FANTASTIC FOUR Reportedly Casting For Comic Relief And CGI Characters

It looks like the main cast of Marvel Studios' Fantastic Four reboot has pretty much been finalized, but we're hearing that two more supporting characters have yet to be added to the ensemble...

At this point, it's probably safe to say we all just want to know who is going to play the lead roles in Marvel Studios' Fantastic Four reboot and are getting more than a little fed up with the constant rumors.

We're hearing that an official announcement should be with us fairly soon, but until then, several reliable sources do believe that the four main parts have been nailed down.

The only actor to be reported on by the trades is Pedro Pascal, who recently dropped out of Zach Cregger's Weapons, supposedly to clear his schedule to start filming his scenes as Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic, later this year.

Daniel Richtman has heard that offers have gone out to Vanessa Kirby (Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning) as Sue Storm, aka the Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things) as Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Punisher, The Bear) as Ben Grimm, aka the Thing, but they may not be locked-in just yet.

The scooper is also reporting that casting is currently underway for two supporting parts: a male or female to play a comic relief character, and a male to provide the voice of a fully CGI character.

Will the FF reboot mark the big-screen debut of H.E.R.B.I.E.? Perhaps, but the little robot is just one of numerous possibilities.

As for the other principal roles, we have heard rumors that both Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer) and Mads Mikkelsen (Rogue One) are top picks to play Doctor Doom, but other actors are sure to be in contention.

The ruler of Latveria is not expected to have a significant role in the film (in fact, he may only show up in the post-credits scene), but the villain could well emerge as the new big bad of the Marvel Cinematic Universe - especially after the recent news that Marvel has decided to part ways with Kang actor Jonathan Majors.

Several well-placed sources have claimed that Doom will be one of the main villains of Avengers: Secret Wars.

Javier Bardem is said to be the top choice for Galactus, but his schedule may prevent him from signing on. The Eater of Worlds' herald is believed to be Silver Surfer, but a female take on the character. A recent rumor claimed that Anya Taylor-Joy is being eyed for that role, and Marvel is still said to be interested.

Matt Shakman will direct FF from a script by Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer. Plot details are still a mystery, but Kevin Feige has confirmed that this will not be another origin story for the super-team.

“A lot of people know this origin story. A lot of people know the basics. How do we take that and bring something that they’ve never seen before?” he said in a 2022 interview, comparing this new take on the heroes to Marvel Studios' pact with Sony to bring Spider-Man into the MCU. “We’ve set a very high bar for ourselves with bringing that to the screen.”

@DocSpock - I get the concern but also gotten to the point after so many rumors on this film I don't pay much attention to any of them and even if becoming more consistant aint buying anything from any as based on facts rather than self reinforcing fanfic.

However most good action films have some comedic moments in them so on it's own having comedic relief is not necessarily an issue. Having a comedic relief character could imply that they are taking the main four characters down a more serious path for instance otherwise there is ample potential for the comedic between Johnny and Thing alone (if thinking back to the better known couple of F4 films).

As such DO get the same 'Danger!!!' signs however without context or seeing the film if having something like HERBIE at points where a lighter tone is needed as a comic relief it could be a good sign that the team itself and action is in the main less comedic.

I mean we had a comedic robotic arm in the Iron Man films and that was never a problem even when other things were or for instance R2D2 and C3P0 were generaly considered a good and popular aspect of the original Star Wars trilogy so on it's own this may not be the thing to worry about.

I used to care about the Fantastic Four, but all these non stop rumour posts have turned me off the film completely.

Congratulations guys, you've helped to do more damage then good

@KaptainKhaos - of all the complaints I've seen on here, this might be my favourite. We've turned you off a movie by writing articles about it that nobody is forcing you to read. Genius

@KaptainKhaos -

That's a very weak mindset and I really hope you're exaggerating.

@MarkCassidy - It's okay now because I'm your favorite ❤️

But in all seriousness, I think it's just there's been such a barrage of constant unconfirmed rumour articles I kinda just stopped caring.

I guess I've just become old and miss the days when we only knew who was cast when it was official and we didn't know what happened in the movie until we saw it

@AmazingFILMporg - I won't deny that it's definitely weak, but I honestly don't find myself excited anymore

But even with my statement I'm still the least dramatic on the site lol

@KaptainKhaos - @KaptainKhaos
I understand both of you guys' points and believe both have are valid.
Constant articles based on rumors does get annoying. Like, 2 or 3 at the most over a period of time should suffice until there is concrete facts.
To the other point, the link to get to the article on the main page does warn you most of the time if it's a rumor article or if it contains spoilers. Thus, no one is forcing you to read it, especially if it's the 50th article of the day on the same subject.

@KaptainKhaos - i guess I get that to an extent. With this movie, it's just unfortunate that the process has been dragged out so long without an official announcement and rumors keep building.

Of course they are. It's Disney I wouldn't expect anything less from them.
When will they realize that comic humor isn't the cool thing to do these days.
Oh wells, let them sink their own ship.
Nolanite out
lazlodaytona
lazlodaytona - 1/12/2024, 3:52 AM
@Nolanite - I'm with you. WBs most successful superhero films were the Dark Knight trilogy and JOKER; darker films. Yes, Aquaman killed it but, as we've seen from the sequel, that was an anomaly.

Filling any film with tons of camp is a recipe for disaster, unless that was what they were going for outright (Dumb and Dummer, Dodgeball). Superhero films need to find the perfect balance. Not to beat a dead horse, but look no further than Superman: The Movie. Has it's funny/cute moments but the story was taken seriously the entire film.
Nolanite
Nolanite - 1/12/2024, 4:19 AM
@lazlodaytona - have faith in James Gunn. I honestly believe that he will nail it. Especially with his ideas he has and what he wants to accomplish. He's doing it the right way

GoTG says hi. Problem never was with the comedic tone. It's all in the good [frick]in writing and balance, and they've been dropping the ball real hard in that area.

That picture of H.E.R.B.I.E. looks like it had come out from one of the 90s animated series, I don't recall the family having some robotic assistant.

And design-wise, reminds me of Kelex from Supergirl.

Nomis929
Nomis929 - 1/12/2024, 12:59 AM
@NinnesMBC - H.E.R.B.I.E. was on on their Saturday morning show in the late '70s.

They had him as a replacement for the human torch because they couldn't use the name "Human Torch" because it was going to be use for a tv movie about him but it never happened.

he was designed by Jack kirby.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 1/12/2024, 4:58 AM
@Nomis929 - Written by Stan Lee, designed by Jack Kirby, produced by Hanna Barbera (I think?) and voiced by the GOAT of all voice actors, Frank Welker.

There was also a HERBIE in the most recent Fantastic Four series voiced by that other GOAT Tara Strong.
FlixMentallo21
FlixMentallo21 - 1/12/2024, 9:02 AM
@ObserverIO - DePatie-Freleng Enterprises produced that series (‘The New Fantastic Four’), which aired for just 13 episodes in 1978.

Tara Strong’s HERBIE appeared in 2009’s ‘The Super Hero Squad Show’.

Before that, HERBIE appeared in the 2006 cartoon series ‘Fantastic Four: World’s Greatest Heroes’, voiced by Sam Vincent.

@FlixMentallo21 - Thanks, I was mixing up series in my head. I think the '60s show was Hanna Barbera. I totally forgot about The Super Hero Squad Show and how much I loved it.
