MAN OF STEEL Finally Gets Rated By The MPAA

The highly anticipated film finally gets rated by the MPAA; Intense sequences of sci-fi violence √, action and destruction √, strong language √. Sounds like a pretty good Superman movie in my book.

It may seem a bit early, but the MPAA gave the film its rating: Rated PG-13 For intense sequences of sci-fi violence, action and destruction, and for some language.

For comparison, Superman was PG for peril, some mild sensuality and language. Superman II was PG for sequences of action violence, some language and brief mild sensuality. Superman III was PG for sequences of action violence and mild language. Superman IV: The Quest for Peace was PG for alcohol use and action violence. Superman Returns was PG-13 for for some intense action violence.

Whelp, there you have it, should be interesting to see how the film as a whole, falls into place. The movie is stated for release on June 14th, 2013.






Man of Steel follows the Last Son of Krypton on his epic journey to become mankind's shinning beacon of hope for a brighter future. With the beliefs and values instilled by his adoptive parents Jonathan (Kevin Costner) and Martha (Diane Lane) Kent, a young Clark (Henry Cavill) sets out to find his place in the world. But when the nefarious General Zodd (Michael Shannon) arrives on Earth, Clark will have to choose between being a normal human or Kal-el,son of Jor-El (Russell Crowe) and humanity's greatest protector and champion. Filmed in IMAX and shot in Vancouver, Chicago and Plano, Illinois, Man of Steel will be released on June 14, 2013 by Warner Bros. Directed by Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen) with a screenplay by David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight) the Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight Rises, Inception) produced feature film will surely be the summer blockbuster of 2013.

Superman Returns is PG13 for intense action violence? I don't recall anything INTENSE about any of the action in the whole movie. Anyone else recall the action being intense in any way? The whole 4 minutes of it?

@6of13 he gets stabbed with a shard of kryptonite, and is then beaten to within an inch of his life. It's not a good movie but that alone constitutes 'intense action violence' by censorship standards, because a lot happens to a single character in a very short amount of time.

Anyway, action isn't that important to me, as long as the rest of the film is good. Action is a by-product of the rest of the film, and should only be there if it's necessary. Of course, it will be nice to see Superman throw a punch.

I think action is a VERY important element in a Superman movie, as long as it doesn't become the main thing. I mean, there's no need for pointless stupid Michael Bay-ish action, but I think that if you're making a movie about SUPERman, you have to show some SUPER stuff. Having amazing super-powers is something essential to the character, if you'll show Superman trying to find out who he is and dealing with his extraordinary abilities, you have to show what are these abilities. That's just obvious! If you're going to make a SUPERman movie and do not give him some chance to show the scope of his skills in action (and that's why we need a powerful villain), preferring to show him walking and talking... so what's the point? Don't call it "Man of Steel", call it "Regular Average Dude".

Of course, I repeat, that nobody wants to "Transformers the sh*t out of it", the action has to come from within the plot, not just action for the sake of action.

FINALLY gets rated??? You wrote that as if the movie was 5 days away, not 5 months! Hell, Avengers got the rating only two weeks or so before the opening!

And Avengers was PG-13 for Intense Sequences of Sci-Fi Violence and Action Throughout, and a Mild Drug Reference.

No mention of destruction (and there was plenty) So MOS must have some pretty extensive destruction going on for that to be mentioned.

Good enough rating. I hope to see some great action and super fights in MOS,but there has to be a good story behind it or it's just senseless violence. Superman FTW!

Why do ratings have anything to do with how good a movie is? I thought Watchmen was a decent film myself except for the unnecessary R content - I think it was the rating that kept audiences from watching it.

Man of Steel's cons .. written by Goyer (who sucks) and directed by Snyder (who makes mediocre films)

Ironman 3's cons.. plot regression, changing too much about Mandarin

The Wolverine's cons.. Fox's 1st and last Wolverine movie sucked.

Thor's con's.. taking a big chance on the writer and director.

Kick Ass's cons.. written and directed by Wadlow (who sucks even worse then Goyer)

Sin City's cons.. Jessica Alba sucks.
