get out.”
Mask remains silent for a moment before grabbing the black leather briefcase on the table, “I’m sorry our relationship had to end this way Bane,” Mask unlocks the case, “but I pride myself on being a man of my word…or at least when it suits me,” Mask opens the briefcase to show stacks of cash, “a million in cash and the rest in the off shore account as you specified.” Mask moves to the door and Bane watches him intently, “Good luck Bane.” Mask exits slamming the door behind him and Bane takes another sip from his drink.
In the morgue Dick Grayson kneels next to the covered bodies of his parents. He cries next to them in pain. A doctor comes in and tells him he has to leave.
Dick walks out and punches a wall. From another room exits Oswald Cobblepot surrounded by his men. Dick walks up to him and holds him against a wall, “WHO ORDERED THE HIT ON THE SCHOOL?”
“You better get your hands off me kid,” replies Penguin. One of Penguin’s men rips Dick away and throws him at a wall holding a gun to his head.
“Boss this kid was protecting your daughter. If it wouldn’t have been for him…” starts another goon before being interrupted
“What she would have died sooner,” interjects Penguin.
“I tried,” blurts Dick from under the hand of the henchman, “more than I can say for your lackeys.”
“What do you want kid revenge? You like my daughter or something?”
“Your daughter was a great friend of mine. We were really close…maybe one day…I don’t know, but I think whoever killed your daughter ordered a hit on my parents. I’m not asking you for anything, but point me in the right direction and I’ll see what I can do.”
Penguin looks at Dick with a strange look noticing his acrobat suit, “yeah I bet the mob really has it out for circus freaks. I’ll take care of who did this; I don’t need your help.” Penguin walks away and the henchman throws Dick back onto a cart.
Alfred goes up the shaking elevator into the living room where the police are collecting evidence from Lucius’s murder as Gordon walks in with Bullock and Nashton. They walk up to Alfred who falls into a chair in the corner, “Mr. Pennyworth, I’m sorry for the loss I know this must be difficult but did you see anything? Where’s Bruce Wayne maybe he knows something?”
Alfred pauses with a look of defeat, “I was taking Bruce to the airport. He took a plane to Paris. When I got home I found the body.”
“Thank you Mr. Pennyworth, do you mind leaving as we examine the scene?” Alfred agrees and walks up stairs.
“Damn, the Riddler is insane…but this,” says Bullock.
“I know, hanging a body like this is…just sinister,” replies Gordon.
“So what are we thinking the Riddler killed him and hung him up like with Falcone,” asks Nashton.
Gordon looks around the scene and then at the body as the cops bring it down, “I think so. Look at the room, the way the furniture is broken and thrown around the room. Lucius probably fought back but lost in the end.”
“Any wounds,” asks Nashton?
“Not that I can see?”
“How could Riddler kill him without leaving any wounds,” asks Bullock.
“Yeah it’s strange Bullock we all get that,” replies Nashton, “maybe he was poisoned, but…that wouldn’t account for the furniture. This is…very strange.”
“Yes…very,” replies Gordon staring at Nasthon, “let’s get the body down to the morgue and run an autopsy.”
Black Mask arrives at Penguin’s Iceberg Lounge. He walks to the back and sits across from Penguin, “you got some nerve coming in here Mask. Your men killed my daughter.”
“Mr. Cobblepot you don’t know how bad I feel. But those weren’t my men. Thorne dressed them up like mine and then tried blaming it on me. A cowards move no doubt.”
“Yeah well, he got what he wanted.”
“But we can’t leave it that way. Join me Penguin. Get your men on my side and I’ll get you the revenge you deserve.”
“Why would you do that? What’s in it for you?”
“These are dark times. Just look outside and see what’s going on. It’s times like these that alliances need to be made…not enemies. Join me Penguin, and we’ll take this guy out. What do you say,” asks Mask extending his hand to Penguin. Penguin takes it shaking it to complete the deal.
Dick stands in the circus tent with a nap sack at his side looking at the place where his parents fell. He looks at the trapeze they fell from analyzing it. A man walks up behind him, “Hey Dick…how you holding up,” asks the man?
“I don’t know Monty…my parents just died along with a friend of mine from school. How do you think you’d be,” asks Dick still staring at the trapeze?
“I’m sorry I know this must be hard for you, John and Mary…they were my best friends and great friends to everyone in the circus.”
“The guy that came in before the show…who was he,” asks Dick?
“Come on Richey let the cops deal with it.”
“WHO WAS HE,” demands Dick, “my father refused to pay him off. I was checking the trapeze and I only found one bolt. Someone tampered with it before the show. I need to know who.”
“He said his name was Zucco…Tony Zucco. Didn’t say anything else other than that he wanted 60% of all we make. Your father wouldn’t allow it,” Monty lets out a small chuckle, “your dad was a great guy. He stuck up for all of us.”
“Well it’s time for me to stick up for him. Monty you and my dad taught me to fight. Do you think I can protect myself,” asks Dick.
Monty lets out a laugh, “Dick come on we taught you to defend yourself against bullies. Not cold blooded killers. They’ll beat you dead without ever having regrets. If you do this…you’ll die Dick.”
Dick swings the bag over his back, “then I guess I’ll see my parents soon enough. I asked around and I heard there’s a mob hideout on 7th. I’m gonna check it out and see if he’s there.”
“Dick we’re moving to Central City. Come with your family Dick, we’re all you got.”
Dick begins walking out of the tent, “no…not yet at least. Tell the gang I said good bye.” Dick exits and Monty shakes his head in shame.
Gordon sits in the MCU with Nashton and Bullock, they all stare into space silent and pondering, “we need to figure out this Riddler stuff,” says Gordon.
“What’s the new riddle,” asks Bullock?
“No. Forget riddles, forget puzzles forget all of this. We need to figure out who this guy is,” says Gordon.
“If we forget the riddles people die,” says Nashton.
“So what do you want Edward? You want to keep playing this guy’s sick games until he gets bored. NO we have to cut this off from where it starts. Now what do we know so far?”
“It’s a guy. I’d say about 5’10, slim build. Packs a punch,” chuckles Bullock.
“Well you should know him the best Bullock I mean the guy bashed your face in pretty well.”
“Forget you Nashton.”
“NO forget you Harvey. You think you’re some kind of super cop just cause you saw the guy. I think you forget he also beat you down like a stray dog.”
“At least I don’t let my guys die.”
“STOP, both of you. That’s just what the Riddler wants,” says Gordon. He drops into a chair and leans back.
“Isn’t it strange,” says Nashton staring into space, “the day the Batman disappears Bruce Wayne leaves town.”
“Wayne leaves Gotham all the time. I wouldn’t look too much into it.”
“Perhaps not, but perhaps we should. The Batman is the parasite of all our problems. He comes to town and everything goes to shit. Hell maybe now since he’s gone things will get better.”
“Hey,” says Gordon cutting off Nashton, “that’s not important right now. The only thing we gotta be thinking about the Batman is where the hell he is. But here we worry about the Riddler. If you wanna go look for the Batman then go ahead but we got more important issues to deal with. We know what he should look like but no distinguishing features.”
“He drives a green Buick like the ones from the old mafia movies. He’s packin an M9 pistol. He’s fast, strong, and smart,” says Bullock.
“Alright that’s a start. Do we got the new riddle yet,” asks Gordon?
“Yeah…I watch over this city from roof tops and cars. I serve to protect and protect to serve. There are many like me but none as great as I. I was born to help those in need, but over the years my purpose has been lost. Who am I?” says Nashton staring into nothing.
Bane walks to an ATM machine. He plugs in his code itching with excitement to open his account and see the millions. He opens his account to see $0. He looks at the machine angry, then something spans across the machine “this is what happens when you go against me…I leave you with nothing”. Bane winds up and punches the screen causing it to malfunction. He walks away looking angry as ever.
Dick stares at an apartment building where a man wearing a suit leans against the door smoking a cigarette. Dick walks over to him and asks for Rupert Thorne. The man doesn’t respond and continues smoking. Dick repeats himself and the man flicks his cigarette at Dick and straightens himself saying no one can see Thorne. He tells Dick to leave and Dick remembers Black Mask and tells the man he was sent by Black Mask. The henchman is stunned to hear this and leads Dick inside.
In a dark alley Alfred walks towards a group of men appearing to be drug dealers. Alfred walks up to them with a smile, “good afternoon gentlemen. I’m in need of a certain medication known as Decadron. Do you have any?”
The guys look at each other as if Alfred is joking.
The henchman leads Dick into Throne’s office where he stands with Zucco at his side. The man pushes Dick inside saying he has a message from Black Mask and exits, “you got something to tell me. You look a little young to be hanging around with the Mask. But hey all his guys wear masks anyways so what do I know,” smiles Thorne.
“Mask wants to know who you got on the extortion ring,” says Dick ignoring what Thorne says.
“That would be me,” says Zucco. Thorne looks at him angry that he spoke.
“You do all the extortion? What’s your name?”
“Tony Zucco. Ask any mom n’ pop shop around here and they’ll tell you they know who Tony Zucco is.”
“So what does Mask want,” asks Thorne growing impatient.
“Mask,” Dick freezes swallowing hard, “wants Zucco dead.”
On the street in front of the apartment building a black van pulls up. Inside are six masked men loading up their shotguns.
Alfred stands in front of the drug dealers trembling in fear. He tells him money is no option. The drug dealer laughs and asks Alfred for 20 g’s.
