X-Men Apocalypse
-I thought this movie was okay, just a missed opportunity for such a great villain.
Batman Killing Joke
-Second half is a great adaptation; the prologue is a bizarre Batman / Batgirl love story that seemed so unnecessary.
5) Green Lantern (2011)
I don’t hate this movie, it is just a huge missed opportunity for a hero with such a rich mythology. Hal Jordan is unlikable, and this interpretation of Parallax misses the mark completely. I’m just hoping this didn’t scare away filmmakers from making another Green Lantern film.
4) Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (2012)
I think both Ghost Rider movies are entertaining, but not very good. The second one was directed by the creators of Crank 1 and 2 and you can tell. This movie is cheesy and ridiculous, it even includes a scene of Nicolas Cage urinating fire. I am not a huge fan of the title character, but I can imagine that for anyone who is, this feels a little disrespectful.
3) Suicide Squad (2016)
My main problem with this film is the editing. A character is introduced in a 30 second snippet, music plays, another character is introduced in a 30 second snippet, music plays, etc. Some of the characters worked for me, Deadshot, Harley Quinn, and even Captain Boomerang, but they never got the time to flesh out their individual story arcs. The movie felt so rushed, I didn’t get enough character interaction to care about them. Also, the Enchantress was ridiculous and her cannon fodder henchman never felt threatening.
2) Amazing Spider-man 2 (2014)
This was the fifth Spider-man movie since 2000, and arguably the worst. I didn’t love the first Amazing Spiderman, but this sequel was a huge step backward. We get three villains, including, Paul Giamatti hamming it up as the Rhino (he only bookends the movie and is inconsequential to the plot) and Jamie Foxx as Electro, who has an absurd motive for hating Spider-man. The whole movie felt like it was setting up for sequels, which were eventually abandoned.
1) Fantastic Four (2015)
The hope that we one day see a documentary about the making of this film. A movie faced with backstage drama, obvious reshoots, and so many bad script choices. After seeing the bad fan and critic reactions, I became more interested in seeing this train wreck. Instead of it being a “Troll 2”, laughably bad movie, it was a boring mess. A movie that seems to be missing the middle act, and completely ruins Dr. Doom.
I probably missed a few movies, but these were the ones that left a bad taste in my mouth. I’m sure some people like these movies, they just didn’t work me.