Zucco asks why Mask wants him dead and Dick replies that Zucco is getting in his way. Zucco asks if Dick is there to kill him. Dick freezes and tells him he just wants to put a name to the face. Zucco aims his gun at Dick in fear and Thorne tells him to calm down and that he’ll keep Zucco off extortion for a while. Zucco begins to argue but Thorne reminds him that they need to keep what little partnership they still hold with Black Mask. Dick tells Thorne he’ll pass the message onto Mask and warns Zucco to watch his back and then exits.
The masked men charge up the stairs to Thorne’s office shooting at Thorne’s men who fight back with less strength than the masked men. As Dick walks down the hall he hears the gun fire and dives into a room. As a masked man walks by Dick runs out to the stairs and sprints down. As he does one of Thorne’s men see him and begin shooting. Dick throws a coffee table at him and then kicks him in the head. He grabs a leg of the table and knocks out another.
Alfred tells the dealer he doesn’t have that much money on him, but he can still pay well over the regular amount. The dealer looks at Alfred’s Cadillac and tells Alfred to give it to him. Alfred tosses him the keys and the dealer smiles telling Alfred he has nice clothes too. The man takes out a knife and walks towards Alfred with a smile.
Dick runs out of the building bleeding from his arm. As he does he sees two more black vans pull up. He runs to the alley where he sees Alfred being attacked. He runs to the attackers who kick Alfred on the floor. He pushes away one snatching the knife from the guy. He uses the blunt end to hit one in the face and then kicks away another. As one charges him he grabs the fist and throws him to a wall punching him in the back and then throwing him to the ground. The last one looks at him with a bleeding mouth from Dick’s punch, “Get away from him,” yells Dick.
“Fine,” says the man picking up his keys. He walks to the trunk of his car and takes out a vile, “and take your drug. Old man shouldn’t be doin this shit anyways.” The man moves around Dick and drives off in the Cadillac.
Dick helps Alfred up and Alfred finds his leg injured. Dick offers to help him home and Alfred agrees.
Thorne sits in his office that was left in shambles after the attack surrounded by his men. Thorne tells Zucco to leave town or Black Mask will have him killed, but Zucco rejects the offer. As they talk Bane slams the doors open knocking it off its hinges. Thorne and Zucco point their guns at him and Bane raises his hands, “I come in peace,” says Bane.
“What the hell are you doing here,” asks Zucco with a strange look on his face, “wait…you’re…you’re the guy that killed the Batman.”
“I come with an offer. Black Mask is joining forces with Penguin. I came here to offer an alliance between our sides. My men with yours…we’ll take both of them out without losing a breath.”
“What do you want in return,” asks Thorne.
“Assurance that when the Batman comes back that you’ll let me kill him.”
“But the Batman…” says Thorne.
“He’ll come back. So what do you say?”
They take a cab to the mansion and Dick helps him to his room. Alfred lays on his bed and Dick puts pressure on the leg making Alfred screams out in anguish, “probably just a sprain. Just put a brace on it for a little while and it should be good.” Alfred grabs his ribs in pain. He lifts Alfred shirt and checks it out, “probably a broken rib or two. It’ll hurt like hell for the first week or so but it’ll get better.”
Alfred lays back holding his ribs, “you sure know a lot about this stuff son.”
“I knew this guy who called himself the Unbreakable Man. He would let people swing bats and tire irons and shit at him and pretend it didn’t hurt. Then once his show ended he would cry in pain trying to fix himself. There was definitely no question why he only did his act once a month.” Dick laughs thinking of his memories.
“You work at a circus,” asks Alfred?
“Yeah…well I did.”
“What were you doing in that part of town son? Not exactly the safest place to be.”
“Yeah I know but…You heard of Tony Zucco? Probably not, but the guy killed my parents. I wanted to see where he worked.”
Alfred looks at him with a distraught look, “I’m sorry…where are you living now?”
“A bar over on Chase street. At least until I settle my business with Zucco.”
Alfred pauses looking at Dick, “you look like a good kid looking to do a bad thing.”
Dick nods letting out a scuff, “yeah and you look like a broken up old man that needs some rest.” Dick gets up from the bed and starts towards the door, “oh the drugged punk said this was for you.” He tosses Alfred the vile, “you really shouldn’t be taking drugs. Especially at your age.” Dick snickers and Alfred begins laughing until he feels the pain at his ribs. Dick walks out closing the door.
Dick walks down the hall marveling at the size of the mansion. He stops at a picture of a young Bruce, Thomas and Martha Wayne. He continues until he gets to the elevator. He walks in and presses the button to the first floor. As he stands in the elevator he feels it start to shake. He presses the button again and suddenly the elevator crashes down to the cave. Dick falls to the ground and scratches his hand on the floor of the cave. He looks up to see the batcave. He stops in astonishment looking around. He steps out of the elevator marveling at what’s around him.
He walks to the Batpod and rubs his hand over it. Then he moves to the medal closet looking at it. Finally he moves to the super computer that holds a black screen. He presses a button and the bat symbol flashes across the screen and more lights begin turning on. He looks around moving his hands through his hair in astonishment as he marvels at what’s around him. As he turns he notices the body of Bruce Wayne. He walks over to it, “oh my god.”
“YOU LOST,” yells a limping Alfred using a cane and holding his ribs?
“I’m really sorry the uh the thing the elevator crashed down here. I didn’t mean to snoop around I’m really sorry.”
“GET OUT!”
“I’m sorry, but um I can help.”
“I DON’T NEED HELP,” says Alfred walking over to Bruce with haste.
Alfred takes out the Decodran and puts it into a syringe, “you should leave now. Once this kicks in master Bruce will wake up and will have much harsher words for you.”
“Please Mr. Alfred. You need my help.”
“Why would I need your help,” asks Alfred getting the syringe ready.
“Well to start a 70 year old man buying drugs isn’t exactly the safest way to go about things. Especially now that you’re hurt.” Alfred stabs the syringe into Bruce and pumps in the serum. “Please Alfred…I don’t have anyone or anything to go to. I have no one to tell. I’m just an orphaned kid looking for a purpose and this; this is what I should be doing. I help you get Bruce back together and you give me what I need to get back at Zucco. Then I’ll leave and go back to the circus.”
“It’s…not…safe,” says Bruce within weak breaths.
“MASTER BRUCE,” yells Alfred.
“It…isn’t…right…its…too…much…for…you.”
“I’ll take my chances. Come on Bruce you know people out there are crying and dying because of what Black Mask and his crew are doing. You saw what I could do at the school. Give me a shot. That’s all I ask.”
“You want a shot…I have the perfect thing for you to do,” says Alfred.
Alfred and Dick put on ski masks and stand next to the door into the room of jail cells. “If you think you really have what it takes to be a part of this,” Alfred opens the door and they walk into the room. They see Waylon who is sprawled on the floor tired and hungry, “you have to get rid of him.” Waylon coughs and then lets out a smile.
Dick walks out of the room with Alfred and rips the mask from his face. “So you want me to get this guy out of here?”
“That is the plan,” replies Alfred walking to Bruce?
“How the hell am I supposed to do that without letting him see the cave?”
“That’s your job Richard.”
Dick stands speechless. He walks to a work bench where he finds the utility belt. He wraps it around himself and grabs a metal pole holstering it at his side, “okay…just give me a few minutes.” Dick puts on his red leather jacket and pulls out a green domino mask from the pocket.
“What’s that,” asks Alfred.
“Sometimes in the show we would wear masks for dramatic effect. This one was my fathers.” Dick puts it on and clenches the pole in his hand, “if I don’t come out in twenty minutes…assume I’m dead.”
Croc sits in the cell scratching at a wall. As he does he sees smoke come into his cell from behind the door. More and more smoke continues entering until it is impossible to see three steps ahead of him. He hears the creak of his cell door opening. He steps forward and finds himself outside his cell. He starts running through the smoke when he suddenly receives a pipe to the stomach. He doubles over looking at Dick. Dick punches him in the face and kicks him into a wall. He raises the pipe ready to strike and Croc runs him into a cell door. He snatches the pipe from Dick and nails him in the face. Dick yells out a cry of anguish and Croc hits him again.
Outside Alfred jumps at every scream.
“We can’t…help him Alfred…he has to do this by himself,” says Bruce on the table.
Dick is shown bleeding profusely from his face. Waylon raises the pipe again and Dick knocks him in the jaw. Then he kicks him in the stomach and spin kicks him away. He takes out a batarang and stabs it into Waylon’s back. Then he jumps kicks the batarang deeper into Waylon. He snatches the pipe from Waylon and kicks him in the chest. Waylon lays on the floor bleeding. Dick winds up his swing and knocks Waylon in the head knocking him unconscious.
Outside Alfred waits as he hears the door swing open. He watches as Dick exits carrying Waylon’s body, “you got a forklift,” asks Dick.
Alfred chuckles limping over to Dick, “now get rid of the body.” Bruce lies on the table peering at Dick.
Gordon walks towards his office carrying a cup of coffee. He unlocks the door and walks in and gets spooked by Waylon’s body hanging unconscious upside down outside his window, “too theatrical,” asks Dick from a dark corner next to a plant and bookcase.
“No um…how did you…who are you,” asks Gordon looking back and forth between Dick and Waylon.
“I work for Batman. I’m here to assure you he’s alive and that our people are taking care of him. Anything you know Batman wants you to give to me. Now Batman had this guy in a cell and wanted me to turn him in to show you I’m for real. He also told me you should have a file about your new task force for him to look at.”
“Um…yeah I’m…I’m sorry but I haven’t had time to make that yet. I can do it tonight and get it back to you sometime.”
“No,” Dick takes out a handheld communication device out of his pocket and throws it to Gordon, “it works like a computer. If you hook it up to your computer you can pass the information onto it and send it to us.” Dick walks towards the window stepping out.
“Why should I trust you? How do I know you aren’t working for the mob?”
“Let me ask you a question Gordon…right now…who can you trust? Have faith and I promise things will get better.” Dick jumps out the window and repels down. Gordon calls in Bullock to show him Waylon.
Bane leads a gang of cars down the road. They swerve in and out of lanes to dodge cars until they get to Black Gate penitentiary. Bane steps out of his car and motions for his men to charge inside. They get inside and begin shooting at police men and guards. They shoot without thinking or caring for who they kill. One of the men kills a guard and takes his keys. He puts a key into a machine twisting it and pressing a button to open all the cells. As he does Bane walks into the cell block, “come with me…if you want vengeance on those who put you here.” Some follow Bane and others run outside to cause havoc. Bane walks to a prison bus letting everyone on. They have two prison buses full of men and pull out of the prison.
As they drive Black Masks men get in front of the buses and shoot grenade launchers causing the bus to flip over. Bane’s men hand the convicts gun and they begin shooting at Black Mask’s men. Black Mask exits the last car and looks to Bane. Mask waves to Bane who remains still. Suddenly a bullet whizzes past Mask and he dives back into the car. Inside the car Penguin is shown with his head down.
Dick rides his motorcycle back to the cave and he hears the fire fight between the gangs. Alfred hears the blasts over the comlink and tells Dick not to engage. Dick tells Alfred if he doesn’t people will die. He jumps off his motorcycle and begins knocking people in the back with his pipe. Then he takes out batarangs and begins firing them at both gangs. As he gets to Black Masks’ car he dives behind it and breaks open the rear window to find Black Mask and Penguin. Black Mask aims his gun at Dick but Dick knocks it away with his pipe. Mask grabs Dick pulling him into the car and Penguin escapes and runs away. Black Mask begins punching at Dick but Dick grabs his fists and punches him in the face and then kicks him in the stomach. He jumps out of the car and begins letting off smoke bombs that cover the area. He can barely see through the smoke when suddenly he’s pushed off the car and into a bike rack. He turns to see Bane walking through the smoke. Bane grabs him by his foot and throws him though the window of a shop. Dick gets up taking out his pipe. He swings it at Bane but Bane grabs it and throws him into a bookshelf that falls on him. Dick struggles to get feeling broken. Bane grabs him by his chin and stares at him, “I destroyed one guardian…I’m not afraid to do it to another.” He smashes Dick’s face on the floor and then walks out. Dick looks at Bane walking out and then lies on the floor defeated. Minutes after Bane leaves he hears police coming in the distance and pushes himself up and limps to his bike.
As he drives down the street barely staying balanced on the bike he spots Penguin. He pulls his bike in front of Penguin and stops. Penguin pulls a gun but Dick takes out a batarang and slashes it away, “what do you want,” demands Penguin afraid.
“Are you an idiot? Do you know the guy you’re working for?”
“He says he’ll help me.”
“Did he say that before or after he killed your daughter?”
Penguin doesn’t say anything shocked, “it was Thorne…not him.”
“Damn it Penguin you’re blind. All the masked men in the attack and you can seriously say you believe that. I tried to save Lisa, but Black Mask shot her point blank.”
“You expect me to believe you?”
“No…but I would expect you to take whatever that freak tells you with a truck load of salt. He came here seeking chaos and keeping you against Thorne is the best way for him to do that. You have to do something.”
“Yeah and what I should listen to you? The guy trying to take me down.”
“No…I’m not trying to take you down and I’m on no one’s side. I just want you to do the right thing,” Dick revs his engine and turns his bike, “think about it.” Dick drives away and Penguin remains frozen thinking.
The next day Bruce sits in a wheel chair staring out a window. Alfred approaches him putting his hand on Bruce’s shoulder, “Lucius...he died,” asks Bruce hardly remembering the night in which he perished.
“Unfortunately he did sir.”
“It’s my fault…I should’ve been here. I should’ve protected him…instead I let him die. I let Penguin’s daughter die…I failed Alfred…I failed everyone.”
“It’s not your fault sir…you can’t be everywhere at once. It’s too much for one man.”
“Bane…he broke me…he defeated me. I…I FAILED ALFRED.”
“Not your fault,” says Dick looking into the room with a bandaged nose and scratch over his eye, “He’s stronger than I thought he’d be…strongest person I’ve ever seen. He threw me around like I was a doll.”
“I don’t want you going near him Dick. Do whatever you want to do but don’t go near Bane. He’s too strong for you.”
“So what I just let him stay out there killing people? Leading a brigade of escaped convicts through Gotham. I won’t let that happen Bruce.”
“I’ll take care of him.”
“Bruce no offense but you can’t even walk let alone fight a merc.”
“This isn’t your fight its mine. I’m going to a treatment facility in Japan where they’ll repair me. I’ll take Bane out. So leave him for me.”
“But Bruce…” the door bell rings and everyone goes silent, “I’ll get that.” Dick exits walking to the front door.
“Are you sure that’s the right thing to do sir,” asks Alfred.
“Don’t worry about me Alfred…watch the boy while I’m gone. He has potential…but he’s reckless.”
“If I remember correctly…you were as well.”
Dick opens the door and finds Vicki Vale, “Um…hello,” says Dick.
She is stunned to see a teenage boy staying at Bruce’s house, “Uh…hello…is Bruce home,” asks Vicki?
“Uh…no he uh…he went to Japan…vacation. I’m taking care of his house while he’s gone.”
“Oh…I didn’t know he was going on vacation.”
“Well Bruce Wayne does things on impulse so don’t be shocked when he does something out of the blue,” chuckles Dick nervous.
“Uh…yeah okay can you tell him I stopped by,” asks Vicki.
“Oh yeah of course. Are you his friend, girl-friend or what?”
“Uh,” she laughs nervously, “I’m wondering the same thing.” She turns away waving goodbye to Dick as she leaves.
Bruce sits at a different window and watches her leave. Alfred comes up behind him and tells him the plane will be leaving soon. Bruce watches her drive away and agrees to leave. Dick walks in assuring Bruce that he’ll take care of Gotham. Bruce agrees and wheels out.
Black Mask sits in his dark office shooting at his henchmen who take the bullets, “I WANT HIM DEAD…I DON’T CARE WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO BUT I WANT HIM DEAD.”
“I don’t think killing your henchmen is going to help,” interjects Penguin from a corner.
“Bane crossed a line…he crossed me. I want him dead.”
“My men will help you, but they are also focused on taking out Thorne.”
“Listen Penguin, Bane is much more important than a simple mobster. He joins forces with Bane and we’re all dead.”
Penguin sits silent until he speaks up, “you know the masked kid from last night…he told me not to trust you,” says Penguin.
“What…you’re gonna listen to that boy wonder?”
“You know you never told me what happened at that school…with my daughter. I still don’t know who killed her.”
“Isn’t it obvious…Zucco killed her. Thorne had no other guy to do it so he sent Zucco.”
“Zucco doesn’t kill. He’s handles the business. Killer Croc was his weapon but he disappeared.”
“…what are you getting at Penguin…You think I killed your daughter?”
“Men in black masks…sound like your guys.”
Black Mask puts his pistol in Penguin’s face, “don’t ever question me. EVER!” He draws back his gun, “I GAVE YOU ALL THIS. Without me last night you would be dead. REMEMBER THAT PENGUIN. Cause I swear to god I have no problem killing you where you stand.”
“Just admit it Mask…your men killed my daughter. I don’t care. I just want an answer.”
Black Mask turns around, “My men didn’t kill your daughter Oswald,” Mask fires three bullets into Penguin’s chest and watches him fall to the ground, “I did. I thought it would turn you into a killer. Instead it turned you into a pathetic wimp. There’s no room for you in New Gotham.” He drops his gun and walks out the door.
Gordon walks out of an interrogation room and walks to Bullock. He tells him that Waylon told him about Black Mask starting a mob war, and that even though he’d never seen the guy that broke that bat he can bet he was working with Black Mask. Bullock takes in the information and reminds Gordon that the Riddler didn’t attack yesterday. And that he’d been analyzing the riddle and he thinks it’s about the Batman, but that it can’t be because he’s already dead. He asks Gordon if he has the last riddle but Gordon tells him he doesn’t. Bullock tells him he’s going to the morgue to see if it was left on Lucius’s body. Gordon agrees as Bullock leaves.
Bruce rolls into a temple where he stares at beautiful Japanese art. As he stares at one a woman approaches him. She explains what the piece is and Bruce stares at it in awe. She introduces herself to be Talia Head, the owner of the treatment facility. She tells him the treatment is purely spiritual, and that he would receive the quickest treatment that he would ever dream of. Bruce stares at her marveling at her beauty and agrees to get started.
Bruce lies on a table in the middle of a very soothing room with soothing colors and burning incents where she gives him a massage. She presses hard on his spine and explains that feeling the pain is the easiest way to get over it. He asks he where she got her chiropractic knowledge from and she tells him her father used to be a valiant worrier and that she used to be his right hand, but he died at the hands of a man that betrayed him. Bruce apologizes and Talia tells him apologies are for the weak, and that soon Bruce won’t be anymore.
Dick sits at a working bench in the cave frustratingly scribbling down a drawing on a piece of paper. Alfred approaches him asking what he’s doing and Dick responds he’s getting ready for the night.
Alfred warns him not to consumed by the job, and Dick tells him he has nothing to worry about, because once Zucco is taking care of, he’ll be ready for anything. Alfred warns him that with every man he takes down, two more will come out seeking some sort of vengeance or purpose through evil. Then he explains to Dick Bruce’s rule to never kill, Dick tells him that if the opportunity came for Bruce to kill the person that killed his parents he probably would’ve done it. Alfred remains silent and Dick goes back to drawing.
Bullock enters the morgue and a doctor pulls out Fox’s body and then leaves. Bullock looks it over checking his mouth and body for the riddle, but finds nothing. As he searches a silhouette can be seen from the window. The door knob is shown turning and Bullock keeps his eye on the body as the camera serves as the eyes of the person walking in. The person takes out a cane and knocks Bullock in the back of the head and then drags him out.
Bane speaks with Thorne about the previous night. He tells Thorne he has enough men to take out Masks’s entire team, and with the cold blooded killers he has on his side no one can touch them. Thorne asks what the next move is and Bane tells him tonight Gotham will take notice to who he is.
Gordon types on the computer the list of new police officers on his force. He connects the communicator to his computer and sends it to Dick.
Dick sits in the tweaking the utility belt as he receives the message from Gordon. He walks to the computer and brings up the file. 20 cops come up and he begins going over the different names, but finds nothing special about any of them. Dick asks Alfred if he knows why Bruce wanted this and Alfred tells him he doesn’t, but if Bruce asked for it then it must’ve been important. Dick continues looking at the names and then begins reading every individual file.
Bruce lays on the floor where multiple women massage his limbs. Talia asks him how this happened and Bruce tells her it was a car accident when his car sped over a hill and hit a wall. Talia asks him what he plans to accomplish from the facility and Bruce tells her he wants to be able to feel like the accident never happened. To one day be able to stand up and live the life he once did with no setbacks. Talia jokes that because of his rich boy life style it shouldn’t be that hard to get him back to be able to sign checks and drive fast cars. Bruce agrees with a smile and Talia smiles at him.
Gordon sits in his office going over the different clues from the Riddler. He analyzes crime scene photos and the different riddles trying to find a connection between them. Edward Nashton walks in and sits across from Gordon, “you find anything,” asks Nasthon.
“Yeah. Last year around this time was when Carmine Falcone was admitted to the mental institution and that was the same year that Jonathan Crane started being the Scarecrow.”
“Falcone became crazy cause of Crane’s fear toxin. You think there’s a connection?”
“There is one…the Batman. That was the same year Batman came to Gotham. They were two of the first big crime figures the Batman faced. You remember six months ago when Colmen Reese came out saying he knew the identity of the Batman. Everyone was trying to kill him to avoid being killed by the Joker. Maybe the Riddler killed him so he’d be the only person to know.”
“You think the Riddler’s been targeting the Batman…why not just attack him from the beginning?”
“The Riddler’s all about playing games. He’s been playing a game to discover who the Batman was.”
“What about Lucius Fox,” asks Nashton interested in Gordon’s analysis?
“I don’t know yet. To throw us off maybe, but the last riddle doesn’t make sense…why would he be targeting the Batman if he’s gone.” Suddenly a blast rips through the bottom floor of the building. The building shakes with great force throwing everyone to the floor.
On the ground floor Bane leads a group of killers into the building and they quickly begin shooting down police officers.
Gordon grabs his gun and a walky-talky and calls all cops to come to the GCPD headquarters. Then he grabs the communicator given to him by Dick and presses a button sending out a distress call.
As Dick does more research on the GCPD cops the distress call comes in from Gordon. The location is shown on the screen and Dick quickly puts on an old bat suit with a domino mask. He grabs two pipes and runs to his motorcycle. He looks to it and then looks at the batpod, “sorry Jeeves,” says Dick throwing the keys to the motorcycle behind him as he runs to the batpod. He blasts out of the cave with great speed and heads toward the headquarters.
Bane yells for a group to stay at the entrance and a group to follow him. They charge up the stairs to the MCU and Bane smashes the door open. His men quickly begin fighting the cops in a big gun fight. Bane walks down the hall to Gordon’s office where Nashton starts shooting at Bane. Bane takes a bullet to the arm and grabs a file cabinet hurling it at Nashton who gets hit in the head and falls unconscious. Gordon spots Bane and begins firing frantically at him. Bane grabs a desk and charges into his office and throws the desk at Gordon who falls behind it.
Dick gets to the headquarters and spots Bane’s men shooting at everyone in the area. He aims the batpod at the men and begins shooting explosives in front of them throwing them in different directions. He speeds towards the office and jumps off the pod. He takes out his grapple and shoots it up to the highest floor knowing it to be Gordon’s.
Gordon struggles to get out from beneath the desk and Bane walks up to him and swats it away. He grabs Gordon by his neck and drags him to the wall, “I’m getting rid of the police force Gordon. Sorry but you’re out of a job.”
“You’re gonna…be…stopped,” says Gordon hardly able to breathe from under Bane’s grip.
Bane begins laughing and tightens his grip, “Who’s gonna stop me Gordon? You? No I don’t think so. The Batman? No he’s dead.”
“What about me,” says Dick jumping in through the window slashing Bane in the back with his pipe?
Bane lets go of Gordon who fights to get his breath back. Bane charges at Dick who jumps over him and slashes down on Bane’s back. Dick goes up for a blow to the head and Bane grabs the pipe. Dick presses a button on the pipe that sends an electric pulse through the pipe causing Bane to receive many volts of electricity and fall back in pain. He gets up angry and charges at Dick who moves and press another button on the pole that sends out a cable that wraps around Bane’s feet and causes him to trip and fall out the window. Dick jumps out the window shooting a grapple at the window as he falls behind Bane.
Bane falls flat on a monorail train stop and Dick touches down nicely letting go of the grapple he winds up one of his pipe and knocks Bane in the face. Bane grabs Dick by his foot and throws him onto the tracks as a train approaches.
Gordon runs quickly down the stairs out of the building and to the train stop. As Gordon runs he passes Tony Zucco’s car and Zucco gets out running to the train stop as well.
Dick looks to the train and quickly does a back flip off the tracks. As the train passes in front of him he watches Bane jump onto the first train. Dick quickly runs to the train and people begin running off as Dick jumps onto the middle cart. Bane runs to the controls and breaks it causing the train to begin pulling out fast. Gordon is able to jump onto the last car and Zucco jumped on two cars in front of Gordon’s.
As the empty train continues down the tracks Dick walks to the front. Suddenly he receives a bullet to the back and falls forward onto a seat. He turns to see Tony Zucco holding the smoking gun. Zucco notices Gordon running towards the car and he locks it behind him. Zucco walks up to Dick aiming the gun and Dick jumps up kicking Zucco and then he strips the gun from Zucco’s hand and bashes him in the face. He punches him twice in the stomach and then in the face. He picks him up and throws him against the door. He grabs Zucco by his hair and bashes his face against the floor. Zucco lies on the floor and Dick kicks him twice in the side and once in the face, “ple…pleas…please…stop,” says Zucco struggling on the floor.
“Please…please…no Zucco. Manners won’t help you here. I’ve been waiting to see you again so I can finally get the chance to make you feel even a fraction of the pain you caused me.”
“I’m sorry,” says Zucco in a light almost silent voice.
“No Zucco,” Dick raises the gun at Zucco.
Gordon pounds on the door and tries breaking open the window with no avail, “DON’T DO IT,” yells Gordon, but Dick can’t hear him.
Dick stands with the gun in his hand staring at the beaten and battered Zucco.
Gordon continues pounding on the door yelling for Dick not to do it.
“You deserve to feel punishment and pain. You deserve to yell in anguish as you feel the life leave your body. You deserve to die Zucco,” says Dick aiming the gun at Zucco, “but not by my hand. Don’t mistake it Zucco I want to kill you, but I can’t,” Dick throws the gun out the window and walks towards Gordon and he hears a bang from behind him.
He turns to see Bane holding a pistol, “you can thank me later,” says Bane. He throws an explosive at the floor causing their carts to separate and his to blaze forward as Dick’s car and the rest slow to a stop. Dick looks down at the body and then runs out of the car.
Gordon gets off the train wiping the sweat from his face. He looks around as more cops arrive and suddenly he receives a hit to the back of his head sending him to the ground unconscious.
Dick gets back to the cave and throws his mask to the floor. He falls into the chair in front of the computer and stares at the floor. Alfred walks in and rests his hand on Dick, “whatever you did Dick. It’s understandable.”
“No Alfred…I didn’t do anything. That’s the point. Zucco died…but not from my hand.”
“It’s alright Richard, it takes more to resist than to go through with it.”
“Alfred…tell me the truth…you knew I wouldn’t go through with it didn’t you.”
Alfred pauses for s second, “you’re an extraordinary young man Richard, but you’re caught in bad times. You’re not a killer. You’re more like Bruce Wayne than you’ll ever imagine. To kill someone on the inner circle is almost unimaginable.”
“The inner circle?” Dick starts typing on the computer and pulling up the files on the police, “Gordon didn’t list his inner circle on this list.” Dick pulls up a file of Bruce’s and gets up in a scare, “I know who the Riddler is,” says Dick. He runs to the batpod and blasts off.
Gordon awakens in a dark sewer like cellar. He turns to see Bullock and Nashton sitting in opposite corners. The space is very small and the only light comes from the sewer grate two feet above. Gordon turns to a wall to see something written, “Riddle me this: Who Among Us Is the Riddler? That Has Always Been the True Enigma,” says Gordon reading the wall, “one of you is the Riddler.” As Gordon states this he feels water entering the space from a hole in the wall.
“Isn’t it obvious Gordon. It’s him,” says Bullock.
“Me…what are you talking about Bullock. I’m one of the greatest police officers in the country how dare you accuse me.”
“Yeah the greatest of the country then how come I’ve never heard of you.”
“I never took you for the reader Bullock.”
“STOP. Both of you. We need to figure this out.”
Nashton searches his pockets and finds a small revolver.
“Holy shit, see Gordon he is the Riddler.”
“No…I don’t know where this came from,” says Nasthon. Suddenly the water begins seeping in faster.
Dick races down the street on the batpod blazing past cars.
The water is now at their knees, “Put down the gun Edward,” says Gordon.
“No…how…how do I know you’re not the Riddler,” says Nashton.
“Please Nashton…give me the gun,” says Gordon.
Nasthon aims the gun at Bullock, “I should kill him right Jim. I know I’m not the Riddler and I know you’re not either. So it has to be him.”
“Yeah cause I’d beat my own face in,” says Bullock.
“We don’t know,” says Nashton, “no one saw you get beaten. No one saw the Riddler at the Arkham killing but you…supposedly.”
Gordon looks at Bullock with a look of betrayal, “don’t trust him Gordon. He’s crazy.”
“I’m not the killer!”
“I’m not the one waving the gun at everyone.” The water gets higher and Gordon looks about the room, “you ever find the last riddle Gordon. I bet not cause there never was one. Nashton came up with it on the spot.”
“I can’t trust either of you. Better just kill both and save me the problem,” says Nashton
Dick gets to a house and parks the pod. He runs to the house breaking open the door. He gets inside and looks about the house to see newspaper clippings all over the wall. Most about the Batman, but some about Falcone, Reese, Fox, and Crane. As he walks deeper into the house he notices more articles about the police as he walks down a dark hall he notices the articles are all about Gordon. He gets to a door to find it bolted shut.
Nashton looks to Bullock and then to Gordon. He aims the gun at Bullock and shoots him. Bullock takes the bullet and collapses face first into the water, “HARVEY,” yells Gordon. He grabs his body and tries to keep his head above water.
Behind him Nashton holsters the gun and takes out a bowler from his jacket and puts it on his head. Then he reaches into his pocket and takes out a short pole that he pulls open to make into a cane. He begins laughing and Gordon turns to him, “Nashton.”
“No Gordon I am much more of an E…nigma.”
“Nigma…Enigma,” says Gordon.
“I applaud you Commissioner you have learned a lot from Nashton. Poor thing that fool had to be such a worry wart though, he almost kept it a secret this time without having to kill anyone on the force.”
“I’m sorry sir,” says Nashton.
“You apologize every time Nashton. I’m getting sick of your incompetence,” says Nigma talking to Nasthon.
“The whole time Nashton, you were…you were the Riddler?”
“Nashton,” Riddler breaks into a harsh laughter, “no commissioner Nashton is a poor fool I must deal with in order to complete my goal.”
“Please Riddler. I did well this time. I kept the cops off you and, and kept cops from discovering us.”
“Nashton look at the last murder…you forgot to leave the riddle. You almost got us found out by this infuriatingly large idiot. You were always so weak. But tell me Gordon did you take the time to analyze the last riddle Gordon?”
Dick walks down the hall to a bolted door and finds that the newspaper clipping are about Gordon, then we flash to Gordon and Nigma in the water, “a person who serves to protect and protects to serve…who watches from buildings and fasts cars. There are many like me but none as great as I. I was born to help those in need, but over the years my purpose has been lost. All seemingly pointing to the Bat, but in the end it was about you Gordon. You were getting too close to discovering us. I knew you would so you became my last target.” The water comes up to Gordon’s chest and he fights to keep balance in the water. “Too bad you were born on the short end, while I was born tall.”
Dick pounds on the door placing explosives against it.
“But you were right Gordon. My purpose was to discover who the Batman was. And I know who he is. Would you like to know?”
“You’re insane. Who would believe you?”
“Insane…possibly….A genius…without question.”
“Every murder has led to Batman. His first mob encounter, Falcone. His first terrorist, Scarecrow. The man that would reveal him, Colmen Reese. The man that would serve as his partner that would be you Gordon. Would you like to know Lucius Fox’s purpose in the story?” Gordon struggles to get above water as it gets over his head. Suddenly a blast is heard.
Dick runs down the stairs with great haste. He sees the sewer grate and Riddler begins shooting at him. Dick moves out of the way and stumbles back. He takes out two explosives from his belt and sticks them to the sewer grate. The grate explodes open and Dick shoots down two cables from his pole and pulls up Bullock’s body with one and Gordon with the other. He pulls up Bullock and as he takes out Gordon Riddler grabs onto the cable and pulls down on it. Gordon kicks Riddler off of him and Dick’s hand slips pressing a button on his pole that sends an electric shock to the tip of the cable hitting Riddler in the hand and sending electricity through the water and around Riddler. He screams in pain as Dick pulls up Gordon. They stare at the water as Riddler continues screaming in pain and falls into the water.
“How’d you know,” asks Gordon.
“No one else on your force added up. I looked at Bruce’s research on your force and found that Nashton used to go by Nigma. He used to be a game creator until his wife and children were murdered. He’s been going to different cities playing different games with people trying to find the man that killed his family. In New York they called him Cluemaster, here they call him the Riddler. Same guy, but different game. He came up with Nashton as a new Identity so he could become a police officer and steal from police databases.”
Dick gets up and begins walking to the door, “thank you son. You did fine work. The Batman would be proud.” Dick nods and walks out of the basement.
Dick blasts through the street heading back to base when suddenly a rocket hits the pod in the side sending Dick into a wall. He gets up to see Bane, “WHAT DO YOU WANT!” Demands Dick getting up from the rubble.
“Come on kid stop trying to play the masked crusader act. You can’t pull it off.”
“I will when I’m pulling the knife from your chest.”
“Big words from such a weak fellow. You couldn’t even kill Zucco. I come with a proposal.”
“I don’t want shit from you.”
“No you’ll want this. You see I’ve been bored lately. All I do is send my men to do my bidding because there is no one out there to fight against me. My only real challenge was the bat. I know he’s not dead so I’ll give him…time to get better. I’ll stay quiet and keep planning while he finishes healing.”
“Why would you do that,” asks Dick.
“Because son…I came here for him not to serve as a crime boss. I want to end this as much as you do. So until he comes back I’ll stay quiet. Batman is a worthy adversary, and I want everyone to watch me take him down,” Bane turns and begins walking to a black motorcycle.
Dick watches him walk away and looks down at the destroyed batpod. He shoots a grapple up to the roof of the building next to him and disappears.
Dick gets back to the cave and finds Alfred. Dick moves to a sink and washes his face. Alfred asks him what happened and Dick tells him he has time to make a plan to take down Bane and that hopefully Bruce will choose to do the same. Dick walks to a bench and begins doing reps. Alfred tells him he has to sleep and Dick tells him he’ll sleep when this is all over. Dick begins working out hard and Alfred watches him. Then a training montage begins of Dick doing heavy workouts and fighting simple crime on the streets including gangs of black masked men. Then Bruce is shown working hard to get better and receiving training and medical help from Talia with clips of them becoming attracted to each other. He is shown pushing himself out of the wheel chair and slowly walking with the help of Talia. Dick is shown to be getting better and he begins making a new suit. He uses a softer and lighter material and he raises the torso of it up to the camera to show a blue bird like shape on the chest. Then Dick is shown taking a tarp off of a large object that looks like the body of a vehicle. He quickly begins working on it to perfect it. Then Dick is shown in the street taking out many different criminals at once with immense speed and force.
Bruce and Talia stand at the top of a mountain standing in front of a large temple. Bruce pants severely tired and out of breath holding himself up with a cane. Talia walks into the temple and Bruce follows behind her. They walk in and find a pit in the ground like a hot spring. The water inside is green and steaming. Bruce asks what it is and she tells him it’s an ancient remedy technique rumored that with a bath a person can revert to a young age and live forever with baths in the pit known as the Lazarus Pit. Bruce walks to the water and Talia tells him to get in. She pushes him into the water and he falls face forward. He struggles at first but then closes his eyes as he sinks deeper into the water. He remembers all the great things in his life. Alfred, Rachel, Vicki, and Lucius. All people that make his life worth living. Then he remembers the Batman and the what he symbolizes and the necessity for him to return to Gotham. Bruce gets to the bottom of the pit and pushes himself up. He finds he’s able to swim to the top of the water. He still feels the pain in his back but nothing like before. He gets to the surface and looks at Talia stating that he’s healed.
Bruce stands in his room packing up his things trying hard not to bend over or hurt himself. As he does Talia walks in, “how are you feeling Bruce?”
“Amazing…like my back was never broken. I mean it still hurts but I can move on my own. I couldn’t have done it without you.”
Talia gets close to him grabbing him by the waste, “you were strong before you came here…” Bruce goes in for a kiss and she moves to his ear, “Batman.”
Bruce freezes and moves back, “what?”
“I know who you are Bruce. I’ve known for a while. Ever since my father.”
“What are you talking about?”
“Does the League of Shadow ring a bell?”
Bruce freezes and looks at her, “Ra’s Al Ghul.”
“Yes…my father. And the line of succession makes me the leader of the league. I have led the branch in Japan for years. Now I own it all. And I finally get the chance to get my revenge.”
“Then why fix me,” asks Bruce growing angry.
“Because I wanted it to be a fair fight.”
She jumps at him and he grabs her and throws her into a closet. He charge out of the room carrying his bag and is met by shadow men at the stairs he throws his bag at one and pushes him down the stairs knocking five down the stairs. Bruce jumps over the balcony where five more approach him. He punches one in the face and throws him into another. He elbows back hitting one in the face and then punches another in the stomach and then again in the face. He moves to the door and Talia shoots at him from behind. She runs to him and punches him in the back. He cries in pain and falls to the floor. He turns on his back and kicks her in the stomach. She stomps on his stomach and Bruce grabs her foot and throws her into a tree. He gets up in pain and runs to her aiming a punch at her face but she dodges it and he punches the tree. She kicks him in the back and he falls against the tree. He pushes off hitting her and she stumbles back. She backs up close to a cliff and Bruce knocks her in the chin. She falls back stumbling off the edge of the cliff. She falls down grabbing the edge of the cliff for dear life, “thanks for the help Talia, but I’m going back to Gotham.” Bruce turns walking away
“You just gonna leave me here? BRUCE! YOU’RE A COWARD. I HOPE THE MAN THAT DID THAT TO YOU FINISHES YOU OFF.” Bruce gets on a motorcycle parked next to the temple and drives off.
Dick sits at the kitchen table eating a bowl of cereal watching the news report about the current mob war. It talks about how the crew led by the large man in the wrestling mask has been nearly out of sight for the past 3 weeks and that Black Masks’s crew has been steadily weakening due to the work of the new dark enforcer of the streets. Dick smiles at the last part, “do you still feel like a failure,” asks Alfred walking into the room.
Dick shrugs his shoulders with a smile, “a little less, but hey what can I say I guess I was just born for this.”
“So do you think you can retire the suit?”
“Not just yet Alfred.”
“Come on Richard I thought my worries were going to end.”
“They will Alfred. Very soon.” Dick puts his bowl into the sink and walks towards the elevator, “I got some more work to do before tonight so hold all my calls and tell my visitors I’m not home,” jokes Dick.
“Just like his predecessor. A foolish big headed kid.”
Gordon sits with Bullock in the MCU where Bullock is changing the bandage of the place Riddler shot him, “you shouldn’t be working Bullock,” says Gordon staring at Bullock’s bandaged wound.
“Come on Comish. If you didn’t have me who would you have?”
“He has me,” says Renee Montoya walking up to them.
“Bullock do you know Detective Montoya,” asks Gordon with a smile.
“Oh yeah the girl that lost the Batman’s dead body,” says Bullock.
“Yeah well you’re the guy that didn’t know his partner was a serial killer.”
“In my defense the guy didn’t even think he was the Riddler,” says Bullock.
“I see a great partnership in the making,” jokes Gordon.
Black Masks sits in his office surrounded by his masked men, “I started out with two hundred men…I have fifty-two now. If this kid keeps taking out my men I’ll be looking like Thorne soon.”
“We got to do something boss,” says a masked man.
“Yeah no shit, but what do we do,” asks Black Mask?
“I got an idea boss,” says the man.
“Then speak up before I get bored of you.”
“Well you said you got fifty or so men left…why not make them count. There’s rumor the Bat might come back. Why not spend the rest of our men taking out this guy and if the Bat really is coming back he’ll come out of his hiding place to protect the city. Once people see how you took both of them out there won’t be a question of who runs this city.”
Black Mask lies back in his chair thinking for a moment, “that is the dumbest plan I have ever heard…I like it.”
Dick looks out a window as the sunsets. Alfred walks up behind him and Dick looks to him and then back out the window, “how can something with such beauty lead to such darkness,” asks Alfred.
“I guess that’s just the way things go,” says Dick.
“You think something will happen tonight,” asks Alfred.
“Of course Alfred, but tonight I’m ready. I’m going to stop whatever gets in my way. Tonight the only person left standing is going to be me. Not Black Mask, Not Bane. Only me.”
“Well be careful Master Dick.”
“Master Dick? You never called me that before.”
“Well you work to keep this city protected while Bruce is hurt. You protect a life altering secret. You stopped a group of hooligans from robbing me naked. You’re part of this family Master Dick.”
Dick looks at him with a happy smile.
“I’d hate to ruin this moment,” says a voice from the door. They turn to see Bruce, “but we got stuff to do before tonight.” Alfred walks to him giving him a hug. Alfred gets tears in his eyes and says he’s going to prepare dinner. As he walks out he looks to Bruce with a smile and throws his arms around him, “thanks god your back sir.” Alfred lets go straightening himself and leaves.
“Good to see you on your feet,” says Dick.
“Yeah well someone had to come clean up whatever mess you made.”
“Mess? I caught the Riddler. I’m cleaning this city up,” smiles Dick.
“You ready for tonight,” asks Bruce?
“Just another day on the job,” says Dick.
“Then lets go get ready,” Bruce puts up his hand for a high five. Dick takes it and they hug, “Sidekick.”
“What do you mean sidekick I’m at least partner.”Bruce smiles and walks out of the room, “yeah okay walk away but we’re gonna talk about this later.”
The get to the batcave and Bruce looks around and remembers being thrown around by Bane and the rubble that was left in the cave. Dick notices his shock and asks if Bruce is alright and Bruce assures him that he is. Then he asks Dick what he’s been working on and Dick shows him the suit.
Bruce looks at it with a face of wonderment “It’s faster, more mobile, and if you ask me a lot cooler,” says Dick.
Bruce turns away and walks back to the entrance. Dick follows him and Bruce pulls a paper out of his pocket, “I need these things done before tonight.”
“Well then you better get started,” says Dick looking at the note repulsed.
“I have other things to do before tonight. Just get these things done please,” says Bruce stepping into the elevator.
“Wow and I was excited to get him back,” says Dick walking back to the work bench.
Bruce is shown driving down a dark and tree covered area. As he drives out of the area he is shown next to a cemetery. He turns into it and parks next to two large stones. He gets out of the car and stands before them and they are shown to be that of Martha and Thomas Wayne. Bruce passes his hand over his face feeling sad, “um…hey mom…hey dad. I know it’s been a while since I’ve visited but…” Bruce freezes up, “well I’m here now.” Bruce looks at his father’s stone, “I’m sorry dad…for…everything.” Bruce looks around feeling awkward, “I’ll come back again…soon.” Bruce turns back to his car and begins walking away. He freezes for a moment and turns back around with pain in his eyes, “you know I never wanted this life. I never wanted to be a rich asshole living off the glory of his parents. I mean did you guys ever think when I was a baby that maybe I wouldn’t turn out like you dad. That maybe I wanted to do something else with my life…you know people always say how shameful you would be of me, but maybe I never tried to be like you cause I can’t be like you. The Bruce Wayne I show people…that isn’t me…it kills me to act that way. It feels like I’m wearing a mask…and that it’s slowly melting away and my true form is being revealed. I’m not Bruce Wayne dad…I’m…I’m the Batman,” Bruce lets out a small chuckle, “that’s it…I’m the Batman…I always have been…even before I put on the suit…I was born this way. Tonight might be my last night on the streets and if it is…I just wanted to tell you this. Now I gotta go cause I got less than four hours before night and I have other things to do. I love you guys…thank you both…for everything. I promise you that if I survive the night, I promise to fight for whats right no matter what gets in my way….thats what I can do for you. I hope you can be proud of that.” Bruce walks back to his car slamming the door and driving away.
The front door of a house is shown as Vicki Vale opens it. She sees Bruce and throws her arms around him, “Bruce!”
“Hey Vicki, I’ve missed you so much. I hope you didn’t think I was never going to call you again.”
“Well it did cross my mind, but I’m just glad your back. With all the stuff happening out there it’s scary when you can’t hear from someone. Especially someone as big as you.”
“How have you been doing,” asks Bruce concerned.
“I’ve been alright. I’ve been working on the Riddler case but I can’t seem to find any information on him. Ever since it was dubbed a police secret no one can get information on it. Cops won’t even take bribes for the information.” Vicki looks at Bruce’s face that turns from happy to blank.
“What’s wrong Bruce,” asks Vicki.
“Vicki…I care about you a lot. And I know its weird cause we haven’t known each other for long…but with the way things are I didn’t want something to happen without me being able to tell you.”
“I care about you too Bruce.”
“What about when all this craziness ends with the mob, we go on a trip, somewhere nice.”
“Wow that kid was right you do like going on trips.”
“I guess so,” says Bruce.
“Who is that kid Bruce,” asks Vicki.
“He’s a…a friend that got stuck in bad times because of the current situation so I let him stay at my house for a while. He’s a good kid though.”
“Look at you Bruce letting people in your life.”
“It’s times like these we have to look at our lives and think about the things that are important to us. Vicki I have to go…if something happens tonight…know that I…I loved you.”
“What are you talking about Bruce? What’s going to happen?”
“Just know that Vicki…I love you.”
“I love you too Bruce.”
Bruce leaves and Vicki watches him drive away concerned.
Bruce gets back to the cave and finds Dick staring at the computer, “Bruce finally you’re back. I finished the list. Anything else you want? A chi tea and foot rub perhaps,” jokes Dick.
“Thanks Dick…for everything.”
“No sweat.”
“No Dick…you way surpassed my expectations. I expected to come back and find you dead.”
“Well that’s great to hear,” chuckles Dick.
“No but really…thank you.”
“No problem…partner.”
“Partner?” laughs Bruce walking to his suit that is now painted gray and black, “I was thinking sidekick.”
“Sidekick! I could wipe the floor with you,” Bruce laughs looking at his new suit, “whats with the new color scheme?”
“When I wore black I wore it so people would fear me. So that when I encountered people they would think of me as the epitome of darkness. But by doing this I even made the people I swore to protect fear me. Hopefully wearing brighter colors will help people accept me.”
On the streets of Gotham cars are driving at the usual pace when suddenly large black vans park in front of a stop light. An old man yells for it to move when suddenly a man in a black mask takes a machine gun out the window and fires at the cars. Across town more black vans are pulling up to stop lights and firing from the windows.
Bruce and Dick stand starring at each other in the middle of a square shitless ready to fight, “hope you’re back’s feeling better. Cause I don’t want to be the guy that makes you paralyzed,” smiles Dick.
“Just fight Dick,” says Bruce. As Dick gets ready to kick a video pops up on the screen, “HELLLOOOOOOOOOO GOTHAM,” yells the voice of Black Mask, “for those of you that don’t know me my name is Black Mask…and I come with a final stand. See Gotham I’ve been trying to make this city better by pitting gangs against each other to the death but I don’t get any recognition. No thanks or nothing. This depresses me. Angers me as well. So in return for my depression I have taken my fifty-two remaining men and put them on the street TO KILL ANYONE AND EVERYONE. COME ON GOTHAM GET READY TO LIVE IN NO MAN’S LAND.” The video feed ends and Dick and Bruce stand frozen.
“Finish this later,” asks Dick.
“Absolutely,” replies Bruce.
In a flash they get in their suits. Bruce wears his new gray and black suit and Dick wears an all black suit with a blue bird across the chest. Bruce stares at him for a moment, “what do you call yourself.”
“Nightwing. You like it,” asks Nightwing?
“A bit theatrical, but respectable. The pod’s dead so you wanna take the Lamborghini.”
“No I got something a little more up our alley,” says Nightwing ripping a tarp off a new sleek vehicle.
“Get in I’m driving,” says Batman.
They blast out of the cave speeding faster than ever down the street.
Black Mask sits in a leather chair on top of a tall building watching his men take out civilians across town. He tales a sip from his wine, “beautiful night isn’t it,” says Mask to one of his goons, “I think it is.”
Batman speeds to a place where the police are stationed. He screeches to a stop and they jump out and walk to Gordon and Bullock, “What’s the situation,” asks Batman.
Gordon is stunned to see Batman, “Um…fifty some guys taking out everyone in sight. They set up large vans as blockades around the area. If Mask was telling the truth we have to take out all fifty-two guys. And he’s asking for you Batman.”
“Where do I find him,” asks Batman.
“Why don’t you look up,” says Bullock. They look up to see a sign ready ‘BATMAN NOW’.
“I’ll go up the building and confront Mask. Nightwing I need you taking out the masked men and taking people to safety.”
“Got it.”
“Tonight we take this guy down,” says Batman. He shoots his grapple up the building and begins flying up. He gets to a fire escape and begins climbing up.
Nightwing jumps over a black van and begins taking out masked men. They shoot furiously at him and he dives behind cars for cover. He takes out large batarangs and throws them at the crowd and they explode throwing masked men around. Nightwing finds a family in a car and begins walking them back to the police.
Batman gets to the top of the building to find Black Mask drinking wine with four goons around him, “Batman,” says Mask raising his arms, “great to finally meet you.”
“I’m here to take you in,” says Batman.
“Not happening.” Mask signals for his men to attack Batman. They’re larger than most henchmen and fight like mercenaries. They swing fast punches and kicks and Batman barely evades them. One henchman grabs him and throws him to anther that knocks him to the ground, “ouch Batman that looked like it hurt.”
Nightwing sees a group of masked men barge into a house and he chases after them. He takes out another with a swipe to the head and then presses a button on the pole turning it into a tazer and shocks another unconscious. Then he swing kicks one into another. He walks up stairs to find a little girl huddled in a corner, “come with me,” says Nightwing. He picks her up and begins running out of the house. As more masked men come for him he throws more explosive batarangs to get them away. A masked man jumps in front of him and he punches Nightwing in the mouth almost causing him to drop the girl. He bends over and kicks backwards hitting the guy in the face. He leads the girl to a cop that takes her behind the barricade.
Batman is shown bleeding from his mouth and stumbling on the roof. One of the goons jumps at him and he moves aside to dodge and then turns kicking the man in the back. The guy almost falls off the building but Batman shoots a grapple into his leg and ties the other end to the roof hanging the man over the side. Another henchman runs at him and he pushes him into a vent and then kicks him in the chest. Another henchman picks up a broken vent and throws it at Batman hitting him in the side and sending him to the ground. Then the man picks him up by his face and begins throwing him but Batman stabs a batarang into his hand and then kicks him off the building but catches him with a grapple and hangs him from the side of the building as well. “One left Mask…get ready cause you’re next.” Mask puts down his cup and tells the last goon to attack.
Nightwing continues taking out men left and right, “Gordon,” says Nightwing into the communicator.
“Yes,” asks Gordon.
“We started with 52, how many do you think are left,” asks Nightwing panting.
“Probably around 25.”
Nightwing lets out a deep breath and continues fighting.
Batman takes down the last man by bashing his face into the roof until he falls unconscious, “your turn Mask,” says Batman moving in front of Mask.
“Wait…before you attempt to bash my face into a pulp I have a few things to say,” says Mask. Batman doesn’t respond and Mask continues, “you know I started thinking that this would be an easy task. You know pit the mob against itself, distract you and then have my guy take you out.” Batman looks surprised to find that Black Mask is with Bane, “oh yeah Bane’s a friend. Actually it’s a funny story. I was taking a trip to Santa Prisca. An island off of South America and found him in a prison. Supposedly he was a mercenary until he killed his boss and got thrown in prison. I looked at him and saw potential. Potential to take out the great hero of Gotham…but as we can see I wasn’t exactly correct.” Black Mask gets up and steps in front of Batman, “so come on…hit me.” Behind his back Mask presses a button on his gloves that brings out small blades on his knuckles. Batman begins to move forward and Mask punches him in the face stabbing the blades into Batman’s cheek. He takes back his fist and then stabs him again on the other side of his face. Batman stumbles back and Mask does a spinning high kick to Batman’s face.
Nightwing continues fighting counting down from nine as he takes guys out. He gets to zero and gets the confirmation from Gordon that all men are taken out. Nightwing looks up the building that Batman and Black Mask are on.
Black Mask kicks his heels and blades come out the soles. He winds back his feet and hits Batman in the stomach and he screams in pain, “Wow this is ironic. I paid a huge brute to kill you,” Mask takes out a revolver and aims it at Batman, “and I’m gonna be the one to kill you. A little poetic isn’t it.” Nightwing jumps onto the roof kicking Mask in the back of the head. He grabs his gun and knocks him in the back of the head, “you’re done Mask.” He grabs Mask by his hands and steps on his back. He takes out a pair of handcuffs in the shape of bats and cuffs Mask. Batman gets up and Nightwing asks him if he’s alright and Batman tells him he is. Nightwing picks up Mask and begins walking him off the building as his cellphone begins to ring, “I think someone should answer that,” says Mask.
Batman takes the phone from Black Mask’s pocket, “Who is this.”
“Batman…long time isn’t it,” says Bane.
“Where are you,” says Batman stunned.
“You know I feel kind of bored in Gotham. I’m at Gothan harbor. Be here in 20 or I’m gone,” The call ends and Batman throws the phone to the ground in anger.
“You owe me a new phone,” says Mask.
“SHUT UP,” yells Nightwing.
Batman runs to the edge of the building and jumps off shooting a grapple to the roof as he does. He gets to the floor and Nightwing drops down shortly after. He hands Mask to Gordon, “one masked psychopath hot and ready,” says Nightwing as he runs to the bat mobile. They jump in and blast off.
Batman and Nightwing get back to the cave and Batman tells Nightwing to get out, “Batman let me come with you.”
“Not this time Dick.”
“But Batman I can help you.”
“I know you can, but this is my fight.” Batman closes the door and blasts out of the cave.
“Don’t worry Master Dick,” says Alfred coming up behind him, “he never lets me come on missions either.”
Batman is shown blasting down the street with 10 minutes left. Then Bane is shown on the back of a yacht looking out on the docks waiting for Batman. He looks down at his watch and moves to the front of the boat.
Batman gets to the docks and notices he has 2 minutes left. He sees the boat begin to pull out and pushes the thrust to make the car go faster. Then he pushes the hydraulics and presses the eject button to propel himself out of the car and to the boat. He opens his cape as he gets closer to the boat and lands safely, “Batman…nice to see you up and about again,” says Bane.
“This is over Bane…I’m taking you in,” says Batman.
“No Batman, this will never be over. I’m the future…I’m your future.”
Batman runs towards Bane and jump kicks at him but Bane doges it and throws him into a support beam that cracks. Batman gets up in pain and jumps up hitting Bane in the chin. Then he punches him again in the stomach and kicks him in the chin. Batman goes for another punch but Bane grabs it and whips him around and then kicks him in the back causing Batman to fly into the railing of the boat and whale in pain from his back, “Ouch Batman I forgot about your bad back,” smiles Bane walking over to him, “maybe I should just make it numb.” Bane grabs Batman by the back of his head and smashes it against the boat. Then he does it again but Batman pushes up hitting Bane in the head with his head then elbowing him in the face. Bane falls to the boat and Batman gets up kicking him in the side.
Batman regains his composure as Bane gets up laughing, “Batman, to tell you the truth…I never thought you were dead. I always had a hunch that you would come back. You’re strong and good willed…just like your father.”
Batman freezes for a moment stunned, “you didn’t know my father.”
“Oh yes I did. He never told you about his stint in Santa Prisca,” a flash back begins with Bane narrating, “your father traveled there in order to open a new plant. He knew that he could get by making the people on our island work for shit wages. He had us making his toys for less than a dollar an hour. Now I was around 20, and had just come out of the service due to some problems I had with my leaders. I guess you could say I don’t take orders very well. So when I was working in the plant I decided I couldn’t take it anymore and started a revolt against the people that employed us. Which of course included your father. We attacked and killed everyone that got in our way. The last one was your father,” Bane begins laughing, “he held himself up in a little broom closet for hours until we found him. It really showed what a coward he was.”
Batman runs at Bane swinging furious punches. He hits Bane twice in the face and then Bane grabs him by his fists and pushes him to the ground, “so as I was saying your father was stuck in the broom closet. So when I finally found him I was ready to tear him to shreds with my bare hands. But as I got ready a Federal knocked me in the back of the head with his gun taking me out. The next thing I remember was being locked away in that shit hole prison that I STAYED IN FOR 10 YEARS. So believe me when Black Mask got me out of prison I finally got the chance to get out of prison and go to Gotham I immediately started looking for your father. And low and behold who his son was.”
“What are you trying to do Bane? Spit lies so I lose my control and allow you kill me. That won’t work.”
“Oh it’s not lies Batman. But believe what you will. Because in the end I’ll get my revenge.”
Batman and Bane get in a long battle. Each delivery their fair shares of deadly blows. Batman grabs Bane by his arm and then twists him around stabbing a batarang into his back. Bane grunts in pain and then grabs Batman his neck and throws him through a wooden door in the floor. Batman crashes down to find pounds of explosives lining the bottom of the boat. Bane jumps down and looks to Batman, “call it insurance.” They continue fighting, each trying very hard not to trigger an explosive. Suddenly Bane gets the upper hand and throws Batman to the floor, “I’m gonna end this,” Bane grabs a pistol sitting on a barrel of gasoline, “once and for all.” He aims the gun at Batman and shoots him in the side. Batman grunts in pain and lies on the floor defeated. Bane grabs him by face and brings him up to his, “I always win.” Bane throws Batman’s face back down and begins walking towards the door above
“Wait,” says Batman bleeding on the floor, “you’re not gonna defeat me…you’ll never get the chance.”
“Yeah,” says Bane turning back to Batman, “and why is that.”
“Because,” Batman secretly takes out a batarang, “you’re about to drown.” Batman throws the batarang at an explosive next to Bane’s leg triggering it and sending an explosion ripping through the bottom of the boat.
The explosion tears through the entire lower part of the ship and begins tearing down the top as well and the boat begins sinking. Batman is shown with a torn suit sinking into the water with his eyes closed. He remembers all the great moments he had in his life. From memories with his parents and Rachel to fighting with Dick and kissing Vicki. Then he imagines his father, “dad, I tried.”
“I know you did son…and you did well.”
“I’m finally going to see you and mom again.”
“Yes you will son…but not yet. You still have important things to do in Gotham…people that need saving. You can’t give up now. You have to get up.”
Batman feels himself moving and opens his eyes to see Nightwing pulling him up to the surface. Nightwing gets above water and takes deep breaths trying to regain air, “told you you’d need me Batman,” says Nightwing.
“I have to find Bane,” says Batman starting to dive under water until Nightwing grabs him.
“NO BATMAN…HE’S DEAD.”
“I HAVE TO KNOW FOR SURE.”
“I KNOW HE IS. I SAW HIS BODY SINK. HE COULDN’T HAVE SURVIVED. NOW LET’S GO.” Batman stares at the water and Nightwing begins pulling him towards a motorboat, “WE HAVE TO GO.” Batman nods and they swim to the boat and take off towards the docks.
Batman drives them down the street, “so how long were you watching,” asks Batman staring at the road.
“I only missed the ten minutes it took me to get there,” Batman nods still driving, “we’re partners Batman…I would never let you go into something like this alone.”
“Thank you Dick.”
“No problem Bruce. I see this as start to a great partnership,” says Dick laying back in his seat.
Batman and Nightwing get back to the cave and park the car. They jump out and move to the computer where Alfred stands watching the news. People celebrate in the streets as they talk about the end of the mob war. They say that the police have apprehended the terrorist known as Black Mask and that an exoploded yacht was just found in Gotham Lake that was rumored to have Bane aboard. The reporter then asks for a quote from one of the celebrators and they say that they finally feel safe and that Gotham is finally a place he can call home again. The reporter asks why he feels that way and the man yells that he feels secure knowing the Batman is back. Then he begins chanting Batman and the rest of the crowd continues the chant. Batman stares at the TV with a blank look on his face, “come on sir no smile,” says Alfred nudging Bruce on the arm.
“Dick we got one more stop to make,” says Batman moving back to the car
“What are you talking about everyone is either dead or going to jail?”
“Let’s go Dick,” says Batman getting into the car as Dick runs behind him.
Gordon and Bullock sit in the MCU drinking a beer together, “what a night,” says Bullock.
“What a month,” says Gordon.
“You know reporters are talking about the chance of a pardon. You think that’ll happen,” asks Bullock.
“It’s a possibility?”
“Hopefully not,” remarks Bullock.
“Why such hate towards the Bat I mean he did just save the day,” says Gordon before taking another swig.
“Exactly! People keep saying the Batman and his friend saved the day, but what about us. Not like we weren’t busting our asses out there.”
Gordon stares out the window and then turns back to Bullock, “yeah, but give credit where credit is due.”
“Are you kidding me comish,” asks Bullock.
Gordon turns back to the window and spots the light of a bat signal in the sky. He gets up and tells them to follow.”
They get to the roof to find Batman and Nightwing standing next to a new bat signal, “I bet it wouldn’t mean anything if I said you were under arrest,” says Bullock.
“I don’t think you’d catch us either way,” says Nightwing.
“The situation contained,” asks Batman.
“Well…the Riddler is being treated in Arkham, Penguin was found dead in his office, and Black Mask is being taken to Arkham as we speak. The only thing left is Bane.”
“He drowned,” says Nightwing.
“You sure of that,” asks Bullock.
“The boat that exploded in Gotham Lake…he was on it with Batman. I saved Batman and saw Bane drown,” says Nightwing.
“Who’s the kid Bats,” asks Bullock.
“Nightwing,” says Nightwing.
“What do we do now,” asks Gordon?
“We keep doing what we did before and get ready for what’s to come,” says Batman, “We get ready for anything that comes our way. Tonight…people’s prayers for peace and justice were answered.” A montage of people smiling and hugging each other is shown, “after years of pain and woe, people can finally feel a sense of happiness and hope for better days,” Arkham Asylum is shown and the Riddler’s unconscious body is shown being treated, “But that doesn’t mean evil won’t come back.” A middle-aged man is shown being walked to a cell in a straight jacket. As the man is put away a label is put on the door reading Roman Sionis/Black Mask, “as we speak someone somewhere is planning a murder or robbery, but when it happens we’ll be ready. You need me Gordon? You got my communicator.”Batman and Nightwing begin walking to the ledge.
“It’s great to have you back Batman,” says Gordon with a smile.
Batman turns back to Gordon with a nod. Batman shoots his grapple at a building then Nightwing does the same and they swing away falling into the bat mobile.
“About the pardon Bullock…I don’t think it would matter. He’ll always be here for us.” Batman is shown driving down the street, “Whether we love him or fear him, he’ll protect us because he’s the hero we deserve…and now we can embrace him cause he’s the hero we need,” Dick and Bruce are shown wearing nothing but workout pants standing in a battle stance against each other. They begin fighting and are evenly matched, “Dark days will come but with him and his ward, we can be optimistic of the future,” Bruce is shown walking to Vicki’s door and as she opens it she throws her arms around him and they embrace in a loving hug that turns into a passionate kiss. Then Gordon is shown in front of his house hugging his family, “the future may scare some, but it’s how we choose to welcome it that matters, but with him there is hope for the future. Because he’s our hero. The caped crusader, the dark knight…The Batman.”
Movie ends and credits roll.

After the credits Thorne is shown with his men, “Everyone is gone, Bane, Black Mask, Penguin. Anyone that could stand in our way is gone. Now some would take this as a warning, but I see it as the perfect chance to take over Gotham.” A knocks is heard at the door and a man walks in wearing a brown suit and glasses and carrying a suitcase, “who the hell are you?”
“My name is Matches Malone. I’m here with a proposition for you. Now if you tell your men to excuse us we can talk about it.”
Thorne tells his men to leave and they do, “if you’re here to offer to kill anyone or give you any of my money get out now cause I already made that mistake.”
“No…I have a proposition you’ll appreciate. Gotham is good the way it is now, without terrorists or mob bosses. I intend to keep it that way.”
“So what…you here to kill me?”
“No,” the man puts his suitcase on the table and opens it, “I’ll give you 4 million dollars to leave Gotham forever. No strings attached and no deals. I just want you gone.”
Thorne looks at the money, “that can’t be 4 million.”
“No this is just half a million. The rest is in a black car outside. It’s gassed up and ready for you to leave Gotham.” Matches gets up and puts out his hand to Thorne, “we have a deal?”
Thorne looks at him, “fine.” Thorne gets up and follows Matches, “I was getting sick of this city anyways.”
They get outside and Matches opens the trunk to show seven suitcases. He holds out the keys and Thorne takes them and gets into the car and drives away. Matches walks down the street to a Cadillac. He gets in the back, “he take it,” asks a voice from the front revealed to be Alfred.
“Was there ever a doubt,” asks Matches taking off wig and mustache to show Bruce.
“I guess not Master Wayne. Back to the house?”
“Yes Alfred,” they begin driving off and Bruce removes the glasses, “tomorrow I want to talk to child services about adopting Dick. You think that’s the right choice?”
“Two masked men fighting crime living in Wayne Manor. Bet that’s exactly what Thomas hoped for when he had it built.” Bruce smiles and they drive off as the screen fades to black.
